Hailing from Nigeria, singer, songwriter and producer Tems (real name Temilade Openiyi) blends West African alté and neo-soul. She grew up heavily influenced by a mix of Nigerian and Western music, having spunDestiny's Child, Lil Wayne and Aaliyah on her Walkman when growing up. But at the age of 15, she stopped listening to music all together to find her own sound and hone her craft.
The first introduction to her smooth mix of reggae, soul and R&B was 2018's 'Mr Rebel', which cemented Tems firmly as one to watch. Each single that's followed, from the alt-R&B dance groove of 'Damages' to 'Crazy Tings'' old-school reggae throwback, has shown her genre-ignoring, reinventing approach to music. Her most recent EP 'If Orange Was A Place' glides between softer emotional rawness in 'Found', and up-tempo alté fun with 'Replay's playful horn section.
As well as her own releases, she's featured on several high-profile collaborationsthat led her to be listed in Barack Obama's favourite music of 2020.She teamed up with afrobeats superstar WizKid for his sensual track 'Essence', the first Nigerian song ever to chart on the Billboard Hot 100 and earnt her a Grammy nomination. She also joined Drake for 'Fountains', which skips around piano-based afrobeats instrumentation, and Khalid and Disclosure for their electro-R&B hit 'Know Your Worth'.
Love Tems Her Performance Was Perfect! Love you Tems continue to inspire individuals!!!
Tems was everything and more ✨ sounded the same in person as she does recorded
Tems had an electric performance. The crowd’s energy was unmatched. I would love to see her perform at a bigger stage.
Tems was sick but she gave us her all! The show was extraordinary, everything progressed at a fast-pace, there was no lagging, she sang everything I wanted to hear, she danced, she flirted, she charmed. What a voice, what a talent! She is great and very respectful of her audience. I would go again and again!
Tems did an amazing performance, despite her being sick; she still sounded AMAZING!! It was a wonderful show. My only complaint was the venue. The staff didn’t do a good job of keeping everyone out of the aisle on the floor sections, so everyone who had an aisle seat, couldn’t see over the person in front of them, so everyone was standing out to the side. It was annoying. The stage should be built higher so everyone on the floor could see. Also, stopping alcoholic beverages so early in the show is ridiculous. I do not ever want to come back to this venue for these reasons. The show Tems did was amazing; the venue sucks (Agganis Arena, Boston, MA).
Tems is so AMAZING! I will be seeing her live EVERYTIME she's in Boston!!!
Words can’t explain how good the tems concert was. Her voice was so beautiful. She sounds just like the radio in person 🫶🏽🫶🏽🫶🏽🫶🏽🫶🏽
I loved that she made an effort to show up and did her best due to her circumstances. I felt the concert was rushed
What a show! Tems sound so much better live. It was such a fantastic show, I do wish the set time was longer tho
Perfect first concert for my 15 year old daughter and her 20 y.o. brother who are huge Tems fan. We drove 2 hours on a school night to catch her in Boston. Tems’ vocals were just as good as her recordings—even with the flu!—and she kept the show moving with almost no breaks. The set was beautiful and dynamic, she danced and interacted with the crowd and it showed that she really loves her craft. She was born for this yet she is so humble and kind to her fans. We will see her again! I can’t wait to see her career really take off!
Tems was amazing.. even with the flu (bless her heart).. Lekan was great as well. Great musicians and great crowd. The venue was nice and it felt like there was no bad seat in the house.
Concert was great. They just needed to be at better visual for the stands.
Concert was too expensive for it to last an hour. Next time at least have some curtain raisers perform before the main event.
Tems is talented and you can feel her love for her fans in the room. She was feeling under the weather during her show in DC, but she still showed out! She still sang her heart out and put on her best to make the show a wonderful experience for the audience. I appreciated her stage presence, audience engagement, the transitions between songs and the set was beautiful. She put on a phenomenal show!
Tems was absolutely AMAZING! She exceeded my expectations. Stage presence and connection with the audience was incredible + she is STUNNING 😍 I loved every bit of that show. Definitely a fan for life ♥️
Great crowd and supportive while she was sick. They did a lot to lift her up. But ultimately, she did a disservice and disrespected her fans by performing while sick. We got a subpar show that was very short and wildly off key because the artist refused to reschedule.
Tems was amazing, and is such a beautiful entertainer and overall has such a fun night with my boyfriend. I am short and had a good view by the stairs and still felt close enough. The venue wasn’t too crowded or hot and there wasn’t a line for the washrooms either, which was a big plus for me.
A beautiful performance by Tems! Great opening act as well. Highly recommend seeing her live! Great show!
Tems is a performer through and through, this was one of the best concerts I’ve been to. If she’s finds herself back in Toronto in the future I will definitely be buying tickets for both days.
She was great!!!! 10/10 give me 10 of her again . Tems baby
