The 'Burbs have not missed a beat and sound more polished than ever. The new bass and lead guitar players are certainly great musicians and fit well into the new ensemble. I liked Michael coming out and playing on "Girlfriend". Can someone comment on why he no longer wants to participate on a regular basis, he sure had the energy and enthusiasm? The only disappointment ( and that is a strong word) was the shortened version of "Drinking with an Angel". Perhaps it was time constraints at the Zoo.

    The Suburbs

by Bafissa on 7/18/11Minnesota Zoo Amphitheater - Apple Valley

The weather cooperated and the "Burbs" rocked. I'm so glad Beej was able to do "Angel", but sorry he wasn't allowed to climb the rafters Wish we would've had better seats and that I'd been a little more sober.

Great to hear the Suburbs tunes

by sail2fast on 7/18/11Minnesota Zoo Amphitheater - Apple Valley

It was great to hear the Suburbs tunes. Chan held the show together as Beeg was not in shape to perform.

    Suburbs needs new lead singer

by RedRooster777 on 7/18/11Minnesota Zoo Amphitheater - Apple Valley

Granted $184 was a little steep to pay for a local band but 15 years ago I remember watching them play at Grand Ol Days in St. Paul and having the best time of my life with my best college friends. So when the opportunity came up for us to see them play live and at the beautiful Zoo zenue we decided what the heck. My friends drove in from Chicago and we went and were EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED!!!! The band game on and the lead singer was stoned. He could barely make it on stage! The rest of the group tried to cover for him but he would stop singing in the middle of songs and then at one point layed his guitar on the ground so it could "feel the grass". After 20 minutes of watching this pathetic, zoned out attempt of performing, we left this excuse of a concert. People were taking bets all around us as to when he was going to fall and pass out on stage. I feel cheated of my money and my time. Shame on you Suburbs-you lost many fans.

    Time to Leave Beej Behind

by McMoon on 7/18/11Minnesota Zoo Amphitheater - Apple Valley

It was fun to hear all the old songs again and Chan knows how to lead a band and run a show. Beej, however, seemed lost most of the evening and I was surprised he was able to complete the set. It sounded like the sound guys finally turned teh volume down on his guitar, which helped, but he was still more of a distraction as he stumbled around stage.

Suburbs found the "Magic "of old!!!!

by stash3 on 7/17/11Minnesota Zoo Amphitheater - Apple Valley

I have seen the Suburbs over 15 times and this show has to rank in the top 5 of all shows. They did all the usual great songs but also played some songs that you usually dont hear live very much. Drinking with an Angel gave me goosebumps.

    Suburbs still have uique sound

by happyclam52 on 7/17/11Minnesota Zoo Amphitheater - Apple Valley

The Suburbs, in this latest incarnation were in great form at he zoo. The arrangements were tight, the playing crisp, very enjoyable. Easy to remember what all the fuss was about. this was for me their most musically fulfilling show of late. The Summit party (2006) was good, and Bruce Allen tribute was fun, but this was flat out great. Bravo!

    Nostalgic good time

by pdphotography on 7/17/11Minnesota Zoo Amphitheater - Apple Valley

I love The Suburbs! I see them every time they play in Minneapolis. It's just hard to watch Beej on stage. I miss his energy. I'm not sure what is wrong with him, just hope he's getting help and support from his friends and family. I will continue to support The Suburbs whenever they play and will purchase any new music that comes out. Thanks guys!

    Suburbs every night!

by jaakpotts on 7/17/11Minnesota Zoo Amphitheater - Apple Valley

Watching the Suburbs at the Minnesota Zoo was incredible! It was a small club feel that was very exciting-so close to the band and the energy of the crowd was amazing. The only downside was how far you have to walk to get to the amphitheater. While it was fun to walk through the zoo and hear some of the animals (the tiger was singing along), it is a long walk. Otherwise it was the best show I've been to and I would go back every night to hear them play.

    Wonderful Show!

by MapleMomma on 11/26/10First Avenue - Minneapolis

They always please the crowd. This band has a lot of history with the Twin Cities. The songs sounded great and true to their published music. A nice crowd, gone are the days of moshing and BJ flopping off the stage onto the adoring fans below. It was even better than I remember, although BJ was little out of it. Chan was predictably awesome! Everyone rocked! A special memory of Bruce Allen, he is missed. That being said, his replacements did a great job. Buswell managed another great porduction. Well done to all!

    Same as it always was...

by Darwinskid on 11/22/10First Avenue - Minneapolis

While the roads coated with ice outside, it was warm with music we danced to on the inside. The Suicide Commandos and The Suburbs played to a crowd anxious to look into each others eyes and remember a moment or more from times past. The bands played enjoyment and virtuosity. They played like they meant it, like they wanted to be there. It was a night out with the 'Burbs, with friends, with drinks, goodwill and the music we all came to feel, touch, hear and see.

Just keep playing! It's great for so many reasons.

by MoreSuburbs on 11/22/10First Avenue - Minneapolis

I was there both nights. Loved it. As hard hitting as ever. The best thing is that The Suburb's music is fantastic. Dynamic, unique, masterfully arranged, a heavy rhythm punch to your musical solar plexus. But it's so good, you'll take another punch, and another. The next best thing is: they are the the most fun to watch. No rival in this area. They are genuine and super talented. Expert entertainers and a Minneapolis icon. Love you guys. Yes, we miss Bruce, but please, play on! On First Avenue: Great sound and atmosphere, but if you are not at least 6ft tall you may not see much of the show- just too many bad sight lines. Also, WAY too many rude, pushy and aggressive @holes. They can really ruin a good time.

    Suburbs Still Have It!

by Anonymous on 11/22/10First Avenue - Minneapolis

The old guys still have it! I was thrown back 25+ years, and am paying for it today. Very stiff and sore from dancing in 'the pit"! So happy to see that Beej was there. Saw them a few years back at Summit Fest. No Beej...wasn't the same! Chan still sounds amazing and is so very classy, always in his suit coat. Hugo--Awesome! As always, the best show in town is the Burbs at First Ave! BTW...Suidice Commando's rocked too!

    Suicide Commandos stole the show

    by mig66 on 11/22/10First Avenue - Minneapolis

I've seen the Suburbs in the old days, and a couple years ago at First Ave, but they didn't give me the impression that they wanted to be there this time. I hadn't seen the Suicide Commandos before, but I will again if they do another show.

    Commandos and the Suburbs

by EPRocker on 11/21/10First Avenue - Minneapolis

Great to see the Commandos and Burbs back together again - both we're awesome. Had as much fun as I did 25 years ago at the Cabooze and 1st Ave!
