STEVE WINWOOD IN CONCERT:
Rock icon Steve Winwood continues to inspire with his soulful voice and authentic songwriting more than half a century after his debut. At his live shows Winwood touches on every period of his long and storied career, treating fans to favorites from his time with the Spencer Davis Group, Traffic, and Blind Faith before going on to perform '80s solo hits like "Higher Love" and "Roll With It". A virtuoso musician who surrounds himself with one of the best backing bands in the business, Winwood never fails to do justice to do his beloved classics justice on his must-see tours.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Born to a musical family in Birmingham, England, Steve Winwood was performing music with his older brother and father by the age of eight. He immersed himself in the city's rhythm and blues scene while still in high school, and at age 14 he joined blue-eyed soul outfit the Spence Davis Group. He recorded several hits with the group before helping form prog rock outfit Traffic, with which he also had several hits. Winwood launched his solo career in 1977 with a self-titled debut album, and in 1980 he scored his first hit with the single "While You See a Chance" from the album Arc of Diver. He continued to release successful albums throughout the '80s, racking up several No. 1 singles including "Higher Love" and "The Finer Things". With nine solo albums under his belt and numerous releases from former projects, Winwood has plenty of classic material to draw from for his career-spanning sets while on tour.
FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:
"The strength of Steve Winwood's voice has not diminished one iota over the years. His band was as tight as lightning and the jam sessions paired with each of his tunes were INCREDIBLE!"
"His voice is still so soulful and amazing. His band is as tight as ever as they have been touring together for a while now. They like to indulge in extended, jazzy jams which give everyone in the band a chance to shine."
"A man of incredible talent, with an outstanding band. His voice is not that different from 40 years ago. Played a nice selection of old and newer. Well worth seeing."
Greatest Hits Tour was great! Awesome venue and value
While he could've focused a bit more on post Blind Faith/Traffic stuff, the show was still really good. He hasn't lost any of his musical abilities, especially on guitar, and had great sidemen as well!
I was very excited for this show since I had seen him this past summer at the laidback festival in Hartford. I was a bit disappointed. The show was very short. He could have played another 1/2 hour. No encore. Sad...I probably won't see him again.
Steve Winwood is an incredible singer and musician who has surrounded himself with like minded players who are all fantastic in their own right. He has way more great songs then he could possible use in one concert so you are guaranteed to hear fabulous song after fabulous song. The Theater at Foxwoods is a beautiful arena with a great view of the stage no matter where you sit. I loved it! Winwood rules!
Winwood was at his best but only for 1 hr 30 min. The show was very short. what you heard was great but it was over before it started. No worth the ticket money that's for sure.
I enjoyed some of the show...But he didn’t play two of my favorite and most popular songs. Higher love and back in the high life....
Steve Winwood’s performance of greatest hits from Spencer Davis, Blind Faith and Traffic was outstanding! Wished there was more from his solo career. Another 30 minutes would have made this concert Amazing!
First show I watched with Winwood had a longer set, no oncore .
I loved how his daughter was an opening act, what a fantastic voice she has....then to also have his daughter sing with him during the performance. I've seen Steve before and try to see him every time he's around. My only 1 disappointment was he didn't play Fly which my husband was looking forward to hearing. He plays it in the house constantly....lol..But he is the most wonderful performer, vocals, instruments, etc. My husband and I are great fans of his. Already waiting for him to come around again.
What a night! Winwood has formed a tight unit that takes the audience through the history of rock in one set of music. I sat there in awe as I felt like a had gone to four shows at once. Spencer Davis Group, Traffic, Blind Faith, and Winwood's solo career are all represented and the songs performed come off as if they were being done by the original groups. If you are a fan of rock and wish to experience some of it's origins in their classic forms, then this is the show to see. I can't imagine another tour out there that can match it in historical value.
Thoroughly enjoyed this show. Opening act was okay - lovely girl with a beautiful voice, just not my preference for music. On the other hand, At 69. Steve Winwood still has a wonderful voice that is so unique and recognizable. From Spencer Davis Group, to Blind Faith and Traffic as well as his solo work, he still has it. The older stuff really took me back to some good times. Great show.
Stevie was awesome, he’s still got it! Both vocals and musicianship was excellent. Backup band was excellent as well. Played hits from Traffic, Blind Faith and Spencer Davis group.
I have been a huge Steve Winwood fan since my teenage days in the 80’s. As my exploration of his career continued I was amaized at the consistent level of quality art he created. I found I enjoyed his less known work as much, if not more, than his most popular works. I was lucky enough to see SW in concert at the Calvin in Northampton, MA after he released “About Time”. It was an incredible journey through music history and I was so looking forward to reliving it this past Saturday evening. Unfortunately this was not the case! The vocals were not properly amplified for a live show but the band sounded great as always. He followed his daughters 30 minute set with a very brief 75 minute show that cut back from his usual set list by 2 songs. The other artists of this generation are known for performing sets that are completely representative of their Rock-n-Roll HOF careers, this show was much less than that and left me disappointed. I must say that I left Mr. Winwood’s show feeling like I did not get value for my ticket price!
Although Steve Winwood's voice sounded great and his band was good, the concert suddenly ended a little after an hour and 11 songs. No encore. Only one 80s song played ("Roll With It") which was disappointing for a greatest hits tour. Audience left confused and wanting more. His daughter opened the show. Unfortunately, she was not much more than a coffee house singer. It felt like Steve is doing the tour to launch his daughter's career.
“Greatest hits” had no hits . Should of had his daughter sing less and played more of his hits. Venue was so smoky .. awful . Would not go back to see him or to Foxwoods !
We felt that Lily’s portion of concert was too long and Steve’s was too short. Steve was great though - his voice and instrument playing was excellent as always.
My husband and I were so disappointed in this concert! Winwood played for a about a hour... when the show was over we both looked at each other and said that was it!! Last year they had a jam session that was about 30 minuets long and played songs... this year, no jam session and songs were ok. I wear disappointed I spent money to not only see this show but because of the drive got a hotel to stay over.
He played for one hour I believe he played for his band like a jam session now the audience I would not go see him again
First time at this venue for the Steve Winwood concert. Although song selection fair, didn't play Valerie and High Life Again, the real problem was sound system. Loud and tinny sound made for an uncomfortable concert.
I would say for a man approaching 70 on 5/12 , he put a really good show on for close to 90 minutes. He opened with I’m a Man and closed with Gimme some Lovin. It is called the greatest hits tour
