  • Perfect for 9/11!!!!

by KidNurse on 9/13/10Best Buy Theater - New York CityRating: 5 out of 5

A concert of hope, love and rising from the ashes!!! As they tell their story of their famaily tragedy, it paralleled 9/11, and was perfect for NYC on 9/11 - full of both rememberence and hope. I didn't really know his music before (went because of a friend), but thoroughly enjoyed it, bought several albums, and love it now. It was a full family event... the boys opened with their band playing (and were good! Bought a CD!), as well as his wife, Mary Beth, telling a bit about her story. Very powerful. Her book is available, telling about their walk through life and learning to SEE. Opened it on the bus ride home after the concert, and was instantly in trouble...... couldn't put it down. Read ALL night. Cried all night. This is a 10-15 kleenex book that is full of hope and joy (I know that doesn't seem possible, but it is...) It is amazing, and should be read by EVERYONE, but needs A Kleenex Warning stamp on the front!!! :-) The concert is also a fundraiser for their charity Show Hope, including Maria's Big House of Hope in China, which helps abandoned children get healthy enough to be adoptable, and helps give families grants so that they can adopt.... an excellent cause! Give if you can. It helps one child at a time have a truly better life. Entered saddened, looking at the beams of ight downtown symbolizing the WTC towers. Left uplifted and joyful. Thank you to the Chapmans - you were exactly what NYC needed!!!

Steven Curtis Chapman is an incredibly gifted musician and a respectable man of God. He demonstrated that at Saturday's Concert at the Nokia Theater in NYC.

The format of the event felt more like a praise night than your traditional concert. There were songs, stories, and testimonials. Certainly, I didn't expect Steven to perform all the top hits from each of his albums, but what he chose to sing was a joy to behold. I've been listening and following his career for as long as I can remember. More often than not, his voice was the sole comfort in the darkest and loneliest times of my life. I was thrilled he and his family came to town, and I was able to share one night with them. That said, it was definitely A Night With the Chapmans. I met Mary Beth on stage for the first time. Caleb and Will Franklin were also a part of the band. The dynamics have changed from just Steven to his family on stage. This was a welcomed experience. It showed the audience that the Chapmans could easily be a family like any other, and this brought the message of Show Hope closer to home. No other date or venue could echo their loss as well as New York City on September 11th. Whoever came up with that idea was a genius. What better night to gather with this family and share songs, prayers, and hope than one when so many look to the heavens for something more, more to this life.

  • Incredible

What a wonderful night at Nokia on Sat. - Chapman was so great - great stage presence, wonderful musician and fantastic song writer. The whole night was a night to remember. The time went by so fast, wish there were two more hours!

The show was great! The only negative was the show starting so late. Doors opened at 7pm but the opening act didnt take the stage until 8:40 PM. It just ran a little late.

not even counting the fact that he + his band + his opening band are so beautifully musically artistic, talented, and gifted... the story his family has to tell is one everyone should hear. thank you Chapmans for being faithful and courageous in sharing your story!

  • Coldplay has nothing on this guy.

by revdrock on 9/13/10Best Buy Theater - New York CityRating: 4 out of 5

Steven Curtis Chapman was great, he opened a little later than what was announced not sure if that was his fault or if Nokia messed up but it was still great. He did most of his classic older songs, but did a few of the newer ones as well. It was really good his son's who opened up for him where great as well, looking forward to a cd from them sometime soon. I did have one problem which was that the greeters and ushers in the Nokia Theater where a little rude and inconsiderate by talking during the concert, and even though it was extremely loud in their I could still hear them from where I was sitting. But overall it was a great concert definitely rate it a 8.5/10

  • Heartwarming, personable, passionate performance!

by Anonymous on 11/17/09The Plaza Theatre Performing Arts Center - El PasoRating: 5 out of 5

Heartwarming, personable, passionate performance! I laughed and cried through out the entire show. I will never listen to his songs the same way as I now know why he wrote the songs and who he wrote them for. I treated myself to this concert and loved every minute of it!!! I worshipped God and cried and prayed for Steven Curtis Chapman's loss of his daughter. If I could see him again in concert, I would go in a heartbeat. I will always remember that night! I was reminded to have faith in God despite whatever happens in life. We all need to be reminded of that. Thanks Steven, you lifted my spirits

  • music too loud

by magic92 on 11/14/09The Plaza Theatre Performing Arts Center - El PasoRating: 3 out of 5

the sound of the music was too loud. You could barely hear what Mr. chapman was singing. The only enjoyable parts were when he was telling stories or using his acoustic guitar to play his songs.

  • loved it!

My husband and I really enjoyed the concert it was a beautiful experience being able to hear him live we have several of his cd's and we really love his music. All the songs he chose were beautiful. The way the Holy Spirit minister thru him was amazing his testimony touched our hearts. It was a great night!

  • by WestTexasFan on 11/13/09The Plaza Theatre Performing Arts Center - El PasoRating: 5 out of 5

Although one of the opening acts was too loud for the venue, the rest of the evening was unforgettable. The honesty of emotions and openly admitting the questioning of faith due to the tragedy made the music and lyrics that much more intense. The audience ranged across all spectrums of the community and were totally immersed in the experience. It strengthened and renewed my faith.

I love Steven's music and he is such an inspiration. Listening to his music and how he gives a history of his songs. He is such a down to earth person.

What a musically gifted and spiritually transparent guy! Even after all these years, SCC gives all he has and more to the audience. It was a packed house and we LOVED every minute!

  • Steven Curtis Chapman Rocked The House

by CatholicGrandma on 11/13/09The Plaza Theatre Performing Arts Center - El PasoRating: 5 out of 5

Steven Curtis Chapman rocked the house. He opened his heart and let us in to some of the most private, agonizing moments of his life. He shared his faith journey and his walk with Our Lord. And he sang with his heart on his sleeve, encouraging us to sing along and worship Our Lord, too. His music says so much about our lives and speaks to every heart there. I love going to his concerts and seeing everyone praising and worshipping our Lord. Thank you, SCC, for coming back to El Paso and opening our hearts, again.

I have been to a number of Christian concerts and have left feeling entertained. I left this one being reminded that God was on the throne and in control. The concert Mr. Chapmen delivered was God centered and refreshing. Thanks Steven.

This was an awesome concert. Steven was honest, genuine and showed compassion. His music has touched me in many different ways. However, his amazing faith and trust in God has enabled him to share his story of loss and grief in such a beautiful way. I have suffered many losses over the last few years, and I was truly touched by his stories, faith and desire to share with us.

He has some beautiful music that touches the heart. I was inspired how he was able to get out there and perform. Sometimes things happen in life that are difficult to understand. Through it all his music shines. Plenty of people missed out on a great performance. Thats there loss. Hope he comes back again.
