Tape Face Live
With his electric-shock hairstyle, striped shirt and strip of black tape across his mouth, the performer known as Tape Face can't help but leave an impression on audiences. Yet what makes this modern-day master of mime and comedy truly remarkable is the wonder, whimsy and weirdness that fill his one-of-a-kind performances.
Tape Face's appearances on America's Got Talent in 2016 introduced wider audiences to this New Zealand talent. Tape Face is the creation of Sam Wills, who began his performing career as an aspiring clown while a teenager. Drawing from his love of circus, vaudeville and prop comedy, he developed a character that took the art of mime in bold new directions. A hit at the Melbourne Comedy Festival in 2008, Wills' show The Boy with Tape on His Face marked the first major success for the stage persona that he'd later present at such events as the BBC Comedy Prom at London's Royal Albert Hall.
Shortening his name to Tape Face, Wills became one of the standout performers on season 11 of America's Got Talent, advancing to the finals without ever speaking a word. The viral success of his performances led to his first headlining appearances on the Las Vegas Strip. After two hit limited engagements, he began a multiyear residency at Harrah's Las Vegas in 2018. Visitors to the specially built House of Tape will discover a show like nothing else on the Strip.
Tape Face Background
A modern-day master of mime and comedy, Tape Face is the silent stage alter ego of New Zealand's Sam Wills. Wills' signature creation began in his youth in the town of Timaru, where he studied the art of clowning and other performance traditions. After moving to the Christchurch area and establishing himself in New Zealand's comedy scene, he combined elements of circus performing, vaudeville, and prop and shock comedy to create his unique brand of entertainment.
In 2008, Wills introduced Australian audiences to the instantly indelible title character of The Boy with Tape on His Face, a show that became a breakout at the Melbourne Comedy Festival. He also gained fans in the U.K. when he performed the character on TV shows and at live events such as the BBC Comedy Prom in London's Royal Albert Hall and the iconic Royal Variety Performance.
Tape Face's hilarious routines and feats on season 11 of America's Got Talent made Wills' creation a viral phenomenon and an international sensation. On the heels of his AGT performances and his live and TV appearances in many countries, Wills came to Las Vegas for two hit engagements at Harrah's Las Vegas in 2017. The following year, he began his residency at the specially built House of Tape.
I was a little doubtful when my son wanted to go see the show because I had never heard of him BUT boy was I shocked!!!! Hilarious and best time EVER!
Was everything I thought it would be, was the funniest show I’ve seen in 5 visits at Vegas. He was a crowd pleaser and took people from audience to participate. Enjoyed much
Family friendly show. We would highly recommend it. Very funny and creative.
My wife and I laughed so hard, we were throughly entertained the entire time!
We went in not knowing what to expect. We were so impressed with this show. It was personal and small. Everyone participated. The show was so funny and fresh. I would highly recommend this show.
I was terrified of his flashlight LOL as he went in the audience looking for people to pick (thankfully i was not chosen) lol But i thoroughly enjoyed laughing at those chosen and the thingsvthey did with tape face. There was maybe one or two skits not as funny but overall it was great !!! Tks tape face.
If you're ever fortunate enough to be in Vegas, be sure to treat yourself to tickets to The Tape Face Show. It is a masterpiece of creativity, humor, and good will. Lovingly created by Sam Wills, a.k.a Tape Face, the show is a wacky and wonderful testament to the fact the best humor doesn't have to happen at the expense of others. It can exist in the creative exploration of everyday objects and set to familiar music that has been the soundtrack of our lives. And, although his mouth is covered with tape, Tape Face is so much more than what you think of as a mime. This is no "walking against the wind" kind of show. Tape Face communicates impeccably, conjuring magic out of mundane everyday objects and hilarity out of the ether. The show relies heavily on audience participation and the participants are guided masterfully by Tape Face. They are treated with good humor and respect and the results are always hilarious. The show is wildly creative, mildly irreverant, silly, and playful in the purest sense of the word. It is truly brilliant. There aren't enough superlatives to describe it. Adding to the fun are the gloriously goofy Phyllis Vanillis the Sanitation Specialist and gentle comic and magician Tyler Reid. What a delightful world they have created! I'm no stranger to theatrical performances and it's the rare show that is good enough for me to return a second time. That honor has been reserved for shows like Hamilton or anything by directoral genius Peter Brook. The Tape Face Show? I've seen it 10 times! 10 times! And, God willing, I'll see it at least 10 more. Yes folks, it's that good! It's really that good.
Be prepared to be part of the show. But it’s worthwhile.
This is the second time seeing Tape Face and although the show was pretty much the same sketch, it’s different because the audience and how they participate is different. One of the funniest shows on the Strip. Highly recommend!!!
I Laugh so much during all the show it was amazing.
Paid $102 each for 3 VIP tickets in Section A19. Do not recommend paying this amount and go for the cheap seats anywhere else. Reason are: -A19 was to the left of the stage. Many times, I could not see the show because of people on stage blocking. Saw alot of Tape Face's Back or side profile. -If you watched AGT, you have seen the show. Not much new materials. -Did not get waitress service the entire show. All other tables were served multiple times.
Tape Face was the highlight of our Vegas trip. Went with teen boys. We got an upgraded seat free of charge. We couldn’t stop laughing. Just the right length of time. And free photo opp afterwards with him. I would highly recommend.
Excellent comedy with an incredibly talented genius! Go see it if you are in Vegas! Worth every penny!
A must see for all. Small venue with huge fun. Tape Face was absolutely a blast!! If you have the opportunity to attend, you won't be disappointed.
Funny and a lot of audience participation. Sat in VIP section and got a swag bag of tape face swag.
I haven’t laughed that hard in years! Great show and very talented! Must see!!!
Might be for some people but found it to be only slightly entertaining.
It was gut laughing fun. I teach deaf kids and would love to see them enjoy this comedy because no words or interpreter is needed. The facial expressions were enough to to convey the message. I would highly recommend it to anyone who just wants to spend an hour and half laughing. We all need that right now. The creativity is amazing.
Loved his show! We were entertained from beginning to end. I will definitely recommend his show!!
Saw him on tv. Live so much more fun glade we.made.this show. Entertaining at it finest
