Steve Hackett on Tour

A Steve Hackett show can conjure rock's potential for grandeur and glory. As a guitar hero who made his bones defining the sound of Genesis in the salad days of progressive rock, Hackett learned a thing or two about how to stage a show and how to fill it with elegant, carefully constructed melodies. Of course, he's maintained a long, rich solo career since leaving Genesis, but his legacy with the band is an undeniable part of who he is, so his shows tend to feature a combination of material from his solo albums and Genesis classics as well. And since his music is technically demanding, every tour finds Hackett backed by a top-tier crew of musicians, helping to bring his complex — but entirely accessible — compositions to life on the stage. It's a show that brings heady visions of prog rock's luminous past, but still feels completely relevant to the current moment.

Steve Hackett in Concert

As the lead guitarist for Genesis from 1971's Nursery Cryme through 1976's Wind & Wuthering, Steve Hackett was crucial to creating the template not only for the legendary British band but for progressive rock as a whole. In the spirit of the genre's adventurous approach, Hackett developed a sound unlike anything that had been heard in rock before, something simultaneously liquid and visceral. He released his first solo album, Voyage of the Acolyte, in 1975, and it became a prog classic in its own right. After leaving Genesis, he leaped with both feet into his solo career, and he hasn't stopped creating commanding music ever since. Along the way, Hackett has also taken time to collaborate with stellar peers such as Yes bassist Chris Squire (with whom he formed the duo Squackett), Yes guitarist Steve Howe (in supergroup GTR) and Alan Parsons. But he's always tended his own musical vision first and foremost, maintaining his status as a prog rock guitar hero in perpetuity.

    Steve Hackett - Excellent Musicianship

by laiguanachapina on 10/15/13Keswick Theatre - Glenside

The Genesis Revisited II concert was aamazing, Hackett played inspired guitar, both acoustic and electric/synthesized, the band was tight with some incredible chords in songs difficult to interpret. The acoustics of the venue were solid and we can only hope the full remodelation of the Keswick Theatre is completed soon.

What an unbelievable assemblage of musical talent on that stage Saturday night! It certainly helped to purchase my tickets nearly six months in advance, as there's nothing like sitting in the front row!! The sound system was great, the lighting simple but spectacular, and Steve was just beyond amazing.

Steve Hackett puts out big time.

by brimey on 10/15/13Keswick Theatre - Glenside

From songs like Watcher of the Skies to Dance on a Volcano, Steve Hackett was a Genesis fans tour de force during the bands most creative period. Friday night's show at the Keswick Theatre in Glenside near Philadelphia, PA was as good of a show from the actual band from the 70s, with virtuosic playing from electric to acoustic guitar from Steve. The other band members were all exceptional, flawless, and when possible, even made there own personal stamp on these modern music amazing songs.

    Steve Hackett - Genesis revisited

by Anonymous on 10/15/13Keswick Theatre - Glenside

There are few things which can compare to hearing live Genesis music performed by one of the original members. Steve must have heard the prayers of many Genesis faithful and provides a wonderful selection of the catalog from the glory years of which he was part and a few others. Alas, this was my second show, having caught it two weeks earlier in Westbury NY and I fear this tour may be the last time these compositions will be heard as performed by an original band member . His backing band and vocalist were perfect. Catch it if at all possible. JR

Nice to hear many of the old Genesis classics. The backing band was excellent, and the production at the Keswick (sound and lighting) was terrific.

Nad Sylvan was perfect in sound, fury, and theatrics. Thank you Mr. Hackett for bringing the magic one more time. Tell me, how do you make your guitar sing like that?

    Steve Hackett Was Amazing

    by Eagles6725 on 10/14/13Keswick Theatre - Glenside

Steve Hackett obviously loves the music of Genesis that he was a part of writing. His passion shines through in every possible way, from his playing to his fond memories when he introduces songs. His band had great musicians and not once did they ever try to be something that they were not. They stayed true to the original music with some personal flare but nothing that detracted in any way from the integrity of the performance. If you love old Genesis music and you want to see someone perform it from the original band then find a venue close to you and go see Steve Hackett. It is well worth the money.

    Steve Hackett

by WOWOWO on 10/14/13Keswick Theatre - Glenside

This was an excellent concert. The band performed every songs exactly like the original recording except that Steve added a 3-4 minute guitar piece at the end of Supper's Ready (which by the way worked perfectly). The good thing is they were not trying to be Genesis they were just playing the Genesis music. It was interesting that in the bathroom at the end of the concert my wife over heard someone comparing the show to "The Music Box" the Genesis tribute band (which by the way recreates the early Genesis show very well). Make it perfectly clear, Steve is not recreating Genesis he is just playing music the he was an integral part of writing and performing. They use two different singers to ensure they get the sound right. The lead singer did an excellent job and it was really nice that he was entirely different than Peter Gabriel but sounded just like him. background info: I have seen Genesis 23 time (first time 1971 at Princeton University/ the show was $2.50 per ticket and they didn't sell out)

    Steve destroys the keswick

by gbring on 10/14/13Keswick Theatre - Glenside

These 2 shows were fantastic. It was near the end of the tour and Steve and his band were showing signs of wear from being on the road for several months. With that being said they still put on a great show. The second night we got a different song, The Lamia instead of The Return of The Giant Hogweed. They played for about 2 hours and 22 minutes. If he comes back around again, GO SEE HIM!!!!

An intense and beautiful musical experience

by Denport on 10/14/13Keswick Theatre - Glenside

Steve Hackett's Genesis Revisited Tour is a must see show for any Genesis and/or Steve Hackett fan. The musical performance during the show is intense, beautiful and very impressive. As Steve quoted at the show: "tonight we are playing music that resists to die" ... long live Genesis! The band's is very fit/tight and the concert sound is the closest you may get to perfection from a live sound perspective. Steve' guitar playing is masterful and unique, but specially it trasmits emotion and provides various different soundscapes. Definitely there was a good connection between the Steve and his band with the audience. Kudos to Steve Hackett and this band for this Tour (i've seen 2 shows so far ...) Don't miss this tour!!! EXCELLENT!!!

    Steve Hackett is extraordinary

    by crawlers11 on 10/14/13Keswick Theatre - Glenside

Having never seen Genesis with Hackett, it was a pleasure to see him perform the songs in person. The song selections were great and the performances of the other musicians was tight. There were many magical moments, the Wind & Wuthering songs, the extended guitar solo at the end of Supper's Ready and, of course, his solo on Firth of Fifth. This was a show not to be missed.

Steve Hackett and his band, this is real music.

    by lionel56 on 10/14/13Keswick Theatre - Glenside

Seeing Steve Hackett, just was amazing, his guitar style and technique is something to behold. Not like today's music, if you can even call it music! I am so glad that steve stepped up and continues to carry the torch for die hard early genesis fans, years ago you had to be really good and not really sound like anybody else. Not like today, with your corporate run music and all that no talent out there making money! Just like Greg Allman said when he was asked about rap music, and he said rap is short for crap! Anyway I feel blessed to have grow up in a time when music was music.Todays kids are nothing but robots, unable to feel love or compassion, that's why they will never understand good music, they are all stuck inside the box.
