Steve Hackett on Tour

A Steve Hackett show can conjure rock's potential for grandeur and glory. As a guitar hero who made his bones defining the sound of Genesis in the salad days of progressive rock, Hackett learned a thing or two about how to stage a show and how to fill it with elegant, carefully constructed melodies. Of course, he's maintained a long, rich solo career since leaving Genesis, but his legacy with the band is an undeniable part of who he is, so his shows tend to feature a combination of material from his solo albums and Genesis classics as well. And since his music is technically demanding, every tour finds Hackett backed by a top-tier crew of musicians, helping to bring his complex — but entirely accessible — compositions to life on the stage. It's a show that brings heady visions of prog rock's luminous past, but still feels completely relevant to the current moment.

Steve Hackett in Concert

As the lead guitarist for Genesis from 1971's Nursery Cryme through 1976's Wind & Wuthering, Steve Hackett was crucial to creating the template not only for the legendary British band but for progressive rock as a whole. In the spirit of the genre's adventurous approach, Hackett developed a sound unlike anything that had been heard in rock before, something simultaneously liquid and visceral. He released his first solo album, Voyage of the Acolyte, in 1975, and it became a prog classic in its own right. After leaving Genesis, he leaped with both feet into his solo career, and he hasn't stopped creating commanding music ever since. Along the way, Hackett has also taken time to collaborate with stellar peers such as Yes bassist Chris Squire (with whom he formed the duo Squackett), Yes guitarist Steve Howe (in supergroup GTR) and Alan Parsons. But he's always tended his own musical vision first and foremost, maintaining his status as a prog rock guitar hero in perpetuity.

A great evening of classic Genesis

by Bill212 on 10/16/13Scottish Rite Auditorium - Collingswood

Steve Hackett was awesome and is with out a doubt one of the best guitar players on the planet. As a fan of classic Genesis from the 70's era this show was a listening pleasure from beginning to end. You didn't come to this show for the visual or stage effects, nothing more to see there other than your typical lighting experience. But for the music it was awesome, at times I though I was listening to the Seconds Out album. The songs were played as they should of been, pretty close to the original recordings. Show started right at 7:30 and he played for the better part of 2.5 hours. I wish he was still around I'd go see it again. The Scottish Rite theater is a decent place to see a show, comfortable seats, a great view of the stage from everywhere, easy to get too and free parking. They just need to fix their step lighting, allot of dark spots makes it hard to see some steps.

    Hackett was fantastic!!!

by JKupp on 10/16/13Scottish Rite Auditorium - Collingswood

The band was fantastic. Steve what can I say the best, The base player Lee Pomeroy excellent, keyboard player Roger King excellent, the drummer Gary O'Toole great,& Rob Townsend Great. The one negative on the show was the vocalist Nad Sylvan. I know it is impossible to duplicate the vocals of Peter Gabriel, however I think Steve could have selected someone else that would have done a better job.

    Totally Awesome!

    by KAZ100 on 10/16/13Keswick Theatre - Glenside

Not much I can really say about this show except that it was totally awesome! The whole band sounded, well....totally awesome. This venue is a great place to see any show; especially one with such a rich, powerful sound. The songs chosen were great; of course there are always others you'd love to hear. I would recommend this show to any fan of 70's genesis.

Steve Hackett and his band were amazing!

by Anonymous on 10/16/13Scottish Rite Auditorium - Collingswood

Steve Hackett and his band were absolutely magical! From the first strains of Watcher of the Skies to the closing crash of Los Endos, Steve managed to recapture the magic of early progressive Genesis. Lead singer Nad Sylvan channelled a very young Peter Gabriel in stage presence while still retaining his own unique character. Roger King was flawless capturing the difficult Tony Banks keyboard parts. Gary O'Toole was amazing on the drums and during his lead vocal turns. Lee Pomeroy was excellent on bass and 12 string guitar. Rob Townsend provided beautiful flute, sax and percussion accents. Steve, of course, remains the master of the guitar! The Scottish Rite Auditorium is a lovely venue. Great evening - highly recommend both the Steve Hackett band and the Scottish Rite Auditorium.

