It was amazing!!! So great!! Blew me and my family away!
Overall Production was lovely and the talented, young ballerinas danced beautifully. It was an ideal first introduction to ballet, My 4 year old dressed in costume and could not wait to see the dance of the sugar plum fairy. Although I would have preferred a live orchestra, I understand the production was working on a shoe string budget after the troupe lost costumes and props due to a fire earlier this year. I was not expecting the narration. It was a little odd but it helped my daughter follow the story and remain engaged.
The costumes and sets were so beautiful. My granddaughter is 6 and she was totally engrossed. Very impressive production with dancers of all ages.
What a wonderful performance! So beautiful! Truly an amazing job!
A wonderful performance in a beautiful, well managed and modern theater! Perfect for taking kids (narration, no orchestra and little noise).
Over all a job well done. They had a little different spin on the traditional story (Fritz also received a nutcracker and he was part of Clara's dream), so some who prefer to see the traditional show may not care for it as well. I also thought there was going to be an orchestra at this performance and there was not, so I was a little disappointed to hear taped music, but it did not detract from the performance. I thought the back drops were well done. The sparkly lights on the tree made it look 3 dimensional and the starry sky on the trip to the land of sweets made you feel like they were really flying through the air. The dances of the Sugar Plum Fairy and the prince felt a little long, but they did a nice job. The movement on and off the stage of the different members of the Land of Sweets and transition back to the house when Clara awoke was enchanting. Definitely a show to be enjoyed by the family,
I have seen The Nutcracker twice before, and I was not a fan. I took my mom for her birthday because and loves it. This time I was not let down. The costumes were beautiful, we had perfect seats. The dancing was perfect. The whole show was just fantastic. I would definitely recommend this show.
I took my 2 granddaughters, ages 10 and 13, and their other Grandmother on Friday, Dec.6, 2013. None of them had ever seen The Nutcracker before and they loved it. While reading the program, each of the girls found that they both went to school with someone from the cast of very talented dancers. The 10 year-old went to school with "Clara"! What a thrill that was for them. The show was awesome and such wonderful talent. We are blessed in Syracuse, and especially for Kathleen Rathburn.
beautifully put together, amazing choreography and amazing talent! all in all spectacular show! i would definitely attend this ballet again. :)
As usual, this show was excellent. I highly recommend for the whole family!
The pit orchestra (CNY musical associates) made all the difference. Any decent production of the Nutcracker needs live music!
I'd never seen a Nutcracker performance before and I was thoroughly entertained!
Professionals were as expected. Local "talent" left much to be desired. Take a train to NYC and see a real show instead. Only one local dancer should have been on stage for the price of the ticket.
This was definitely a good choice as part of my 3 sons Christmas present. They are over 11 yrs old and enjoyed the Theatre very much, enjoyed The Nutcracker very much as well. I was very happy with the performance: witty, theatrical, pretty etc..had a wide variety of drama to it.
Seats were good except for the ushers...being in the back row near the door, they were constantly up & down, and since they chose to sit in front of us it became annoying at times. View was fairly decent considering we had chosen seats for a somewhat reasonable price. I would not recommend bringing very small children (under 4-5), as that can also be a distraction. However, children over 5 will enjoy...especially enchanting to a young girl who dreams of being a ballerina. The performance was beautiful.
Fabulous Nutcracker!!! One if the best productions I've been to. Great dancing and terrific orchestra! Two thumbs up'!!!
Went with my 16 year old daughter. We usually see The Nutcracker performed by the North Carolina Ballet or the Moscow Ballet. Thought we'd give Syracuse City Ballet a try. Didn't realize that the majority of the cast would be students. It also seemed the majority of the audience was family members of the cast. It was a nice performance but definitely not worth the $60 a seat that I paid for it. We were very excited to have such good seats, but disappointed that it was more like a school performance, for the most part, than a professional company.
This is our third year coming to see this. We were surprisingly dissapointed as it wasnt as good as in the past. The production wasnt nearly as grand. The Syracuse Symphony Orchestra was sorely missed as watching this without live music just isnt the same. Narrator wasnt very dynamic. This production appeared to be geared more towards younger children. We have always enjoyed this show but we have decided not to come next year unless the quality of the production significantly improves and there is a live symphony.
I went with my mom to see the Nutcracker and it was all that I hoped it would be. Ive been in the Nutcracker before but I finally got to see it.
My 5 year old granddaughter and I relished every minute of this family friendly performance. The dancing, sets, and special effects -- not to mention the "real" dog that joined the show -- made it very memorable. We plan to see it next year!
