About

Styx have endured for over five decades while staying true to their progressive rock sound and theatrical live show. Since releasing their self-titled debut in 1972, Styx have sold over 54 million records worldwide between 17 studio albums, 16 compilations and nine live recordings. Notably, the band released four consecutive RIAA-certified multi-platinum albums between 1977’s The Grand Illusion, 1978’s Pieces of Eight, 1979’s Cornerstone and 1981’s Paradise Theatre, the last of which became their first to top the Billboard 200. Across their career, Styx earned eight Top 10 singles on the Hot 100, including the chart-topping “Babe” as well as “Come Sail Away” “Mr. Roboto” and their 1990 comeback single “Show Me the Way.” Despite several hiatuses and lineup changes, Styx have become one of rock’s most consistent touring acts, hosting nearly 100 live shows every year for over two decades and netting career-best earnings on massive co-headlining tours with REO Speedwagon, Foreigner and Def Leppard. In 2021, Styx released their seventeenth studio album, Crash of the Crown.

    REO, Styx, 38 Special

by snakeskincowboy on 7/12/09Save Mart Center - Fresno

38 Special was real good; sounded just like I remembered them in the early years, but not showman. REO was excellent, the lead guitarist is incredable. When Styx hits the stage, the party is just starting....Unbelievable performance. But when all three bands got on the stage at once, the roof came down. I highly recommend rocking out with any of the three band, but you can't beat seeing them all together.

    REO still got it !!

by fghammer on 7/12/09NOKIA Theatre LA LIVE - Los Angeles

REO really "Can't Stop Rockin'" I have been listening to this band since I was 10 years old and they haven't lost a thing. They Rock!! Kevin has the most amazing voice I have ever heard and everybody was on their feet and they performed which tells you a lot. They sang all classics and I was hoping tohear a least a couple of the newer songs but thats OK as long as I hear them perform. Keep Pushin'

REO, Styx & 38 Special was awesome!!!

by plumsy on 7/12/09Save Mart Center - Fresno

It was an awesome night for me and my daughter. One of the best Mother's Day gifts I could have received from her. To have all three acts performing was pretty spectacular. It was like getting to see 3 concerts in one night. If they ever perform near us again we would definitely be there. We hope to see them again soon.

    38sp, REO, Styx...what a night!!!

by ONLYROCK4ME on 7/12/09NOKIA Theatre LA LIVE - Los Angeles

We thoroughly enjoyed the 4 hour long show. All three bands gave it up and they all were just great! 38sp opened to a half empty theatre, but by the end of their set, the entire place was rockin. REO was really tight and their sound was excellent. Styx also sounded great, although the mixing was a bit off at times. I never missed Dennis DeYoung, since the new guy was simply awesome; he had great energy and outstanding vocals. I was surprised that the place was not sold out, but those who stayed home missed a great show. I hope that all three bands come back to LA, since they all put on a great show!!! 70s- 80s rock bands do it best.

    styx,reo and 38 special

by none1000 on 7/12/09Save Mart Center - Fresno

38 special was the best band that evening. I have seen STYX numerous times and this was by far the worst. Styx is one of my favorite bands but they barely played an hour of their stuff. The best show of theirs I seen was when Styx and REO played the Tachi Palace in Lemoore a couple of years ago. I was expecting the same.

Styx & REO Still Rockin' it!

by HannaSN on 7/12/09NOKIA Theatre LA LIVE - Los Angeles

Awesome, non-stop energy, taking you way back when. Had the audience totally involved - worth every penny - and thank you for offering very reasonably priced tix at only $13.50 each! I couldn't have attended otherwise, but so glad we didn't miss it! If they pass your way, make time to see them! Loved it!

Styx & REO put on a great show

by Banjo on 7/12/09NOKIA Theatre LA LIVE - Los Angeles

This was a fantastic night of entertainment! All three bands, .38 Special, REO and Styx played great shows, and really put forth the effort to satisfy the fans. Everyone in the audience was really into it, with lots of sing-alongs, especially during the Styx set. Our foursome all felt that it was one of the most entertaining concerts we had seen in a long time. Oh, and the NOKIA Theatre at LA LIVE is an incredible venue, as is the excellent choice of places to eat and drink nearby. The parking was reallt easy, too.

I saw REO when I was in high school and college in the 70's, but they never sounded better than they do now! Wow, I was blown away in amazement that time has worked in they're favor. Styx was spot on as well, And I will go see them again in a heartbeat! Thanks Mike

    Styx / REO Speedwagon / 38 Special

by gkiehl on 7/12/09NOKIA Theatre LA LIVE - Los Angeles

I originally saw Styx when I was back in high school in 1978. 31 years later they still put on a great show -- overall, probably better than back then. The whole theme of the three groups was trying to stay with the harder core rock and roll songs as opposed to the lighter songs and ballads. Styx consciously did this by not playing hits like Lady, Babe, the Best of Times, etc. REO actually sounded stronger and pulled off the theme a little better. Styx and REO came back at the end to perform an encore together, something like Gotta Keep Rockin' -- it was a bit lame, but you have to appreciate the effort and desire to do something different and unique. 38 Special was okay as a first warm up group. My favorite part of the entire concert was Styx's cover of the Beatles' I Am the Walrus -- it was fantastic. Great sound, vocals and visuals. Quite an unexpected treat. Definitely my favorite cover song I have ever heard. I hope it gets recorded so I can see it again sometime.

    Styx & REO Speedwagon

by geobomber on 7/12/09NOKIA Theatre LA LIVE - Los Angeles

To me it seems like James Young has taken over being the front man for STYX. Tommy Shaw seemed pretty subdued which was not a good thing. 3 or 4 years ago when I saw them, Tommy was full of life and energy. They pretty much stayed with their standard play list. I wish they would play my favorite song “Man in The Wilderness”, but that’ll never happen. REO Speedwagon was good but not great. Kevin Cronin just can't hit those high notes anymore. I did like their new lead guitarist from Boston, Mass. He did a great job on “Take it on the run”. I honestly thought the best band of the evening was 38-Special. They played a lot of songs I had forgotten about like “Fantasy Girl”. Overall they sounded most true to their Studio versions. The lead singer sounded terrific. I thought maybe with a Van Zant in the band, they’d be able to mix in a couple Lynyrd Skynyrd songs. They must not have the rights, otherwise they would have. Overall, kudos to 38-Special and the beautiful new Nokia Theater.

by DarlahMae on 7/12/09Save Mart Center - Fresno

Wht a great show! 38 Special and REO Speedwagon were fantastic, what energy! But Styx - WOW! These guys are just awsome! Their music is timeless. It is amazing that these grown men still rock like their early years. My young boys even enjoyed the show and sang the tunes!

Styx, REO, .38 Special - Outrageous!!!!!

by Jewels1960 on 7/12/09NOKIA Theatre LA LIVE - Los Angeles

My husband and I, who have always loved these 3 bands went with some friends and took our 17 year old son and 15 year old daughter (and their friend) to this concert. Not only did we love it, but our kids did too! If they were playing again tomorrow, I would tell as many friends to go and see them, and I would definitely buy tickets and see them again! These 3 groups are as great today as they were 25-30 years ago. They rock!!!!!!!

    REO Speedwagon/Styx Rocked the House!

by MusicMoe on 7/12/09NOKIA Theatre LA LIVE - Los Angeles

I brought my 20 year old son to the concert and we had a blast. It was fantastic! I want to ensure my son sees live all of the great bands that I grew up listening to. He had a smile on his face and stood and belted out the words to the songs all rocking night long! We want the bands to come back and play LA again - soon!
