About

Considering the astonishing gifts he has already given us through his music, do we even have the right to expect any more from Stevie Wonder? Maybe, maybe not, but the truth is the artist whose first No. 1 hit came five decades ago with "Fingertips" is in the midst of a creative explosion akin with his greatest years in the 1970's. For his first studio recordings in eight years, Wonder, the rare touring act who can be called genius without qualification, has produced not one but two records, both as distinct in their origin as they are in their intention. To fulfill a promise made to his mother who passed away in 2006, Wonder is making he first foray into gospel music; he's also making an additional record that reflects not only his growing interest in hip-hop but also personal heartbreak stemming from among other things his recent divorce.

But none of this should indicate that the Motown legend is turning his back on his monumental legacy. The owner of over 50 top 40 singles has recently taken to thrilling ticket buyers by playing the entirety of his 1976 diamond selling classic Songs in the Key of Life live in concert. It is a rare that in our lifetime a legend of Stevie Wonder's stature could find equal inspiration reaching into the future as well as the past. It is rarer still that he is able to share his joyous visions in all their power with anyone fortunate enough to catch this Rock and Roll Hall of Famer on tour.

    Stevie Wonder was wonderful

by Lotatia on 7/16/09Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre at Encore Park - Alpharetta

I heard Stevie Wonder was great in concert but this show far exceeded my expectations. His tribute to the terminally ill young man, Leo was very special. Stevie is a wonderful person and performer. We had a great time!!!

    Very Entertaining show

by Frizz on 7/16/09Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre at Encore Park - Alpharetta

I thought the show was great! Stevie Wonder puts on an unforgetable performance His dancers were great, the band was good. The venue was really good, very easy to get to. The only problem was there were no programs for the show!!!! Although the show began over an hour late, it was worth the wait.

    Stevie was amazing!

by claredon on 7/16/09Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre at Encore Park - Alpharetta

Even though the show started late, it was well worth it. He performed non-stop for about two hours.

    Disappointment

by PayNoMore on 7/16/09Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre at Encore Park - Alpharetta

Will never pay to see him again. A 1 hour and 17 minute delay in starting the show, with no apology just some lame story about an ill kid. Sympathy for the kid, but never another dollar for Mr. Wonder.

    Stevie Wonder was political

by Butterfield on 7/16/09Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre at Encore Park - Alpharetta

First of all, i will probably not go to that venue again. It's very unfortunate for the consumer that they are not allowed to bring food and drinks into the arena. Everything is extremely expensive and i suppose I'm just spoiled by Chastain, which is so lovely. It is so worth the extra $25 to buy the parking upgrade and not have to ride those buses to get to the venue. Stevie was still practicing when we were supposed to have been allowed to enter the facility so a large crowd waited in the hot sun for him to finish and then he started an hour and a half late. I was a HUGE Stevie fan until i saw him and heard his political bias and witnessed his arrogance in the way he treated his fans. Never again. Ususally when i see a performer live, I like them better than before. This was a huge disappointment for me. It's better for me to not know a performers political prefrences because I don't usually agree with them and then my opinion of them making it a part of the performance goes very low.

    Stevie is still Wonder(ful)!!!

by Trujazz on 7/16/09Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre at Encore Park - Alpharetta

There are very few entertainers who still have the staying power and talent that Stevie Wonder has. Every song in his catalog is a hit and still sounds fresh. If you ever get a chance to see Stevie in concert, DO!!! You won't be disappointed.

    Simply awesome

by style on 7/15/09Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre at Encore Park - Alpharetta

In a sentence, the best concert I've ever been to. Stevie was on stage for 2 hours and sang the whole time. What an entertainer...

    Stevie was great.

by CindyMae on 7/15/09Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre at Encore Park - Alpharetta

The event started 1.5 hours late. This is because Stevie was talking with Leo a 12th grader with terminal cancer. Leo was on stage during the entire concert. This was a very generouse gesture for Stevie. We had a great time partying to all the songs that we listened to while we were creating memories. The venue was good too.

This was a political rally rather than a concert!

by ExStevieFan on 7/15/09Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre at Encore Park - Alpharetta

Arriving an hour and forty five minutes late on stage Stevie graced us with his presence and the first thing out of his mouth was "yes im late - so what" thats not to mention all the political rallying he did for most of the concert! I did not pay good money to come watch a political rally! Most of the songs he did he didn't even sing on, it was either an instrumental version or he had some no names come on stage to sing or even worse - made us sing the whole song! I cant tell you how disappointing this is as i have been a Stevie fan since back when i could remember!

