About

Unlike other '80s metal bands, Testament’s fan base hasn't diminished with the accumulation of years. In fact, when Testament dropped "Dark Roots of Earth" in 2012, the disc entered the Billboard 200 at No. 12, the highest chart position the band has seen in its career. As every ticket holder in the metal underground knows, Testament concerts are built on furious riffs and aggressive harmonies. In fact, Testament became known for their virtuosic control and melodic crunch, an approach to thrash metal that set them apart from their contemporaries, many of whom just wanted to play as fast and as loud as possible on tour. Whether Testament is playing new material in concert or classics from the '80s, be prepared for pyrotechnics, headbanging, moshing and a stage set that looks like the lurid artwork from one of their famous album covers.

The 1980s are considered the heyday of American thrash metal, and the Bay Area was a hotbed for bands that liked their riffs hard and their solos fast. No ardent fan or music critic would dispute that. Many metal bands that exploded onto the scene in the '80s and rode the wave of MTV exposure, being featured on the music network’s legendary "Headbanger’s Ball" program, fell into obscurity when '90s grunge became popular, but Testament continued to battle on. Testament's first three albums, which include "The Legacy" (1987), "The New Order (1988)" and "Practice What You Preach" (1989), are the bands most popular, beloved by metal heads around the globe. In a 30-year career that has featured 10 studio albums, four live albums, six compilations and 1.4 million records sold in the U.S., Testament continue to play fast and hard, touring all over the world with bands like Judas Priest, Anthrax, Megadeth, Exodus and Lamb of God.

by Godsmacker on 7/14/09Pops - Sauget

Growing up in the 80's, I liked Testament, always good and never sold out. After seeing them live for the first time, I like these guys a lot better now, unbelievable musicians and their new cd was so good. One of the best performances I have seen.

American Waste not a total waste

by Metalsoul on 7/14/09Beaumont Club - Kansas City

I went mainly for Testament, but their set seemed very short. That was a bummer because I've had this view that the band always really playing for their followers and would need to be drug off the stage. Instead they seemed very ready to hop on the bus and get out of there..I don't even know if it was 10:00 pm yet! That being said, they sounded great, played very well and seemed to have fun during the show.

    TESTAMENT WAS AWESOME

by vampyrvem on 7/14/09House of Blues Sunset Strip - Hollywood

I will not forget that day. they played a really good show. They played couple of songs from their new album and of course some oldies. All i know was that i was headbanging through the whole set list.

    Testament wuz awsome!!!!!

by godzilla99 on 7/14/09Beaumont Club - Kansas City

I arrived at the show as Unearth was on stage so I didnt see the entire show . Testament put on a great show. Seeing Alex back and almost the entire line up was GREAT!! Testaments new album The Formation Of Damnation is there best work yet. They are one of the few bands from the 80s that have changed there style but kept the same sound. Strong riffs and heart pounding drums with Chucks gruff vocals that could never be duplicated.

    Testament = Brutal

by Somerandomperson on 7/14/09Beaumont Club - Kansas City

Although I was mostly at the American Waste concert to watch some of my friends who were playing the gig, I stuck around and caught Testament's set. I've been to plenty of metal shows before, and this one was definitely in the upper echelon. I was a little disappointed that Testament didn't play "Practice What You Preach," but it wasn't enough to spoil the evening. I left the show with my head in pain due to the sheer force of their sound. (Awesome!)

    Insane

by 58319 on 7/13/09Rams Head Live! - Baltimore

I had never been to the Recher theatre in Towson and was unsure of how the concert was going to turn out. It was the smallest venue I had ever been too, yet one of the best concerts I've ever been to. It was like you were right there with the band. To be able to be literally 3 feet away from alex skolnik was just rediculous and the opening bands Lazerus ad and unearth were phenominal. The sound quality was great, the crowd was into it. Hands down, one of the sickest concerts I've ever seen.

    Diciples of the Watccccchhhh!!!!

    by Doubledown215 on 7/13/09The Norva - Norfolk

I've been a fan since 1990, but have never seen them live. Wow, well worth the wait! Although now I'm kicking myself for not seeing them sooner. Unearth and Lazarus AD opened for them. Both opening bands were good, but I was a lot more partial to Unearth. I was afraid Unearth would be hard to top, but as soon as Testament hit the stage I was in complete awe and it took me right back to the early 90's... I'm 34 now, but I felt like a 14 year old again. Wish I had a DVD of the performance so I could watch it over and over again... as good/if not better live as they are in the studio. Flawless, precise, intense!!!

    Testament rocked!

    by cjb1974 on 7/13/09Pops - Sauget

For those if you that have followed this band and even those that haven't. These guys hadn't put on a substantial tour in the US in years. I got to see them in St. Louis and I was blown away. If I didn't have to work I would have went to Chicago and saw them two days later. They were that good. If these guys are coming around your area go see them. Especially if you like bands like Metallica, Megdeth, Slayer, etc. These guys are right there with the legnds of metal.
