Over three decades and numerous albums, industrial metal scene leaders Static-X are consummate survivors. Even after the untimely death of lead singer Wayne Static in 2014, the group has regenerated and continued to record new music while honoring the late frontman's legacy. Unlike their more straightforward '90s nu-metal counterparts, Static-X were heavily influenced by house music, blending influences like Pantera with the electronic stylings of Prodigy and the Crystal Method to define their sound.
Static-X were originally formed in 1994 after Wayne Static's former band, Deep Blue Dream (featuring a pre-Smashing Pumpkins Billy Corgan), broke up. Along with drummer Ken Jay and guitarist Emerson Swinford, Static relocated from Chicago to Los Angeles and the trio formed a band called DRILL. Swinford left the band and was replaced by Koichi Fukuda, and Static-X was born.
The band's first album came out in 1999 at the height of the nu-metal era. Wisconsin Death Trip contained the singles "Push It," "I'm With Stupid" and "Bled For Days." They played Ozzfest to support the album and released an EP, The Death Trip Continues, the following year.
Fukuda departed Static-X soon after, and in 2001 the band released their sophomore effort: Machine. The following year, Wayne Static's vocals were featured on the Queen Of The Damned: Music From the Motion Picture soundtrack ("Not Meant For Me," written by Korn's Jonathan Davis). Jay left the band shortly after, and in 2003 Static-X's third album, Shadow Zone, was released, featuring "The Only" and "So" as singles. Replacing Jay was former Seether drummer Nick Oshiro.
In 2004, Static-X released Beneath... Between... Beyond..., a collection of rarities and demos. The band released their fourth album, Start A War, in 2005 with "I'm the One" and "Dirthouse" released as singles. In 2007, Static-X shared a fifth album, Cannibal, which had music ("No Submission") featured on the Saw III soundtrack. Also in 2007, the band shared their exclusive Destroyer EP and toured on Ozzfest once more.
In 2009, the band released their fifth album, Cult Of Static. The album single "Lunatic" appeared on the soundtrack to Marvel's Punisher: War Zone. Oshiro left Static-X around this time and was replaced by touring drummer Will Hunt.
By the 2010s, the members of Static-X had split off to concentrate on separate projects, and Static toured with a solo band under the Static-X name. In 2013, the band announced that they were officially breaking up, though Static continued to play the band's material on tour as a solo act. In 2014, Static died at 48 ostensibly due to a long history of substance abuse, though officially his death was termed a natural one.
A few years after Static's death, the former band members reunited and began to parse through old unreleased demos. Composing new songs from that material resulted in Project Regeneration, which came out in two volumes, the first of which dropped in summer 2020. To support the album, the newly reformed Static-X toured with a new, masked frontman named "Xer0," who was rumored to be Edsel Dope of Dope. The band also released a single, "Hollow," which peaked in the Top 15 in the U.S. Dance/Electronic chart.

Loved every minute of it. The band still sounds amazing and Xero does a great job of not trying to replace Wayne and they all still keep his legacy alive!
I've been waiting for nearly two years for this show and it did not disappoint!! Ace of Spades was spectacular as usual. Vip meet and greet was smooth and efficient. Upgraded seats were just what I wanted, and the staff took care of us like we were family...
The whole experience for me was awesome, from the entrance to the end of the show. Cultus Black I think up-showed Twiztid and in my opininion should have been second band to go up because they had the crowd and I'm sure gained a-lot of new fans period. Twiztid did a good job but to put them second after Cultus Black was a bad idea because it killed the vibe with there style of music. Dope is one of the reasons why i wanted to go to this show but I was a little let down because I didn't see the guitarist "Virus" play with them this time around, and the sound coming out of the speakers during there performance sounded a little too low or Mudded but even though that what happened they are still a great awesome band, much love and respect to all of them. Now Fear Factory, Wow!!! They were just Perfect and Flawless and the new lead singer did an awesome job and can definitely keep up, sounded like they never had line up change so that was cool. Now Static-X, was another Awesome, Great, Epic and the right choice for a Headliner, the machine sure did Rise when Xero came up those steps. Everything sounded good, great interactions with the crowd and it was freaking snowing during the song "Cold" which upped the atmosphere in the venue and made you feel like a certain peace inside that room. Overall that was an amazing show from all the bands and had a fun time, "Cultus Black" was the Highlight of the day, so there is a new Cult to follow for me.
the venue has to put more care on the the people we needed fresh air was hot inside and when we left was cold outside
The pit was crazy the bands were on point and they even mingled with all of us after there set s it was epic
The Belasco is a beautiful Theater and the vibe is incredible...
The music and bands were absolutely awesome but the venue seems to have overdone it on capacity. It was to the point where a lot of us were forced to stand in the merch section to see anything which of course made it difficult for them to sell merch and allow customers to get to them. The after show vip meet also took way too long to begin and we left after an hour of waiting around.
Good experience. Amazing concert. They should cut off alcohol if the person is too drunk
Static X put on a great performance on Saturday at the Belasco Theater. They were very energetic and the crowd was very into the show. All of the support acts put on great sets as well.
I am not one for multiple opening bands because, most of the time, so many of them don't put on a really good show and there is such a drag in time between bands. Not the case here! All of the opening bands were amazing and the show moved along at a good clip. But, the main reason I was there, Static-X, definitely didn't disappoint and went beyond expectations! Their performance was mind blowingly awesome! I was not sure what to expect as I had not seen them since Wayne Static passed away, but the atmosphere/performance was electric! I also love seeing them in smaller venues, especially the HoB, because there is just something about that place that kicks performances up a notch. I do have to say, though, that even though the opening bands were amazing, I would have liked less of them and more Static-X. Great night and like Wayne would have said, LET'S TAKE A SHOT to toast the night and celebrate the good stuff!
This show was packed with talent from beginning to end. Then to make an awesome show amazing and over the top, Xero comes out in full costume and puts on a Las Vegas style show. My 14 year old daughter cried of happiness during the concert. Best feeling as a dad to have made her that happy. Thanks Static X!
Everything was great the performances were great and static x was absolutely killer will hope to see them again the next chance i get
House was packed but all energy was positive. The bands were on fire and it was worth waiting the 2 yrs for!
Ok so first off i required ADA seats as im disabled. The staff assisted me to the long line. And then when the doors open the kind staff Escorted me to my Ada seats I made sure I was OK. They even offered to escort me to the merchandise tables and back and if I needed anything to let them know. Yes i know they were just doing their job but it was the kindness that made my experience a great one. Thank you.
Came to see Fear Factory but all the bands were awesome
Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
All 5 bands, were fantastic!! My suggestion, would be to only have 4 bands. It was a long time there— 5 1/2 hours.
The venue, the service, the sound, the bands, everything was absolutely perfect, thank you so much
I've seen these guys 3 times. 1st was with Wayne Static on the Wisconsin Death Trip tour. Saw the last 2 times with Xero as front man. They put on a really good show, but just a little too scattered of stage effects. I don't have out 5* unless it's the best ever. I'll give them 4/5. Definitely worth seeing live.
I've seen Stats l Static-X 3 times. Once with original lead singer, Wayne Static, and now 2 times with "Xero". Xero's (I think everyone agrees this is Edsel Dope) movements, voice, and other mannerisms are nearly identical to Wayne's. The stage show was pretty good, a little too much flashing lights. Overall 4/5. Still a top-notch program.