    Disappointed

by jeena on 7/15/09Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre at Encore Park - Alpharetta

I was quite disappointed with the show.Firstly it started over an hour late. There was no one to come forward to atleast explain the delay to the crowd .Some of his songs were sung using a a distorted voice gadget which i found was just a waste. The guest singer did an amazing job in fact to get the crowd excited. He did not sing his all time favorite songs ...I just called to say..I love you.He dragged the sing-a-long sessions with the crowd which again I felt was not necessary. It was a fair event..nothing was spectacular about it.

    stevie unwonder

by carazy on 7/15/09Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre at Encore Park - Alpharetta

well.gates opened up 55 minutes late with no explanation.the staff at verizon didn't seem to know what they were doing.so we get in and find a great spot on the lawn and had to listen to poorly sounding and poorly selected crappy classic rock like styx.If you have stevie ,mabye you can play some quality r & b.so this torture went on till the 8:00 show that didn't start till about 9:15 .then we had t listen to how happy stevie was that obama got elected.he also said that"" if you dont like it, fire me.well you already got my 125 bucks..oh yea....the concession stands were a jokealso.they could not put food thru the window.it was sad watching the people behind the counter running around ,bumping into one another and still,,,,, no food.the pizza was a .5 on a 10 scale.I will never be subjected to this unprofessional treatment.the c/d is only 15 bucks. stevie was fair at best.getting the crowd to sing his songs??then brought up a singer from the crowd.he was good but I didn't pay to hear him.somewhere around 11 as stevie was still singing most everyone had enough and left.great job stevie.

    HUGE Disappointment!!!!

by Hotlanta on 7/15/09Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre at Encore Park - Alpharetta

Concert was suppose to start at 8:00PM. Stevie does not come on stage until 9:20. Then we hear the faith/political speech. I paid for the music which never came. He sang a bunch of filler songs and at one point brings a guy on stage from the audience to sing for 20 minutes. I definitely didn't buy a ticket for that. It's 10:45 and I have to leave because some of us have to get up and work in the morning. I heard the concert ended shortly after that. I paid a lot of money for my tickets to hear and see Stevie sing his hit songs and he did not deliver. I did not hear one single song of my Stevie favorites. I felt like I had been swindled. Had gone to Eddie Vedder concert the night before. Would rate it 5 stars, very intimate and he sang a great setlist and tickets were cheaper. If I would have known what I was getting with Stevie, I would have gladly gone to a second night of Eddie.

    Stevie was great but late!

by Tony54 on 7/15/09Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre at Encore Park - Alpharetta

The concert was billed as starting at 8pm. Mr Wonder did not enter the stage until 9:17 pm. There were no warm up acts, no comedians , no anything except piped in music. I drove 2 hrs and was in my seat at 7:45. Mr Wonder, nor anyone affiliated with him or the venue offered any explanation for the lateness of the start of the concert. Mr Wonder made an off hand remark that the media would vilify him for being late and added, " so sue me." Have we become so insignificant to performers and to venues that we are not afforded at least an explanation or apology. My mother taught me better. I would prefer, in the future, start on time and skip the apology.

    Great, but flawed

by Vonnette on 7/15/09Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre at Encore Park - Alpharetta

Stevie Wonder is one of the greatest musical talents of all time. However he was over one hour and fifteen minutes late. The audience was very forgiving, and got an excellent, if uneven concert. Being spontaneous and improvising are good things--a performance should be real not "canned." But at times it seemed unorganized. However, Stevie Wonder is great no matter what. It was nice to see so many children there. People wanted their children and grandchildren to know about his music. There were people of all ages there; his music appeals to everyone.

    Stevie Wonder was fair

by LMSY on 7/15/09Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre at Encore Park - Alpharetta

I was very disappointed. I attended Stevie's concert at Chastain Park in 2008. The concert at Chastain Park was AWESOME. I have not stopped talking about it. I talked about it so much that my sister invited me to the show a Encore Park this year. She was so excited because I raved so much about the Chastain Park 2008 concert. Firstly, the concert at Encore Park started over 1 hour late. The other patrons around my sister and me were getting very inpatient and restless. Nonetheless, I continued to encourage them letting them know that "once Stevie came on stage, it would be well worth the wait." Unfortunately, I was wrong. I thought it was beautiful gesture to have Leon on stage with him; but the concert/show itself was very disappointing.

Finally, I got the chance to see the Master Blaster. It was an awesome performance! Stevie is soooooo talented. He sings, plays, and entertains all in one. I am on a venture to see all lengendary singers and Stevie was ranked #2. I love his passionate singing, his unbelievable muscianship and the message of of his work--LOVE. I love Stevie....he's the best!

    where's Stevie's music???

by groovygirl on 7/15/09Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre at Encore Park - Alpharetta

more like restaurant, piano lounge or elevator music!! where was Stevie's music & hit songs that make us dance, sing, enjoy??? overall--boring! if tickets had been $25, maybe worth it, but too expensive for an evening of lounge music!
