About

TAVARES IN CONCERT:

From their R&B beginnings to their disco heyday, the iconic soul siblings of Tavares have always been known for their party-starting grooves and infectious on-stage energy. Continuing to perform with four of the original five Tavares brothers, the group is as entertaining as ever, thrilling fans with their retro stagewear, synchronized dance moves, and feel-good jams. From the romantic balladry of "A Penny for Your Thoughts" to the disco funk of "Don't Take Away the Music", Tavares always treats fans to a dynamic, nostalgic, and booty-shaking live show on their must-see tours.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

The Tavares brothers were born in Rhode Island to parents of Cape Verdean descent, and they began performing together in 1959 under the name Chubby and the Turnpikes. After signing to Capitol records in the mid-'60s and scoring several regional hits, they changed their name to Tavares and released their 1973 single "Check It Out". The track was the first in a long string of hits that included chart-toppers like "She's Gone" (1974), "Heaven Must Be Missing an Angel" (1976), and "Whodunit"(1977). In addition to touring with acts like the Jackson 5 and KC and the Sunshine Band, Tavares appeared on the soundtrack to the 1977 film Saturday Night Fever -- a gig that earned them a Grammy. They released their final studio album Words and Music in 1983, and by the mid-'90s they had become a trio following the departures of brothers Ralph and Tiny. Now a quartet after reuniting with Tiny, Tavares continues to dazzle on tour with their timeless sound, dapper style, and extensive catalog of hits.

Worst concert ever at Westbury Music Fair !!!

by Russell on 1/2/24NYCB Theatre at Westbury - Westbury

I’ve been going to Westbury Music Fair on Long Island, New York since 1981. Every time we go we have a wonderful time, and highly enjoy the show. It’s the best place to see, and experience a concert. The atmosphere, the rotating stage, and the closeness to the stage is fantastic. This “Disco Fever” show was the worst we’ve ever seen there. The lack of a live band, and extremely loud background music drowned out the performers. The lighting, light show, and profane language by the emcee was completely terrible. We, of course will continue to go to Westbury Music Fair to see shows like the “Happy Together Tour”, but would definitely not see this Disco Fever show again !!

    one and done

by alison on 1/2/24NYCB Theatre at Westbury - Westbury

i left at 9pm so I cannot say how Tavares was but the 4 groups before did not make me want to jump in my seat for sure. My expectations for disco music from the 70's was not what I heard. Oh well I tried. Parking was horrific.

    Mediocre

by Ed on 11/10/23Lynn Auditorium - Lynn

Just mediocre at best. The venue: worst that I’ve ever been at. People could sit down, people walking up and down the aisle, constantly. Sorry I convinced others to go.

Poor sound quality. Feedback for Bluenotes and Tavares

by Kendo on 11/8/23Lynn Auditorium - Lynn

For a professional venue the sound-output was disappointing and sub-par to offer a sound experience that bad. Leed vocals and band/instrument mix was poor. Announcer mic poor also. Band sounds and vocals cut in and out from soft to very loud on many occasions. The sound engineer needs to pay more attention. Just terrible, unfortunately. Evelyn Champagne King surprised me with no band behind her, and we were disappointed. But, but as luck would have it...Miss King stole the show with her energy, unwavering clear vocals. and presentation.

    Blue Notes were the best!

by PJ on 11/8/23Lynn Auditorium - Lynn

The legendary Blue Notes were the highlight of this concert. Fabulous energy! Disappointed that Evelyn Champagne King sang with taped music. She made the best of it. Didn't stay for all of Tavares - many sound problems at the beginning so they didn't sound great.

    Going back in time

by Mccards on 11/8/23Lynn Auditorium - Lynn

Tavares was the last act of the evening. I need to talk about the the prior acts. The Blue Notes were able to take me back in time with their classic hits. The sound was outstanding and the memories will last for ever. Evelyn Champagne King was extraordinary in her ability to to show at the age of 63 that she was able to do all kinds of dance moves from yesteryear Ms Kings voice was excellent with her ability to relate to the crowd. Her passion for her music is evident. Tavares was the last group and as usual brought the crowd to its feet. Having seen them before, I enjoyed their playing of their hits. I also feel in someways they have become a cover band in that they perform the hits of many other performers. Overall a great experience

by Rob on 11/8/23Lynn Auditorium - Lynn

I don’t know if it was an off night or they just do not hear themselves but it was ok at best. It sounded way off. One member was o bad and way off key. We just left. The Blue Notes were amazing.

    Girls’ Night Out

by Sheila on 11/7/23Lynn Auditorium - Lynn

Went to this concert as a Girls’ Night Out, and ended up NEVER sitting down! I danced and (shamelessly) sang almost every song! I did not realize the many songs of Tavares. It was a great night with a fan base of many nice, fun and cordial people! I was so happy with the entire experience!

    Disappointed

by Joe on 1/2/23NYCB Theatre at Westbury - Westbury

We expected, due to the event's billing, to hear much more than just 3 or 4 BeeGees' tunes.

    Not quite perfect

by Disco Padre on 1/2/23NYCB Theatre at Westbury - Westbury

The show was marvelous, with all performers doing beautifully. The only major problem with the evening was with the so-called VIP Lounge. My wife and I paid an extra $50 to be crammed into a dreadfully-run operation. Waiting on line for the ONE bartender, being advised by the lady at the counter not to bother ordering food because the ONE kitchen person couldn’t keep up, and a scarcity of seating all made us wish we’d simply utilized the regular food/bar area, which was much better run. I love this venue and have seen shows there since childhood - PLEASE clean up the VIP LOUNGE!
