STS9 (SOUND TRIBE SECTOR 9) IN CONCERT:
STS9 take fans to groovy new stratospheres with impassioned performances and a unique mix of EDM, jazz, and psychedelic rock. The group prefers building a vibe to showing off with flashy flourishes, but these rockers know their instruments -- each memberÕs instrumental prowess is on full display at all times. Drummer Zach Velmer and percussionist Jeffree Lerner combine acoustic and electronic rhythms to create a larger-than-life beat. Bassist Alana Rocklin gets heads bobbing and bodies swaying with her tasty, swinging basslines. And keyboardist David Phipps and guitarist Hunter Brown alternate between smooth leads and effects-drenched rhythm chords to keep things moving and grooving. Altogether STS9 has loaded up their funky spaceship with a killer sound system and their most immersive laser-light show yet, promising to take ticket buyers on an interstellar ride during their 2015 tour.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Formed in Atlanta in 1998, the original STS9 (short for Sound Tribe Sector 9) lineup featured Hunter Brown (guitar/midi), David Phipps (keys), Zach Velmer (drums), and David Murphy (bass/midi). The group soon released their debut album Interplanetary Escape Vehicle (1999), gaining attention for their mastery of jazz, funk, and electronica. Percussionist Jeffree Lerner came on board a year later and brought fleshed-out dance influences, which featured prominently on their 2000 sophomore effort Offered Schematics Suggesting Peace. The band then opened for superstars like Snoop Dogg, NAS, and Bassnectar before headlining tours of their own that fueled their growing reputation for stellar live performances. After David Murphy left the group in 2014, the band reached out to long-time friend and seasoned touring bassist Alana Rocklin to handle the low end. The refreshed lineup continues to bring mind-expanding music and far-out laser-light spectaculars to arenas and festivals around the world, converting more and more fans each step of the way.
Went with an open mind. Thought it was gonna be more jammed out. Songs dragged on for too long. The middle parts were very repetitive. Guitars were weak. Hoped more for the bassline. The drummer was pretty damn good though. The music was just not up my alley I guess.
UNDERSTAND I LIKE GHOSTLANDS BEATS AND THE LIGHT SHOW OUT OF CONTROLL BUT THE VOCALS OWCH! EITHER THE SOUND GUY SUCKED OR THE VOCALIST HURT MY EARS! WE DECIDED IT SOUNDED MUCH BETTER WITH OUR FINGERS IN OUR EARS:( BASSNECTAR.... LAUREN ROCKS, THANKS TO HIM MY EARS GOT SOME VIBRATIONAL HEALING BEFORE THE TRIBE KILLED IT WITH THEIR GLORIOUS SOUNDS. Thanks for a great event!

Great show... especially Ghostland, Bassnectar, and Sound Tribe. Can't wait to see Ghostland and Bassnectar again. Will be at Bassnectar October in ATHENS!
Good set of bands, Ghostland was amazing and Sound Tribe was great as usual. Wish there had been more bands, or maybe the bands just got to play longer. Also, beer was WAY TO EXPENSIVE.

ghostland observatory definitely stole the show. tribe put on a great show, and all the bands were nuts. definitely nuts
Sound Tribe threw together one hell of an event the past weekend. Starting off Friday with an opening set from Big Gigantic then Tribe throwing it down till 2 am. That was just the start. Saturday was the all day show.Throughout the day the had alternating sets between bands & Djs. Dubconscious got things going then Alex B of Pnuma threw it down. Following that Lotus played just as the sun was about to set. Lotus day set = Amazing. It was a great was to get into the groove of the madness ahead. Next was Dark Party, the set was pretty good. It got everyone ready for Ghostland Observatory who threw one hell of a Dance party. With the 4 lazer light that provided great Eye Candy for Ghostlands horror theamed dance party. Following that Bassnectar got everyone dancing to the Dubstep he was releasing. Bassnectar has stepped his game up the past couple years, creating an awesome opener for STS9. Sound Tribe threw it down, like usual, keeping the fans happy playing alot of older stuff. They opened with a Dubstep jam which was absolutely mind blowing!
Best show I have ever been to! Went to see Ghostland, who I've seen before and LOVE but was BLOWN away with Bassnector and of course, STS9!!! Wish I could see that show every day of my life. PLEASE COME BACK TO THE SOUTH!!!!!!!!!!!!
we couldn't have asked for a better show. the music was incredible and the weather was perfect. sickkk lineup :)
I went for Ghostland Observatory but Soundtribe was pretty cool.

The acoustics of the amphitheater were amazing, and even though my friends and I were in the grass, we still thoroughly enjoyed the event!!
I had lawn tickets, and being on the lawn instead of the pit just reminded me of being at all good music festival camping out on the side of the mountain grooving to the tribe as the sun set. They played an awesome set, and their encore was longer than I expected, which was a pleasant surprise.
The show was awesome but Ghostland should of had Bassnectar's spot. It was too light outside for their amazing light show. Maybe they didn't want to detract from Sound Tribe but come on. Other then that it was a ridiculous amount of fun and good music.
The show was INCREDIBLE. Ghostland, bassneckter, And sts9 all were crazy. Jamin in the pit i felt the bass run through me. I did not want the show to end.
great venue. the security was extremely lax. the line up was amazing too. ghostland into bassnector into STS9. The tribe performed a great set.
There were a couple of bands I had never seen before that played before Tribe. Ghostland Observatory kicked ass!!!! So did Bassnectar... but most of all STS9 sent me into a musical trance! MUST SEE. I had also never been to this venue before. It's a MUST to go to. beautiful area with beautiful people. I actually woke up today wanting to relive last night over again. If that says anything HA! :) peace and bacon grease.
