Tanya Tucker on Tour

From the beginning of her career, when she was a teenager who sounded like someone way beyond her years, Tanya Tucker has been blessed with an uncommonly expressive voice. Throughout her artistic evolution over the decades, that's never changed. To this day, when you catch the country legend in concert, you're listening to a singer who can tell a story in song like nobody else. And what's country music about, if not telling stories? Whether she's delivering some of her earliest hits, like "Delta Dawn" and "Would You Lay With Me (In a Field of Stone)," digging into later material, or changing things up completely with covers of tunes by the likes of the Eagles or Bruce Springsteen, Tucker approaches each performance of every song like it's the most important one of her life — because in that moment, it is.

Tanya Tucker in Concert

Tanya Tucker has blazed a long and singular path in country music, starting in 1972 when the shockingly precocious singer, only 13 years old at the time, debuted with her hit "Delta Dawn" (before Helen Reddy ever recorded it). With a musical maturity that made her sound unquestionably adult, she churned out a string of No. 1 country hits while she was still in her teens, songs like "What's Your Mama's Name" and "Would You Lay With Me (In a Field of Stone)." And of course the hits kept coming after she moved on to actual adulthood, with Tucker maintaining a presence in the Country Top 10 all the way into the late '90s. She's always had an outlaw attitude that set her apart from the pack — for instance, she released a rock 'n' roll album in 1979, when such things were unheard of for mainstream country stars. So her appeal has lasted, existing outside the constantly changing trends of country. For instance, when she released 2019's While I'm Livin', her first album in a decade, enough people were paying attention to ensure that the record made it into the Top 10 on the Country Album charts.

I had NO IDEA that Tanya was opening for Jamey Johnson and Cody Jinks tonight! We got there LATE not knowing another act was opening, heard her unmistakable voice and rushed in to hear her last two songs My Flowers Now and Delta Dawn. She looks better than she has in years and sounded well, just like Tanya Damn Tucker! She should have been the big name on the marquee. Jinks was about what i expected but i was let down in a huge way by JJ. He sang his six biggest songs then ran a streak of nine covers and although unique, not as good in any way as the original artist.

The new Brown County Music center was really a Great place to see a music production and Tanya Tucker was the one to see. She was everything we hoped for plus some, sang a lot of oldies plus new songs that we really like. Easy access in and out, very friendly host and just a Great night of good, clean entertainment, will definitely be back.

  • Brown County Music Center

The venue is very nice, acoustics are great. Food and drinks are very expensive. There is an 8" curb that is very difficult for elderly/handicapped people or anyone with knee/hip issues to navigate (there was not handicapped parking left when we arrived 10 minutes before doors opened). Everyone was friendly and helpful. Great job getting everyone out of the lot after the show - very well organized.

Fun night and the acoustics sounded wonderful as did Tanya Tucker. Only problem is getting people back out to their cars without being run over.

We did the vip tickets so we were part of the meet and greet. It would have been wonderful if we had a bit more time to interact with Tanya during that time but I think it was a bit of an off day for her before the show. She told us she had a hair malfunction to which I said “we’ll wait”. She definitely had a sense of humor. As for the show itself she was stellar! Perfect stage presence and audience interaction. She sounded perfect!! I will go see her again anytime, and will do the meet and greet again if given the chance. Overall an A+!!

Bring more older stars like Tanya Tucker, absolutely the best performance. Bring her back!!! Love the older stars who no longer get the recognition they deserve. T graham brown, TG Sheppard, Exile, Barbara Mandrell EARL THOMAS CONLEY and so on.

  • Tanya Tucker was amazing!

    by Cowgirloctober13 on 8/27/18Winston-Salem Fairgrounds - Winston-SalemRating: 5 out of 5

Tanya Tucker played for her audience. She was friendly, and stayed after the concert to sign items, a practice long gone from modern country music. With a timeless voice, the classy classic country music artist sang her hits, and brought the crowd to its feet more than once. On the last song, her hit song Delta Dawn, she asked the audience to sing a chorus, which they did, loudly. Thoroughly enjoyed the concert!
