The dancers were fantastic ! I haven't been to this show in 27 years, I loved it.
The dancers were cute, the older girls were skilled. Where it fell apart is the directing. Who in their right mind would put a rat trap in the ballet and take out a epic sword fight of the rat king and the nutcracker. The original story is timeless for a reason and should not have been changed! I felt bad for the dancers who worked so hard; the story should have been kept to it's original glory!
I took my daughter to this event and she loved it! We both enjoyed the talent of the dancers. The overall experience was wonderful!
This was an excellent show. We brought our granddaughter to the show. There was beautiful music, dancing, and some comedy. She loved it. My husband and I enjoyed it immensely.
I took my daughter and her friend and they both thought it was just a wonderful performance!! The especially loved the special affects and the choreography!! What an amazing job you all did, it was the best we have seen!!
While I have seen many of the performances put on by Syracuse City Ballet, and have the utmost respect for Ms. Rathbun and her students, I do have to say I was mildly disappointed with this particular event. The staging was good, but it is hard to see the Nutcracker without a live orchestra. From a dance perspective there were more negatives than positives. Cleverly training a live dog to be onstage, and using great imagery, can only partly cover poor dancing. The male leads were forgettable at best. The Dew Drop Fairy/Snow Queen was very engaging, nice technique, and beautiful stage presence. The Sugar Plum Fairy was a strong female as well, but I definitely feel like there was something lacking in her performance this particular evening. The missed lifts and poorly executed turns did not help. On a bright note, Claire Rathbun who danced the Marzipan Fairy is absolutely a talent. She is engaging, strong, and I probably enjoyed watching her dance as much as the "pros", definitely more so than watching the men. Overall I think the students of Upstate Ballet should be proud of their work, and I do think it was a nice performance. However, if I am going to spend over $100 for two tickets, I do demand better dancers than what I was given, especially in the professional roles.
Well done performance!!! My entire family loved the show!! I highly recommend this Nutcracker Performance be seen by all ages.
From the little children to the professional dancers, everyone performed remarkably well and brought their own contribution to the show. I enjoyed the beginning scene with the ouverture, the setting as simple but charming and the dancing was beautiful.
My daughter (age 5) and I had a magical time at the show!! I loved watching her eyes light up watching the ballarinas!
My six years old daughter enjoyed the play a lot..
This is my family's second visit to the Children's Nutcracker and I must say that it never ceases to tantalize visually and audibly .
Good show for the season. My 2 Children 5 and 3 loved it! The only negative point: no live music.
I brought my 15 year old daughter We just sat there in amazement. But not surprised by Mrs. Rathbun, she always puts on a great show!!!! My daughter took ballet from Mrs. Rathbun for 9 years. We were so proud of everyone who participated in the show.BRAVO!!!!!
This is the 2nd time I've taken my daughter and grandaughter to see this production. My grandaughter is physically challenged; in her 2nd year of dance. Neither one could take their eyes off the stage. It was, as usual, awesome
This Children's Nutcracker can be enjoyed by young and mature audiences. My four year old commented during the show, "this show is excellent!" It also motivates young ballerines to dream big!
Awsome family event. Can't wait for next year. Great time spent with my children.
Very professionally done. Children dancers were very well trained. Older dancers were superb. Length of performance is perfect for the little kids in the audience and the narrative helped them understand the story. Costumes and sets very professional. Only thing that would have made it better would have been a live orchestra. I especially like the pricing structure with smaller prices for children. All children's events should do this -- often the $50 to $100 a ticket events would be nice for kids but not affordable for a family or for anyone on a fixed income. Thanks so much to this delightful group for doing this again. I look forward to attending for years to come.
