  • Great energy and performance - Horrible Sound

    by E108 on 12/6/17Town Hall - New YorkRating: 3 out of 5

We LOVED Emmy Lou and Steve Earle and the Dukes (especially the Mastersons) and Lucinda Williams. Wonderful performances and energy from all, but we have NEVER heard such horrible sound. The mikes were off, the performers drowned each other out on several pieces, there was no balance across the performancers or their instruments. We couldn't figure out why the sound board was on the SIDE of the stage, but clearly, that wasn't a good idea. HORRIBLE results! How to ruin what would have otherwise been an amazing concert.

  • Steve Earle was amazing

by Supplepig on 9/26/17State Theatre, Kalamazoo - KalamazooRating: 5 out of 5

Everything about this show was great. The opening act started on time and Steve even came out to introduce them which was pretty classy. I was very impressed with their music and then they came out with the dukes which was cool. My brother who hasn't been to a concert in nearly twenty years went with me and loved it as well,

Hard to say if they were giving a good performance. Ruined by sound being way way to loud.

  • Twangy Rocky Country

It was good. Had the feel of Waylon to it. There was a couple of band members that called themselves The Mastersons. They were good in their own right. At one point while introducing the band he commented that the woman (Masterson not sure of the first name) brought the group up by 20%. He was on the money. She was hot talented and certainly on her way up. Without her it would still be good but she certainly boosted the entire performance.

  • See Steve Earle he is a treasure

by newaygokid on 9/25/17State Theatre, Kalamazoo - KalamazooRating: 5 out of 5

Great show Steve played over two hours. He has a new CD and it is great. Played new and old The Matsons opened then joined the Dukes when Steve took the stage. This is one I will always remember

  • Steve Earle is my hero

by Buckthornslayer on 9/25/17State Theatre, Kalamazoo - KalamazooRating: 4 out of 5

Great take no prisoners show from Earle, punctuated by personal reflections on loss of Guy Clark. He played over 2 hrs, from country to folk to rock. He has pedal steel player this tour yay! The air conditioner couldn't keep up with heat wave so it was hot, only negative

  • Steve Earle is a Master of His Craft

by Woodsheddin on 9/25/17State Theatre, Kalamazoo - KalamazooRating: 4 out of 5

Steve Earle has grown from the maverick stallion to the gentleman's steed in the terms of musicianship and performance. He doesn't shy away from his experiences, owns the space around him and his band and beautifully spins stories of his life experiences into fantastic musical tales. Great performance from beginning to end. As for The State Theatre, it's one of my favorite rooms as a general rule. However, that night, it was hotter than HELL!!! 95F outside all day brought that room to a swelter by 9pm.

  • Worth every penny

Steve is a singer songwriter not to be missed. Loved the back-up Mastersons!

  • Not as expected!

by myxi on 8/26/17Deadwood Mountain Grand - DeadwoodRating: 2 out of 5

We were all very disappointed in this show!! The older songs were great to hear, and a few a the new songs were good. Over all we felt it was a very depressive and non personable concert! Even the meet and greet was non personal. We all realize it can be overwhelming but the mood of Steve Earle and the Dukes "Just wasn't there"!!

  • NO POLITICS

    by Asshole9 on 8/24/17Deadwood Mountain Grand - DeadwoodRating: 3 out of 5

Music: awesome Sound: to much feedback Seating: good Love the concert until Earle went political on the crowd, TWICE. We pay good hard earned money to enjoy concerts and do not wanted to hear political views of the artist. It does not matter if the are the same as mine and not, NOT AT A CONCERT. Walked out of the venue feeling like it was a political rant. NOT GOOD

  • Steve Earle Performed a Great Concert

by FrogCreek on 8/23/17Deadwood Mountain Grand - DeadwoodRating: 5 out of 5

Earle's story telling and tying the stories to the music was excellent. His voice is a little rougher than it was 30 years ago but I think it's getting even better. His band and back-up/feature singers were great. Musicians were tight and excellent. The only criticism would be the voice mixing. Pushing the music, garbled the voices. His music doesn't need to be cranked up to get the message across. His words are his message.

  • What an amazing man!!

  • Legendary singer/songwriter

by Yakgal on 8/22/17Deadwood Mountain Grand - DeadwoodRating: 4 out of 5

Steve Earle is a legend, no doubt about it. Enjoyed the concert very much, with a few exceptions. Wish he had played more of his old stuff, as I think that's what a lot of us oldies came for. And why or why do some musicians feel the need to school us on their politics? I just passed on Bonnie Raitt's concert for that very reason. Last, way too liberal with the f-word...I'm no prude, but I did tire of hearing it over and over. That being said, he is an amazing musician and writer and The Dukes kicked some serious a$$. May have to go out and buy whatever The Mastersons have out.

  • Wasn't the Steve Earle I remembered.

by roscor on 8/22/17Deadwood Mountain Grand - DeadwoodRating: 1 out of 5

Sound was terrible. Music drowned out the vocals. The only words you could understand were on old songs that you knew, and that was only about 3 songs. Also I didn't go to listen to his political views, I went to hear him sing the songs that made him famous.

  • American no more

    by CathyKlements6056 on 8/22/17Deadwood Mountain Grand - DeadwoodRating: 1 out of 5

Absolute let down. Once a great American country song writer, now a self proclaimed political activist. Mr. Earle used his show to speak out against the fans who have loyally supported him. It's a disgrace when an entertainer forgets his purpose, and ruins an evening by setting an uncomfortable tone for the demographic present. The Grand should not invite Mr. Earle back to play in South Dakota.
