About

Styx have endured for over five decades while staying true to their progressive rock sound and theatrical live show. Since releasing their self-titled debut in 1972, Styx have sold over 54 million records worldwide between 17 studio albums, 16 compilations and nine live recordings. Notably, the band released four consecutive RIAA-certified multi-platinum albums between 1977’s The Grand Illusion, 1978’s Pieces of Eight, 1979’s Cornerstone and 1981’s Paradise Theatre, the last of which became their first to top the Billboard 200. Across their career, Styx earned eight Top 10 singles on the Hot 100, including the chart-topping “Babe” as well as “Come Sail Away” “Mr. Roboto” and their 1990 comeback single “Show Me the Way.” Despite several hiatuses and lineup changes, Styx have become one of rock’s most consistent touring acts, hosting nearly 100 live shows every year for over two decades and netting career-best earnings on massive co-headlining tours with REO Speedwagon, Foreigner and Def Leppard. In 2021, Styx released their seventeenth studio album, Crash of the Crown.

  • Styx is still awesome!!

by Mardot on 5/5/11Assembly Hall - ChampaignRating: 5 out of 5

For being around before I was born, Styx is still rockin. I first fell in love with Styx when I was just nine years old. This is the second time seeing them in two years. They did not disappoint. They performed a wide range of their great songs. They are so much fun to watch. Lawrence is an amazing keyboardist, a great singer and so much fun. Tommy, JY and Ricky have a lot of tricks up their sleeves. There's no better drummer than Todd. It was great to see Chuck make an appearance. The band has been through a lot of changes but one thing remains constant: they put on a great show.

A great show. I last saw Styx many years ago when I was in college. They still rock!

  • Styx will always Rock!

by Freud on 5/5/11Assembly Hall - ChampaignRating: 5 out of 5

This concert was amazing!!! I took my girlfriend and we had such a great time, I highly recommend seeing them whenever and wherever. We are students at the University of Illinois and the concert made us feel that we lived through the 70's and 80's with our favorite band!

  • Great Band - Lousy Venue

by GreyCosmicRocker on 5/2/11Ocala Entertainment Complex - OcalaRating: 4 out of 5

A classic example of lousy communication. The Styx website and Ticketmaster both listed this event for 6:00 pm. Showed up at the venue before 5:30 and the will call door didn't open un til 5:50. Nothing like standing around in the Florida sun on the pavement! Finally got inside, only to be listening to sound check for Monster, who we found out, was the unlisted opening act for the show. We were further informed that Styx would not be on stage until 9:00 (Three hours after the listed time). Styx finally took the stage just before 10:00. (4 hours after listed time). They performed a long set, sounded great when they weren't competing with the sub-woofers from the disco inside the same complex. It was annoying enough that TommyShaw was getting rather pissed at the competition. Certainly detracted from the show. Good to know the band can still nail the songs they're known for, but the fans and the band deserve better from OEC management.

The opening band "Monster" ROCKED!!!!! Styx was amazing. It was awesome that they came back out and played a couple more songs. I had a blast!!!!

  • Late start!

by Altoonz on 5/2/11Ocala Entertainment Complex - OcalaRating: 4 out of 5

The music was awesome!! Styx rocked the house.. after they finally started to play! The tickets said concert starts at 6pm... we didn't get in the doors until after 7.. then another half hour or so before the opening act.. Monster played. They rocked and then the radio station promoting the concert came in stage and yapped... THEN Styx came out to play.. well after 9pm!!

  • Styx was purely AMAZING

by CrystalBakugou on 5/1/11Ocala Entertainment Complex - OcalaRating: 5 out of 5

So, this was my first Styx concert (i'm younger then the general audience they bring in), and it was PHENOMENAL! They ROCKED the place down to its core! It was my first Styx concert, but definitely not my last!

  • Styx at Ocala Entertainment Complex

by Anonymous on 5/1/11Ocala Entertainment Complex - OcalaRating: 1 out of 5

Styx was as always Fantastic! They rocked the crowd from the first song all the way to the last! The audience had a blast! The major blow to this otherwise great evening was the fact that the bar nextdoor had their music deafening and I found it offensive that this complex would allow all that blaring noise when they have a great band such as STYX performing there! I spoke with one of the employees at OEC and he was about as concerned as a gnat!I personally will never attend a concert at this venue because of the extreme annoyance it caused. This was by far the worst venue I have attended and I hope that this band will never have to be subjected to that insult and ignorance again!

  • As Usual

    by Paulie45 on 5/1/11Ocala Entertainment Complex - OcalaRating: 5 out of 5

ALWAYS love STYX! Mr Rock N Roll -- Tommy Shaw was his usual rocker-self ! Ricky put his bass into the light can at one point --ouch! And I thought the bird that flew into the venue and landed on the light bar was pretty different. Ocala Entertainment Complex was awesome.

