About

TAVARES IN CONCERT:

From their R&B beginnings to their disco heyday, the iconic soul siblings of Tavares have always been known for their party-starting grooves and infectious on-stage energy. Continuing to perform with four of the original five Tavares brothers, the group is as entertaining as ever, thrilling fans with their retro stagewear, synchronized dance moves, and feel-good jams. From the romantic balladry of "A Penny for Your Thoughts" to the disco funk of "Don't Take Away the Music", Tavares always treats fans to a dynamic, nostalgic, and booty-shaking live show on their must-see tours.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

The Tavares brothers were born in Rhode Island to parents of Cape Verdean descent, and they began performing together in 1959 under the name Chubby and the Turnpikes. After signing to Capitol records in the mid-'60s and scoring several regional hits, they changed their name to Tavares and released their 1973 single "Check It Out". The track was the first in a long string of hits that included chart-toppers like "She's Gone" (1974), "Heaven Must Be Missing an Angel" (1976), and "Whodunit"(1977). In addition to touring with acts like the Jackson 5 and KC and the Sunshine Band, Tavares appeared on the soundtrack to the 1977 film Saturday Night Fever -- a gig that earned them a Grammy. They released their final studio album Words and Music in 1983, and by the mid-'90s they had become a trio following the departures of brothers Ralph and Tiny. Now a quartet after reuniting with Tiny, Tavares continues to dazzle on tour with their timeless sound, dapper style, and extensive catalog of hits.

    The show was good

by Joe on 3/26/24Mizner Park Amphitheater - Boca Raton

The entertainment was great. The seating only 17 rows from the stage. Once everyone stands up it’s hard to see the stage. The seats are exceptionally tiny. I’m a smaller man and I couldn’t sit comfortably for 1 minute. I left halfway through because of the discomfort. I’ll never purchase tickets again but will bring my own chair outside the amphitheater and hear it all for free. I paid a lot of money for nothing.

by Jack F on 3/26/24Mizner Park Amphitheater - Boca Raton

The venue was great at Mizner Park in Boca Raton. The evening was absolutely beautiful, especially after 2 days of rain. The artists were like we remembered, alittle older but very entertaining.. Fantastic and will go again next year..

    Tracks TOO Loud

by Jules on 3/13/24Hard Rock Live at Etess Arena - Atlantic City

The performers were all great! However, the DJ tracks were entirely too loud with crackling and was drowning out the performers. At times, the tracks were out of order and the performers had to tell the DJ that he was playing the wrong song. All in all, loved seeing the performers in this show but wouldn't spend the money to go to another of this type of show. Disappointing!

    It’s was ok.

by The fun one on 3/5/24Hard Rock Live at Etess Arena - Atlantic City

We bought these tickets and they were not inexpensive. The first 1/2 of the show was not very good and seemed to have been thrown together randomly at the last minute. The last 1/4 it did get better. But overall we were disappointed. We did like the side dance floor if you wanted to get up.

    A Few Hits/A Few Misses

by John on 3/5/24Hard Rock Live at Etess Arena - Atlantic City

The absolute best part of the night was Harold Melvin's Blue Notes FANTASTIC! Made you think you were back in the 70's. Could have enjoyed three hours of just them. Peaches and Herb were very good and did not miss a note. The women from Chic were disappointing. Were they lip syncing? The Tramps were a colossal disappointment. I was looking forward to their act the most. They did not sound good at all. They did not play "Where Were You When The Lights Went Out in NYC?" Fran Jolie was really good. The medley that she did at the end of her act was wonderful. Tavares and the final act was great. Can't say enough about the DJ. The music before the show got the crowd in the mood. Why couldn't the 8:00 show start at 8:00? No excuse for that.

    Great time

by Diane on 3/5/24Hard Rock Live at Etess Arena - Atlantic City

The entertainment was awesome. A few glitches with "canned"music, but all went well after adjustments. The Groups that were presented gave it their all, and were having a good time as well. Harold Melvin's Blue Notes, Peaches & Herb, France Jolie brought down the house (IMO). Tavares was the last group, and maybe placed nearer the beginning, as people were leaving early. They were ALL great, and took me to a better time in my life. Dancing area was a plus, to participate and to observe! Thanks for a great time.

I loved Tavares and all the other acts!!

by Kelly on 1/2/24NYCB Theatre at Westbury - Westbury

I’m a little too young to have gone to disco clubs back in the day, I was only 8 when Saturday Night Fever was released. But my mom had the soundtrack, my grade school played that soundtrack and Grease during lunchtime, and my dad and I had a Saturday morning tradition of watching American Bandstand after Scooby Doo and the other cartoons, and sometimes Soul Train after Bandstand. So Tavares, Peaches & Herb and the Trammps were part of my childhood, as were Harold Melvin, Donna Summer & The Bee Gees. I was so excited for this show as Heaven Must be missing an angel and Tavares’ version of More than a Woman are two of my all time favorite songs, to this day. They did not disappoint, they were amazing. This show made me so happy, and it was wonderful to look around and see so many happy people in the crowd reliving their younger days.

    Trini

by Trinidiva9 on 1/2/24NYCB Theatre at Westbury - Westbury

It was phenomenal, my first time . Thank goodness I changed my car radio which was broken for the last several months, upon getting my car back it was on 101, as I was driving home I loved the songs that were being played . I decided to leave it and not be station surfing . On my way to and from work I heard the name Joe cuzzy, sounded sort of familiar, loved his voice, always saying I have to google him, never got around to it . Then he announced this disco event and I said to myself I’m going , it was the best event I’ve been too since pre pandemic. And yes I’m looking forward to next year Gods will! . I loved it and couldn’t keep my butt glued to my seat ! Love the 80’s and 90’s music ! See you all Next God’s will . And CBS 101 is now my new radio station!

    Great fun

by Dan on 1/2/24NYCB Theatre at Westbury - Westbury

Great time. A little muddy sound on the pre recorded music. I guess a little too loud. Less is more sometimes.
