Unlike other '80s metal bands, Testament’s fan base hasn't diminished with the accumulation of years. In fact, when Testament dropped "Dark Roots of Earth" in 2012, the disc entered the Billboard 200 at No. 12, the highest chart position the band has seen in its career. As every ticket holder in the metal underground knows, Testament concerts are built on furious riffs and aggressive harmonies. In fact, Testament became known for their virtuosic control and melodic crunch, an approach to thrash metal that set them apart from their contemporaries, many of whom just wanted to play as fast and as loud as possible on tour. Whether Testament is playing new material in concert or classics from the '80s, be prepared for pyrotechnics, headbanging, moshing and a stage set that looks like the lurid artwork from one of their famous album covers.
The 1980s are considered the heyday of American thrash metal, and the Bay Area was a hotbed for bands that liked their riffs hard and their solos fast. No ardent fan or music critic would dispute that. Many metal bands that exploded onto the scene in the '80s and rode the wave of MTV exposure, being featured on the music network’s legendary "Headbanger’s Ball" program, fell into obscurity when '90s grunge became popular, but Testament continued to battle on. Testament's first three albums, which include "The Legacy" (1987), "The New Order (1988)" and "Practice What You Preach" (1989), are the bands most popular, beloved by metal heads around the globe. In a 30-year career that has featured 10 studio albums, four live albums, six compilations and 1.4 million records sold in the U.S., Testament continue to play fast and hard, touring all over the world with bands like Judas Priest, Anthrax, Megadeth, Exodus and Lamb of God.
Testament was a great show! It was great to see them touring again. They sang a great mix of songs old and new.
Great to see 4/5's of the original lineup back together. The band was spot on with their sound and performance. From Alex's intricate solos to Eric's smashing rhythms to Chuck's growling vocals, it was vintage Testament. Great mix of songs from the new album as well as their catalog.
If you haven't seen Testament, they are better now than they ever were. They sound fantastic. I'm so happy that they're back.
Excellent performance by Testament, as always, and the Starland Ballroom is a great place to see any show!
i've been going to concerts for a very long time now and let me tell you they ain't like they used to be. mostly boaring guys up there just singing thier songs and thats about it. and even worse the sound SUCKS! always mufflled and not even near loud enough. so on that day when i went to see testament i was expecting the same thing boy was i wrong.it sounded so good i nearly crapped my pants it was'nt muffled it was'nt distorted just pure clean metal just how i like it. to top it all off there is no comparison to the voice of chuck bill simply amazing. and not to for get alex the guitar god and the rest of the guys made it the best and loudest show i've been to since 1989 thats rite folks 20 years it took to have my ears ring for two days after the show. job well done thanks so much testament i'll see you at the next show i'm sure to be there.
Pioneers in the thrash scene, Testament put on one hell of a show to the metal masses that packed the Starland Ballroom. A perfect balance of new and classic material left the crowd wanting more. Looking forward to the next album and tour!
Played nearly all my favorites, loved the on-line voting for set-list. HOB is a good small venue to see a band (though drinks are EXPENSIVE!). Been a fan since New Order, wished I'd seen them sooner!
bad ass show as always! have caught them several times now, including twice before at Harpo's (the low tour and for demonic). they NEVER disappoint! if ya get the chance, GO SEE 'EM!
Great concert. Made it front and center and had a great time. Good time had by all.
Excellent concert from one of my all time favorites. Great energy from the Saturday night crowd. It's always more enjoyable when you dont have to worry about getting up for work the next morning. The sound at Harpo's was really good. TESTAMENT of course with Alex Skolnik's return to the original lineup, was what you would expect from veteran Metal Masters. Absolutely freakin awesome performance!!!!!!
As a longtime TestAmenT fan, think this was one of the best shows I've seen them do. Not only did they blend in the new tunes with the old, but they showed why they are metal legends. Great to see Alex Skolnick back in the band, and Chuck Billy healthy!!!!!!
Testament has not lost a step... I have see them 3 times now dating back to the late 80's. Chuck Billy's voice has actually gotten much better with age unlike many lead men of that era, This is a must see band. New CD is one of the best metal albums of the 2000's