  • Styx was awesome

by Maximpakt on 5/1/11Ocala Entertainment Complex - OcalaRating: 5 out of 5

Going in I liked a few of thier songs but thought a lot of thier stuff was to mellow to make for a good live show, I was so wrong. They take even the mellow stuff and rock it live with 3 blazing guitars. This show was absolutely amazing.

  • Styx was unforgettable

by cabanagreg on 5/1/11Ocala Entertainment Complex - OcalaRating: 3 out of 5

Styx was very good as usual but the venue Ocala Entertainment Complex was like going to a live cattle auction awful venue would not go back there ever again no matter who is in concert !!!!!

  • Styx is awesome!

    by Scott1013 on 5/1/11Ocala Entertainment Complex - OcalaRating: 5 out of 5

This concert was one of a kind. They involved the audience through the whole concert. Had a little glitch with a club next door but Tommy Shaw took care of that by cranking up the volume. I mean he cranked it up~!!! There was no turning back after that. Wished they had more time. There was so many more songs to hear. They are classic.

  • Styx

by Nanikki on 5/1/11Ocala Entertainment Complex - OcalaRating: 4 out of 5

The show was amazing as expected. It is the 2nd time I have seen them.. First time was in Charlotte ,N.C. some years back for New Years Eve- great then too. Monster rocked too- they are great. I have been watching them play locally around Gainesville. They told me about the Styx show or I wouldn't have even known about it. Great night!! I love seeing great music!!

  • Styx - worth seeing

    by Kyatty on 4/14/11Beltarra - IN - FlorenceRating: 4 out of 5

As a child of the 70's, I grew up hearing Styx at home and on the radio. Now my tastes run more toward modern rock and I was not thrilled about going to the concert. I now stand corrected. Styx put on a great show. Their voices and harmonies were impeccable and they opened the show with my fave Styx song. I have no complaints regarding the quality of the music. I do have a few other complaints: 1) the show as too short - for $75 you should get more than 1.5 hrs of music; 2) Styx did not play their only #1 U.S. hit - what's up with that?; 3) a casino like Beltarra should offer the ability to pay for drinks with a credit card - ridiculous. Overall, it was a fun, if pricey evening. It's fun to see the bands you grew up with and I'm glad I went. Oh yeah ... Tommy Shaw has buns of steel. That was fun to watch.

  • Styx gets better with age!

by Stever0 on 4/12/11Belterra Casino Resort and Spa - FlorenceRating: 5 out of 5

We attended the Styx concert at Belterra two years ago and loved it. This last concert was even better!!! There were some diffferent songs (I'm O.K.) as well as the favorites. Going for the full hour and a half without an intermission kept the audience involved and, in fact, the energy accelerated. All and all a wonderful evening and we would see Styx again in a heartbeat. We thought there was more guitar harmony and creativity with this last performance. Lawrence Gowan was terrific as usual and Ricky Phillips has obviously found a new presence. Todd, J.Y., and Tommy were solid as a rock. We missed Chucky.

  • Styx was amazing & great concert to attend!

by Perry74 on 4/12/11Belterra Casino Resort and Spa - FlorenceRating: 5 out of 5

I have not been to a concert in many years. Styx was simply amazing, they are so entertaining on the stage and they sound so good! I would highly recommend this concert to a friend and would attend another concert to see them again.

I am not really a rock fan, I go with my finance', but this was an amazing concert. I enjoyed every minute of it. As musicians alone these men were so talented and they had great voices on top of it. I would definately recommend this band.

  • by Anonymous on 4/11/11Belterra Casino Resort and Spa - FlorenceRating: 3 out of 5

The music was good, but, they left alot of classic hits off their playlist. They played about 1hr 15 mins, and a Beatles song in the encore set. No opening act. Crowd comments were the same from everyone as we were leaving. Small venue and not enough from the band. Other acts there are 1:45 to 2hrs.

  • Styx took me back to 1977

by Roscoe2u on 4/11/11Belterra Casino Resort and Spa - FlorenceRating: 5 out of 5

I had not seen Styx since the early 80's and when I saw they were going to be near us, I bought tickets for my wife and myself. The Belterra Casino in Florence, IN is an amazing place. The concert venue holds about 1,500 so every seat is a good one. The sound system quality was good and everyone had a good view of the stage. The band played their butts off and sounded awesome. The concert lasted about 1 hour and 40 minutes with a total of about 15 songs played. I would highly recommend seeing this tour if you have the chance.

  • Styx was good to see after all thses years.

by Rokthahaus on 4/11/11Belterra Casino Resort and Spa - FlorenceRating: 3 out of 5

I thought the show was good. Just good. I loved the venue, excellent!! I just wish Styx would have played more of their hits from the old days. I loved the Paradise Theatre album & i wish they would have done more from that particular one. Anywho, it was good to see the band live anyway! Keep up the good work!!! Next time, if there is a next time, i'd love to see them play, only if they do more rockin hits. i.e. Mr. Roboto, Renegade, The Best of Times, etc. They only played for like an hour & a 1/2, & for my $$$, (about $80!!), they could have done more.
