Tanya Tucker on Tour

From the beginning of her career, when she was a teenager who sounded like someone way beyond her years, Tanya Tucker has been blessed with an uncommonly expressive voice. Throughout her artistic evolution over the decades, that's never changed. To this day, when you catch the country legend in concert, you're listening to a singer who can tell a story in song like nobody else. And what's country music about, if not telling stories? Whether she's delivering some of her earliest hits, like "Delta Dawn" and "Would You Lay With Me (In a Field of Stone)," digging into later material, or changing things up completely with covers of tunes by the likes of the Eagles or Bruce Springsteen, Tucker approaches each performance of every song like it's the most important one of her life — because in that moment, it is.

Tanya Tucker in Concert

Tanya Tucker has blazed a long and singular path in country music, starting in 1972 when the shockingly precocious singer, only 13 years old at the time, debuted with her hit "Delta Dawn" (before Helen Reddy ever recorded it). With a musical maturity that made her sound unquestionably adult, she churned out a string of No. 1 country hits while she was still in her teens, songs like "What's Your Mama's Name" and "Would You Lay With Me (In a Field of Stone)." And of course the hits kept coming after she moved on to actual adulthood, with Tucker maintaining a presence in the Country Top 10 all the way into the late '90s. She's always had an outlaw attitude that set her apart from the pack — for instance, she released a rock 'n' roll album in 1979, when such things were unheard of for mainstream country stars. So her appeal has lasted, existing outside the constantly changing trends of country. For instance, when she released 2019's While I'm Livin', her first album in a decade, enough people were paying attention to ensure that the record made it into the Top 10 on the Country Album charts.

The concert was awesome. I was sorta unsure if I would like but my sister loves her so I wanted to take her. Very very glad I went because I simply LOVED it and would go back again!

I grew up listening to Tanya and she performed a great concert despite recently undergoing neck surgery. I would love to see more shows at Tennessee Theater in the future it is a beautiful venue for local concerts!

  • Great Vocals but disappointing experience

by pamg on 10/1/23Tennessee Theatre - KnoxvilleRating: 3 out of 5

Tanya came out about 30 minutes late due to health issues. (I'm okay with that and glad she didn't cancel as she indicated she thought about). Her vocals were great and I really enjoyed her singing. Unfortunately, after about an hour, people in the front rows presented albums and papers to sign and she signed autographs again and again and again. While those of us not in the front row... waited and waited to hear more singing. After much time... we just left the concert. I didn't pay to watch her sign autographs. Disappointing and kinda rude in my opinion. a couple autographs..... ok. but was way too much. Didn't get to hear my favorite... Delta Dawn.

We loved the show. Despite recent surgery, she put on a great show.

  • Sad and Frustrated

    by P. J. on 10/1/23Tennessee Theatre - KnoxvilleRating: 3 out of 5

Waiting an hour before she came out. We understand she felt bad.Tanya sounded great on the few songs she sang. What actually frustrated us was her taking time to sign things when she could be singing. Sad we didn’t hear more songs.

  • Short

by It was a little short but worth the wait on 10/1/23Tennessee Theatre - KnoxvilleRating: 5 out of 5

There was a long wait between warm up singer and Tanya

  • Disgusted

by Fan on 10/1/23Tennessee Theatre - KnoxvilleRating: 2 out of 5

Waited 58 minutes between her appearance and prior performance with no instrument/setup change. Inconsiderate and very unprofessional to keep fans waiting so long.

  • A historic and emotional moment

by rg on 10/1/23Tennessee Theatre - KnoxvilleRating: 5 out of 5

Tanya even making it to the stage was clearly a painful (due to recent neck surgery) effort powered by her desire to perform for her fans. She struggled, but kept that part a bit funny and very successfully integrated jokes about her physical pain with an incredible display of talent that, in my opinion, dwarfed all those number one hits in that one show on that one memorable night at the Tennessee Theatre. The world-changing singers and songwriters are leaving this world quickly. Don't miss a show.

  • Great

The Show was good & Fun. Hope Tanya gets to feeling Better 🙏

  • Mixed bag!!!

by Lulu on 10/1/23Tennessee Theatre - KnoxvilleRating: 4 out of 5

Excellent venue. Opening act was local talent, all songs sounded similar, played for 30 minute. Waiting 55 minutes for Tanya to start, no explanation during this time and audience became impatient. Once Tanya started her portion of the program she was terrific, good mix old old and new music but could not always understand her comments made during performance.

  • Great

by Billy j smith on 10/1/23Tennessee Theatre - KnoxvilleRating: 5 out of 5

Great concert.people dont need to stand up in front of other people for so long

  • We!

by DeeD on 10/1/23Tennessee Theatre - KnoxvilleRating: 5 out of 5

To start, the opening artist, Trisha Gene Bradley was AMAZING! Tanya sang her heart out for us and she sang one of my favorites, Can’t Run From Yourself. Of course she ended the show with the great Delta Dawn. She just had surgery and yet still showed up. The only downside was the people who stood in front of everyone at the stage the whole time blocking other peoples view. And she came on WAY late.

  • I didn't go ..

by Jar on 10/1/23Tennessee Theatre - KnoxvilleRating: 1 out of 5

Didn't go Didn't want to go only reason I bought the tickets is for a friend and she bailed so

  • Tanya is LATE

by Jody on 10/1/23Tennessee Theatre - KnoxvilleRating: 1 out of 5

Showtime was 7:30. Warmup started on time, played till 8:00. At 8:45 we left with no sign of Tanya. Don’t know when she started. Don’t care at this point. Love the Tennessee Theatre and this is unusual for the artists we see. The audience in our vicinity was becoming annoyed.Last time we saw this type of delay was a LONG TIME AGO.

  • A real trooper

by Bob on 10/1/23Tennessee Theatre - KnoxvilleRating: 5 out of 5

Tanya Tucker was definitely not feeling well that night, but instead of canceling or cutting the show short, she gave her all and interacted freely and warmly with her enthusiastic audience.
