Steve Hackett on Tour

A Steve Hackett show can conjure rock's potential for grandeur and glory. As a guitar hero who made his bones defining the sound of Genesis in the salad days of progressive rock, Hackett learned a thing or two about how to stage a show and how to fill it with elegant, carefully constructed melodies. Of course, he's maintained a long, rich solo career since leaving Genesis, but his legacy with the band is an undeniable part of who he is, so his shows tend to feature a combination of material from his solo albums and Genesis classics as well. And since his music is technically demanding, every tour finds Hackett backed by a top-tier crew of musicians, helping to bring his complex — but entirely accessible — compositions to life on the stage. It's a show that brings heady visions of prog rock's luminous past, but still feels completely relevant to the current moment.

Steve Hackett in Concert

As the lead guitarist for Genesis from 1971's Nursery Cryme through 1976's Wind & Wuthering, Steve Hackett was crucial to creating the template not only for the legendary British band but for progressive rock as a whole. In the spirit of the genre's adventurous approach, Hackett developed a sound unlike anything that had been heard in rock before, something simultaneously liquid and visceral. He released his first solo album, Voyage of the Acolyte, in 1975, and it became a prog classic in its own right. After leaving Genesis, he leaped with both feet into his solo career, and he hasn't stopped creating commanding music ever since. Along the way, Hackett has also taken time to collaborate with stellar peers such as Yes bassist Chris Squire (with whom he formed the duo Squackett), Yes guitarist Steve Howe (in supergroup GTR) and Alan Parsons. But he's always tended his own musical vision first and foremost, maintaining his status as a prog rock guitar hero in perpetuity.

    Mr Steve Hackett

by mburke1008 on 3/30/14Scottish Rite Auditorium - Collingswood

WOW, what a show. Steve and his band were terrific. The atmosphere in the Scottish Rite Theater was perfect for this show. It seemed as if Steve was talking/singing to each person individually. It was hard to imaging Steve putting together to replicate Genesis but he did. The singer put on his own show with the spirit of the original Genesis. The drummer, keyboard, the mysterious bass player and the rest of the band just seemed to fit perfectly together. You could see the band was putting their whole heart into this show and not just going through another performance. I brought a friend who has never been to a real rock concert, she was mostly into salsa and latino music but she was amazed to. Got to go see.

    Steve Hackett - Genesis Revisted

by TonyDPhilly on 3/30/14Scottish Rite Auditorium - Collingswood

This band that Steve Hackett has assembled to perform classic early Genesis pieces is so stupendous that I would go see them again again. The audience was enthralled throughout the two hour show.

    Return Of The Giant Hackett

by Rockorael on 3/30/14Scottish Rite Auditorium - Collingswood

A dream realized which I never thought would come true. Over 2.5 hours of a "Royal Flush" of songs delivered impeccably by the guitar virtuoso Steve Hackett. I've seen him over half dozen times and got the occasional nuggets of vintage Genesis songs sprinkled in. But this? This was the greatest. Spanning from Trespass' The Knife through Nursery Cryme (Fountains of Salamcis) through Horizons/ Suppers Ready to Squonk and Los Endos, it had it all. Never have seen Steve so energized and engaged in his work. He looks half the age of the 80% of the crowd. Nick Beggs on bass/ double-neck was incredible as was Roger King as always touching every note as if it was Tony Banks himself on the keyboards. The lead singer Silver needs a stronger performance in the tour ahead, too much straining on vocals for just the second show on the tour. His histrionics are a bit distracting at times as well. No one can be or try mimic Gabriel in his prime. Just sing it out. In all, it was the highlight of my concert going life to see this show. I traveled from Louisville, Ky. to see it and it was worth every penny. Rockorael

    Steve Hackett - Incredibly Talented!!!!!

by OneSingleTear on 3/30/14Scottish Rite Auditorium - Collingswood

I'm a huge Genesis fan and have been for years. I loved and enjoyed this tour so much because many of the songs played on this tour I've never had the opportunity to see Genesis play in concert. Steve is incredibly talented and his energy is contagious! I hope the band will continue to do the Genesis Revisted Tour for a long time. I would LOVE to this show over and over again!!!!

Hackett is a Must See for pre-1977 Genesis Fans!

by Anonymous on 3/30/14Scottish Rite Auditorium - Collingswood

Steve has changed the setlist some for 2014. It was fantastic and surprising to hear Squonk and Lilywhite Lilith live for the the first time after seeing Genesis perform over a dozen times previously. Rob on the soprano sax was brilliant and Steve's guitar and the sax were perfectly tuned. Transition between the two instruments during critical parts of a song were undetectable, at least to this ear. Gary on drums was also brilliant and had some great lead vocals. Nad as lead vocalist was the biggest challenge for me but it must be vey hard to sing as both Peter and Phil during the same performance. Brilliant...absolutely brilliant performance.

