About

Over three decades and numerous albums, industrial metal scene leaders Static-X are consummate survivors. Even after the untimely death of lead singer Wayne Static in 2014, the group has regenerated and continued to record new music while honoring the late frontman's legacy. Unlike their more straightforward '90s nu-metal counterparts, Static-X were heavily influenced by house music, blending influences like Pantera with the electronic stylings of Prodigy and the Crystal Method to define their sound.

Static-X were originally formed in 1994 after Wayne Static's former band, Deep Blue Dream (featuring a pre-Smashing Pumpkins Billy Corgan), broke up. Along with drummer Ken Jay and guitarist Emerson Swinford, Static relocated from Chicago to Los Angeles and the trio formed a band called DRILL. Swinford left the band and was replaced by Koichi Fukuda, and Static-X was born.

The band's first album came out in 1999 at the height of the nu-metal era. Wisconsin Death Trip contained the singles "Push It," "I'm With Stupid" and "Bled For Days." They played Ozzfest to support the album and released an EP, The Death Trip Continues, the following year.

Fukuda departed Static-X soon after, and in 2001 the band released their sophomore effort: Machine. The following year, Wayne Static's vocals were featured on the Queen Of The Damned: Music From the Motion Picture soundtrack ("Not Meant For Me," written by Korn's Jonathan Davis). Jay left the band shortly after, and in 2003 Static-X's third album, Shadow Zone, was released, featuring "The Only" and "So" as singles. Replacing Jay was former Seether drummer Nick Oshiro.

In 2004, Static-X released Beneath... Between... Beyond..., a collection of rarities and demos. The band released their fourth album, Start A War, in 2005 with "I'm the One" and "Dirthouse" released as singles. In 2007, Static-X shared a fifth album, Cannibal, which had music ("No Submission") featured on the Saw III soundtrack. Also in 2007, the band shared their exclusive Destroyer EP and toured on Ozzfest once more.

In 2009, the band released their fifth album, Cult Of Static. The album single "Lunatic" appeared on the soundtrack to Marvel's Punisher: War Zone. Oshiro left Static-X around this time and was replaced by touring drummer Will Hunt.Ā Ā

By the 2010s, the members of Static-X had split off to concentrate on separate projects, and Static toured with a solo band under the Static-X name. In 2013, the band announced that they were officially breaking up, though Static continued to play the band's material on tour as a solo act. In 2014, Static died at 48 ostensibly due to a long history of substance abuse, though officially his death was termed a natural one.Ā

A few years after Static's death, the former band members reunited and began to parse through old unreleased demos. Composing new songs from that material resulted in Project Regeneration, which came out in two volumes, the first of which dropped in summer 2020. To support the album, the newly reformed Static-X toured with a new, masked frontman named "Xer0," who was rumored to be Edsel Dope of Dope. The band also released a single, "Hollow," which peaked in the Top 15 in the U.S. Dance/Electronic chart.

Probably the best show I have seen so far in 2023. New Fear Factory singer Killed it. Static-x with Zero cant get any better. All the bands played and sounded amazing. Props to Cultus Black for doing a great job. They are one to watch for the future

I had a great time! They played all the hit songs. The venue was clean and this was a sold out show.

  • Amazing

    by K on 4/3/23Roxian Theatre - PittsburghRating: 5 out of 5

This was an amazing show, Static-X very much has Wayne present after his passing, it was handled wonderfully, and the music itself rocked. I've seen them both before and after, and it's definitely still worth it. Fear factory absolutely rocked as well. No one can be Burton, but the new singer really brings it; absolute blast to watch. The openers were all enjoyable, I never felt bored or disinterested, it was a long show and I stayed engaged the entire time.

  • Crazy fun show!

4 stars instead of 5 cuz twiztid sucks and I think part of the tour is getting Mushroomhead and I'm kinda salty we didn't. Dope is always a good time, even though they played a short set. Love this guy's and their energy. Fear Factory was awesome and played a lot of old and newer stuff. First time seeing them, absolutely loved it. Seen Static X wayback in 02-03 and then twice in the past 12 months. RIP Wayne, but they are still a complete madhouse of a band and performance was badass! Badass show overall! Highly recommend!!

All the bands were awesome. And it was cool to meet Cultus Black and finally meet Dino from Fear Factory. Had meet and greet with Dope, hanging out with them on the bus.

  • Always enjoy attending a Static-X show

by Larry on 4/2/23Bogart's - CincinnatiRating: 5 out of 5

I always enjoy attending a Static-X show, i believe this was my third time seeing them at various places. I wish they would have turned up the main microphone for Dope and Fear Factor, but still had a great time.

  • Awesome show! šŸ¤˜šŸ’€šŸŽµ

by Joseph on 4/1/23Bogart's - CincinnatiRating: 4 out of 5

The only thing I'd have a complaint about is me and the person I was with had to take our wallet chains off and put them in a bag to get after the show. She even had to take a choker off because it had a big ring on it? We did get them back at least, I'd just be mad if I forgot. The staff was cool about it and the show was great. The staff up front giving out cups of h20 was awesome also! If only there was a way to buy a beer and not have to fight your way back to the front...wishful thinking lol.

Made the drive from Louisville and it was worth every minute. All 5 bands were great well worth the drive.

  • They must be worn out

    by R3mr4f13 on 4/1/23Bogart's - CincinnatiRating: 4 out of 5

With majority of the bands sharing members they have to be worn out... couldn't really tell though... stage performance was amazing! Sound during dope sounded a bit muffled sadly... fear factory a new vocalist nailed it as I was quite impressed... cultus black was good as always... twiztid was a huge shock and actually left me wanting more! Static x was amazing and I can't wait for the next tour already! Glad I got tickets to this sold out event!

All the bands killed it and the crowd was hype, I’m still sore from the pit

  • What’s up with these prices.

by Why such expensive drinks on 3/31/23Roxian Theatre - PittsburghRating: 3 out of 5

The drinks are absolutely over priced like a big concert it’s ridiculous. The bands prices were better. 22 dollar for a double shot mixed drink. 2 shots. I mean they are making money hand over fist with that and the double cans are 15 a piece. That’s crazy you buy them at the store for 3 dollars.
