About

Styx have endured for over five decades while staying true to their progressive rock sound and theatrical live show. Since releasing their self-titled debut in 1972, Styx have sold over 54 million records worldwide between 17 studio albums, 16 compilations and nine live recordings. Notably, the band released four consecutive RIAA-certified multi-platinum albums between 1977’s The Grand Illusion, 1978’s Pieces of Eight, 1979’s Cornerstone and 1981’s Paradise Theatre, the last of which became their first to top the Billboard 200. Across their career, Styx earned eight Top 10 singles on the Hot 100, including the chart-topping “Babe” as well as “Come Sail Away” “Mr. Roboto” and their 1990 comeback single “Show Me the Way.” Despite several hiatuses and lineup changes, Styx have become one of rock’s most consistent touring acts, hosting nearly 100 live shows every year for over two decades and netting career-best earnings on massive co-headlining tours with REO Speedwagon, Foreigner and Def Leppard. In 2021, Styx released their seventeenth studio album, Crash of the Crown.

  • Great song selection

by Soaring on 9/3/11STAGE AE - PittsburghRating: 4 out of 5

Show was not high on special effects or stage work but the song selection was outstanding for the Styx fan, they played great old songs, including their most popular and some of their best lesser known tunes, and avoided ones that are not so good even if they were popular. They played them true to their original mixing and did not try to make a lot of variation on them. They played a long time and gave a lot of energy for the crowd. Definately a great show!.

  • STYX awesome! Stage AE not!

by vcxjlkvjxjvxl on 9/3/11STAGE AE - PittsburghRating: 3 out of 5

STYX was great, as always! Our experience with Stage AE was not. Tickets specify 6:30 - that means doors open at 6:30, you have no idea when the show actually starts. So, you stand in line, get in the venue a little after 6:30. You find out there is no opening act, and STYX will not start until 9:00 - they do not want to interfere with the Outlaws, playing next door at the Rib Fest, for free... As a result, you stand for 2.5 hours, waiting for the band to start, and 2 hours while the band is on. When asked if we could leave Stage AE and come back in later, the answer was "No, once you're in, you're in"! RIDICULOUS! Had we known, we could have enjoyed the Outlaws, then STYX. A little more info in advance please!

  • Styx can still rock!!!!!!!

by tibrongirl on 9/1/11Penn's Peak - Jim ThorpeRating: 5 out of 5

Had pit (standing room only) seats. was 2 rows back, and i must say Tommy still got it!! They have more enery than most younger bands today, and they play their own instruments, now there is something you dont see to much anymore.. They signed some items fans brought with them to the show, Tommy signed as many items as he could before security escourted them off the stage. I have seen them many times, and will go see them again if they come around again!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Awsome show, great attitudes, and a sold out show, it was the perfect concert!!!!!!

  • STYX ROCKED!!!

by JTLocalgirl on 8/31/11Penn's Peak - Jim ThorpeRating: 5 out of 5

Second time I saw STYX at Penn's Peak outside of Jim Thorpe. This was one of the best concerts I have been to.

  • Styx is as good as ever!!

    by Clarissa123 on 8/30/11Penn's Peak - Jim ThorpeRating: 5 out of 5

Great show. A rocking good time. As good as it was in the 80's. They can really rock the house.

  • Styx still rocks out

by Girthzilla on 8/29/11Penn's Peak - Jim ThorpeRating: 4 out of 5

The band was great. I was pleasently supprised how great they sounded without Dennis. I recomend seeing them if you are a fan.

  • Sound was terrible

    by MGIND53 on 8/29/11Penn's Peak - Jim ThorpeRating: 2 out of 5

I waited almost 20 years to see STYX with the original group. If I could have reached the sound man on the sound board I would have threw my chair at him. I was on the second floor against the right side back wall. The sound volume was so loud and over modulated that it was constantly on the verge of high end feed back. The overall volume on the instruments were so loud that you really couldn't hear the beautiful harmonies or the vocals that they so master. I had to hold my fingers in my ears because it actually hurt. My ears had major ringing for 3 days. I was just so disappointed with the sound mans lack of judgement and experience with balancing the instrument volume with vocal volume to have a well balanced enjoyable concert. The band was awesome but the sound engineer ruined the show.

  • Styx....Best of Times

  • Par for the Course

    by ladder10 on 8/28/11Penn's Peak - Jim ThorpeRating: 5 out of 5

As usual, STYX was fantastic. Seen them too many times to count and they NEVER disappoint. Energy to spare despite how long they've been around. 1st time at this venue, which was also fantastic. Small, intimate setting with a big sound. Would go back there anytime. Overall, AWESOME!!!

  • by Lostinthecrowd5 on 8/28/11Penn's Peak - Jim ThorpeRating: 3 out of 5

We thought that Styx was touring with Yes so we thought they would be there but they were not. We were very disappointed. There was NO opening act or any other band. We have seen Styx before but never saw Yes. We would not have paid so much had we known it was just Styx. They only played a little over an hour as well.

  • Styx

    by Mogen222 on 8/28/11Penn's Peak - Jim ThorpeRating: 5 out of 5

The show was fantastic. There was music from their older albums as well as the more popular tunes. There wasn't a bad seat in the house and I will be back to see shows @ Penn's Peak again.

  • by Anonymous on 8/28/11Penn's Peak - Jim ThorpeRating: 5 out of 5

  • Awesome 1st Styx concert!!!

by Balas on 8/28/11Penn's Peak - Jim ThorpeRating: 5 out of 5

Great concert, amazing performers, super venue! Penn's Peak rocks!

  • Another great performance from Styx

    by BerwickRunner27 on 8/28/11Penn's Peak - Jim ThorpeRating: 5 out of 5

Great rock concert by a band that still sings well, plays well and enjoys playing live to a responsive crowd. Penns Peak is a great place to see a concert and it was sold out. They started with Blue Collar Man and ended the regular set with Come Sail Away. The encore was I Am The Walrus and Renegade. Tommy Shaw and James Young are outstanding and the singer sounded very much like Dennis DeYoung and was very entertaining on the keyboards. They rocked throughout and played some older gems in a 1hr 50 minute concert. Took my 17 yr old daughter and 15yr old son who both knew most of the songs and all of the hits and they really liked it.

  • GREAT CONCERT

by chetp on 8/28/11Penn's Peak - Jim ThorpeRating: 5 out of 5

STYX WERE amazing. penn's peak has a great sfaff a hope to return

  • Childhood fantasy fulfilled

by Arundo on 8/28/11Penn's Peak - Jim ThorpeRating: 5 out of 5

I've wanted to see Styx since I was 12 years old. Finally after waiting 32 years, I was only 15 feet away from my favorite band. Their showmanship was simply awe-inspiring and the music was just like I remembered in my youth. Unlike so many older bands, they are not a "reunion" group. Their most recent addition was 1999 with singer Lawrence Gowan. The sound is just like it was in the seventies and they're just as tight too! Classic rock fans should see Styx. It's the best show I've ever been to and I can't wait to go again!
