Too long and not especially kid friendly

by beeshybeesh on 3/4/13Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - Raleigh

So I'll admit that we took our 2.5 yr old to this show on a gamble because she is quite young but regardless of that I was kind of disappointed in the show. First... I swear I read that the show was only 1 hr long... hence taking a 2.5 yr old. It was 1 hr 45 mins though. Second... the sound was really awful. Third... I didn't think this version of Rapunzel was especially kid friendly which I expected since it was marketed as a kid's introduction to the theatre. The actors were hard to understand (partly because of the sound quality and partly due to accents) and the content of the show would go over most kid's heads. When I've seen "kids" productions before they would have more involvement from the audience built into the show to capture the little one's attention. Overall I thought this was a rough performance.

    Rapunzel

by Margesmiles on 3/4/13Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - Raleigh

This was the worst theatre production I have ever attended. The acoustics were more than terrible. The singing sounded like screaming or scretchng. The story had been altered to satarize and modernize the story but it came across as stupidly silly. The story line was completely lost to young children who expected to hear their beloved fairytale. My granddaughter was bored (age 4). Furthermore, the scenery was boring and bare. I wasted my money and time with my granddaughter.

    Rapunzel - not as promised

by FeistyNc on 3/4/13Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - Raleigh

We bought tickets to this because it was promoted as being a great first theater experience because it was very kid friendly and only one hour long. I guess if you're waiting for your kid to be at least 5, then it would have been fine. But there were more jokes for adults than kids, most of the story was told through hard to understand singing, and it certainly wasn't an hour. The first act was an hour! Ugh. The sound was even worse - there were only two volumes: none or so loud that I wanted ear plugs for myself and my little one. What a mess. We almost left at intermission, and I know lots of people did. But my 2 year old was interested in seeing the dragon again. Lol. She didn't appreciate the rest of the cast at all. Too bad. Not sure when we might try again, but it won't be this year since I can't trust the descriptions of the shows.

    Forgettable

by TheaterGoer90 on 3/4/13Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - Raleigh

This is a play for the kids, young kids. I brought my five year old daughter to it. It was enjoyable enough I guess, it wasn't boring, but it was ultimately forgettable. The funniest part was when I asked my daughter "what part was the funniest?", and she responded "I didn't know it was funny." On a technical note, most of the actors were difficult to hear. We had good seats, but because of either their voices or the acoustics, the only one we could clearly understand was the one playing Rapunzel. Overall I'd say skip it, it was $20 a ticket that I would have rather spent elsewhere.

    Disappointing show

by Penelopinna on 3/4/13Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - Raleigh

Terrible. Kids were Totally bored. Music was so loud you couldn't hear the actors. I couldn't understand the actors either. They did not articulate well and it was impossible to follow the story.

    Trainwreck

by GarytheDad on 3/4/13Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - Raleigh

This production gave the feeling that it was thrown together in order to make some bucks off the parents of young children.

    Awful

by DorothyK on 3/3/13Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - Raleigh

The plot was convoluted and plodding. The audio was terrible. One character was too loud and the rest were inaudible. The show wasn't cute enough for kids or smart enough for adults. I've seen many wonderful children's shows over the years and this one was the worst I have ever seen. We left before intermission because our grandchild was not enjoying it and either were we.

    Rapunzel was Okay

by SallyOoo on 3/3/13Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - Raleigh

I was disappointed in Rapunzel. A lot of the humor seemed geared to adults, and the audience was little girls. Plus, they couldn't seem to get the sound system figured out until the second half. Some actors were way too loud, and some you couldn't hear at all.

Poor sound, too much adult content.

by MerryMayhem on 3/3/13Duke Energy Center for the Performing Arts - Raleigh

The show we attended was a bit of a mess. The sound was terrible. The background music overpowered the actors and actresses most of the show. You could tell they were trying to tweak it dufing the show because at times the sounds of the performers voices would become deafening. My daughter is 4 and, like most kids is pretty sensitive to loud noises. The beginning of the show turned her off a bit. At 4, she didn't understand the hair dresser at all. A lot of the dialog (when we could hear it) was a little too adult. Overall my daughter enjoyed the experience. We had a girls night out. She enjoyed her chocolate chip cookie and the souvenir stand. Getting her a princess dress and hat made it easy to get her to sit for the rest of the show. She also thought it was fun when the characters ran into the audience towards the end. This definitely isn't like some of the shows we've been to, where if they return, we'd go again. I can't imagine seeing this one again, even though the tickets weren't very expensive. Overall, we enjoyed going out and the experience, but the show was just sort of blah.