    One of the best concerts...

by Pghtroll on 1/10/14Keswick Philly - Philadelphia

Wow. I know that some will criticize the lead singer, but frankly I walked out of this show with the thought it was the best concert I have ever seen. Steve Hackett's performance is beyond reproach, and his ensemble was A+. Yes, I wish I had a time machine and could see early 1970's Genesis, but since that ship sailed, this was the next best thing. Supper's Ready may be the pinnacle of my concert viewings, and if I don't ever see another show, I would die happy.

    Steve destroys the keswick

by gbring on 1/6/14Keswick Theatre - Glenside

Second night was almost as perfect as the first night. Some microphone problems towards end of Supper's Ready but not too bad. Band was tired from traveling through driving rain to make the gig. They were still fantastic. When Steve comes back around GO SEE HIM. It's a long show and well worth seeing, especially when most of the show is Genesis.

    Rock the Scotts

by gbring on 1/6/14Scottish Rite Auditorium - Collingswood

Great show. You could tell everyone was tired, last night of the tour. No sound problems, everyone played beautifully. When Steve comes back around GO SEE HIM. It's a long show, 2.22 hours. It's even better than The Musical Box, which is hard to beat.

Steve Hackett - only getting better with age!

    by Aerochick0 on 10/26/13Keswick Theatre - Glenside

Prior to this show, we had seen Phil Collins once, and saw The Musical Box perform Foxtrot and The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway. Steve Hackett was hands down the most impressive musically!!! The Keswick theatre is our favorite venue - since it is small and the acoustics are great, there is no bad seat in the whole place. The crowd was on fire with this performance - I was surprised to see so many people who seemed to know every note from each complicated prog rock song. It was awesome. I know this was the Genesis Revisited song, but I was hoping for a few more Hackett solo numbers.

    Excellent show

by Timmahh on 10/22/13Scottish Rite Auditorium - Collingswood

Steve was in good form. The band was perfect. The music selection was all encompassing. And the Scottish Rite Auditorium is the best place to see a show in this area. But please don't tell anyone.

    Steve Hackett Genesis revisited 2

by oggydog on 10/19/13Scottish Rite Auditorium - Collingswood

Steve hasn't lost a bit. I felt like I was 16 again. The tall blond guy invoked al little Gabriel without him appearing to copy him. I was in awe of his mastery of all things stringed. Watched of the skies was my fave. He received many standing os. I didn't want him to stop. Well go again. thanks Steve. Band behind him all l tremendous. cudos to the bass player. Wow! he also played a right handed guitar upside down. but still strummed down. interesting. pay off the unique sound. Very able indeed

    1970's Genesis recreated

    by Mike155 on 10/18/13Keswick Theatre - Glenside

Wonderful show for fans of early Genesis from the '70's, mostly Peter Gabriel era but a few songs from Wind and Trick. Very faithfully executed with 6 musicians, many multi-instrumentalists, and commentary between songs by Steve. I definitely would recommend it to Progressive rock fans.

    Hackett Still Has It!

by Rhoadz on 10/18/13Keswick Theatre - Glenside

Concert was fantastic and cannot wait until he returns. He and his band-mates are incredible musicians, especially Steve. He hasn't lost a step AT ALL. Nice to know original Genesis still lives thru Hackett's performance and that of the Musical Box. These are great progressive rock shows that completely bring back that original sound. Also wanted to note that your staff always do a fine job dealing with a bunch of middle-age men with beer. This venue is classic!

We saw Steve and the band on the Cruise to the Edge. They were amazing then and even better on Saturday! If you love Genesis do not miss this tour!

I saw this tour in California at CalProg and at the Keswick totally enjoying Hackett's show a second time. He looked as good as ever. His guitar licks are always sweet.

    Steve Hackett is God

by greggrisch on 10/16/13Keswick Theatre - Glenside

Wow!! What a show, I felt like I went back in time. Crowd was great, sound was great, the musicians were just unbelievable. Can't wait to see them again!! Was great to hear all the old classics. If have any complaints, the seating was very constraint. I noticed a few people had to get up and stand in the aisle to get some relief from being cramped.

    Amazing concert

by Goterpsgo on 10/16/13Scottish Rite Auditorium - Collingswood

Steve Hackett and the band were incredible. I think Steve is a better guitarist now than he was 40 years ago, when this Genesis music was recorded. They played for 2 hours and 20 minutes, and it felt like the whole show took 30 minutes. Great performances always seem to go by fast. Thank you Steve, and the band, and I hope you come back again soon.

    Awesome show !!!

by palba64 on 10/16/13Scottish Rite Auditorium - Collingswood

Concert was even greater than I expected - Steve Hackett is one of the greatest (and unsung) classic/progressive guitar heroes, and he put together an A+ band to revisit his Genesis legacy !!