If you like old Genesis, you gotta go!

by miked347 on 10/16/13Scottish Rite Auditorium - Collingswood

Opening with Watcher of the Skies, the keyboard sounds build to crescendo. Perfect, it doesn't get any better than this. Dancing with the Moonlit Knight is next, again perfection. If you close your eyes, you are back in the 70's. Steve Hackett has his own amazing style of electric guitar but really shines playing classical guitar when he does a solo spot. The keyboardist had all the right sounds and couldn't have been better. The bassist also playing 12 string did a wonderful job. Playing a right handed guitar upside down!! The drummer had all of the Collins chops down and was fabulous, also a great vocalist. The lead vocalist did a great job of doing the Gabriel and Collins vocals. Gabriel is not an easy voice to imitate. The mix was perfect. You gotta go!!

    heavy duty

by notaprogrockfan on 10/16/13Scottish Rite Auditorium - Collingswood

This is a heavy duty progressive rock show. If you're hoping to hear any of Genesis' more popular tunes, even those from the early 1970s, forget it. It's really oriented toward fans who know the story of the band's music from that period. If you're not familiar with it, don't go.

    Steve Hackett and band amazing!

    by kid53 on 10/15/13Keswick Theatre - Glenside

Steve sounded amazing and as good as ever! Nad Sylvan nailed the vocals and the theatrical performance. All band members contributed to the feeling that it was 35 or so years ago.

Steve Hackett live - closest to dream lineup!

    by Wilvolt2002 on 10/15/13Keswick Theatre - Glenside

My biggest rock and roll dream is to see the reunion of the classic '71 - '75 Genesis lineup... And this is the closest we may ever get. Steve Hackett's atmospheric guitar playing was always a driving force during this golden era, and he delivered over and over again on Saturday night. His style has never been flashy... As he is all substance. We received substantial helpings from both Selling England by the Pound (his best album with Gabriel) and Wind & Withering (his last album with Genesis and the best one with Phil on vocals). Blood on the Rooftops was a pleasant surprise with the acoustic intro worth the price of admission. He owned the crowd throughout the show. I hope he continues to tour with this show and to add new numbers along the way.

    Hackett: The Sound of Genesis

by DJOG on 10/15/13Keswick Theatre - Glenside

Genesis Revisited was exactly that...essentially original arrangements of classic Genesis tunes from some of their classic LP's. Hackett's sound is exactly the same as I remembered from last seeing him on stage in 1975 during "The Lamb" tour. His band was serviceable as well as was the vocalist. Although he was not anywhere near a Gabriel or a Collins. This was a very good Genesis cover band with the bonus of having the guy who wrote and originally performed the songs. The only thing I wished was that it was louder as I recall Genesis when playing songs like Supper's Ready and Los Endos in arena shows (MSG & Meadowlands) turned these into emotional experiences with the volume level.

Well, saw Steve Hackett last night and now I have a difficult task to perform this morning. Now I must decide what other concert will get bumped off my top 5 best shows of all time. I am still in awe this morning after witnessing one of the most amazing shows I have ever seen. From the first notes of "Watcher Of The Skies" to the crescendo of "Los Endos" the sellout crowd was dazzled by some of the best musicianship ever witnessed. Even when two different microphones failed in the middle of "Supper's Ready" the crowd filled in for the singer in the band without missing a word. One of my watermarks in life has been fulfilled. I have seen the original Genesis, with only one original member present. I will remember this show for a long time. If anyone out there is a true Genesis fan, you must see this show.

    steve hackett :timeless

by BIGDOG on 10/15/13Keswick Theatre - Glenside

One of the best concerts I've been to in recents years. Steve was amazing on guitar!! The band members were equally as good!! Considering that the majority of the band/lead singers were probably not born yet when this music was originally recorded/played was a testament in itself. They all sounded as good, dare I say better that then original line-up? Well maybe not, but damn they sounded good. Thoroughly enjoyed this show, the long ride from Jersey was well worth it. I only wish they were playing again somewhere nearby, as I would be going Again!!!

    Hackett Tour Awesome!

    by Rich1963 on 10/15/13Keswick Theatre - Glenside

What an incredible group of talented musicians! Steve Hackett's solos alone were worth the ticket price. Especially on Dancing With the Moonlit Knight, The Musical Box, The Lamia, and of course, Firth of Fifth. The entire show was fantastic and full of energy! Supper's Ready had to be the highlight. Just the structure of the song itself and then part VI: "Apocalypse in 9/8" - Unbelievable, especially for a drummer like myself. Keep thinking... 123**12**1234 !!! Then towards the end of Supper's Ready the mics & some instruments kicked-out, but the crowd kept the song going. Old Genesis Fans never forget (and Ripples never come back.)

    Steve Hackett - WOW !

    by L2SKI on 10/15/13Keswick Theatre - Glenside

Steve Hackett is phenomenal. His show even more so. We left the show thinking there was not a single Genesis tune we wished he played (that he had not.) Everything we wanted to hear from Nursery Crimes, Selling England, Foxtrot, Lamb, Wind and Wuthering and Trick of the Tail. WOW ! and I mean WOW!. The Keswick of course has been my favorite venue for over forty years. Yes I'm 54 yrs old and feel so fortunate to see my favorite music performed live after all these years. Genesis fan since 1973. (Not so much after Peter left) Keswick... Hot Tuna, Pat Metheny, Renaissance, Musical Box ... they bring them all. Fortunate - fortunate me.

    Steve Hackett is just fabulous.

by JackfromBoston on 10/15/13Keswick Theatre - Glenside

Saw the Genesis Revisited show at the Keswick on Saturday October 12. It was fantastic. The band is great including two singers who really bring new life to these very old songs. Steve's playing was technically perfect but also had a great deal of feeling. I liked the arrangements--using soprano saxophone as a great complement to guitar playing. The only thing missing was more of Steve's solo music, but I understand that the occasion was Genesis Revisited. I also wish we could hear the ending of All in a Mouse's Night--not the whole song just the very ending with the organ and then great guitar solo.

Been waiting for 40 years to hear this music live by an orginal member. Hackett is truely a master of his style and sound. The show was simply a highlight of my 45 years of concert going. My last Hackett show was Lamb Tour 1974 at the Mosque in Richmond..Suppers Ready was life changing then and now.

    Fabulous concert

    by bozfan2 on 10/15/13Keswick Theatre - Glenside

The thought Steve Hackett replaying his Genesis songs was very appealling, hence the reasons I bought tickets for this show. The show far exceeded my anticipation. The set list was ideal for any early years genesis fan, with selections from Trespass, Nursery Crimes, Selling England By The Pound, The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway, Trick Of The Tail and Wind And Wuthering. The sound quality was excellent, as were the vocalists. The band was tight and the very slight arrangement modifications to songs were improvements, especially the horn. I would pay double to see Steve Hackett again, I actually gave consideration to seeing him the following night at the Scottish Right Auditorium. I highly recommend this concert tour for anybody that is an early years Genesis fan.

    Excellent show on Saturday!

by OKCool on 10/15/13Keswick Theatre - Glenside

Steve Hackett proved to be the gracious, humble, soft-spoken and talented musician I hoped he would be. The ensemble that he collected was strong, musically, and provided a wonderful stroll down "the soundtrack of my youth" (aka memory) lane. The sound (thanks to the engineer and the Keswick's acoustics) was great. Only one glitch when the PA seemed to go our for a second or two. Other than that, at times I thought I was back in the 70's lying on my back, eyes closed with my headphones on - maybe some incense burning across the room (maybe that wasn't incense?). My group of family and friends collectively agreed that the performance was "Awesome!".
