Over three decades and numerous albums, industrial metal scene leaders Static-X are consummate survivors. Even after the untimely death of lead singer Wayne Static in 2014, the group has regenerated and continued to record new music while honoring the late frontman's legacy. Unlike their more straightforward '90s nu-metal counterparts, Static-X were heavily influenced by house music, blending influences like Pantera with the electronic stylings of Prodigy and the Crystal Method to define their sound.
Static-X were originally formed in 1994 after Wayne Static's former band, Deep Blue Dream (featuring a pre-Smashing Pumpkins Billy Corgan), broke up. Along with drummer Ken Jay and guitarist Emerson Swinford, Static relocated from Chicago to Los Angeles and the trio formed a band called DRILL. Swinford left the band and was replaced by Koichi Fukuda, and Static-X was born.
The band's first album came out in 1999 at the height of the nu-metal era. Wisconsin Death Trip contained the singles "Push It," "I'm With Stupid" and "Bled For Days." They played Ozzfest to support the album and released an EP, The Death Trip Continues, the following year.
Fukuda departed Static-X soon after, and in 2001 the band released their sophomore effort: Machine. The following year, Wayne Static's vocals were featured on the Queen Of The Damned: Music From the Motion Picture soundtrack ("Not Meant For Me," written by Korn's Jonathan Davis). Jay left the band shortly after, and in 2003 Static-X's third album, Shadow Zone, was released, featuring "The Only" and "So" as singles. Replacing Jay was former Seether drummer Nick Oshiro.
In 2004, Static-X released Beneath... Between... Beyond..., a collection of rarities and demos. The band released their fourth album, Start A War, in 2005 with "I'm the One" and "Dirthouse" released as singles. In 2007, Static-X shared a fifth album, Cannibal, which had music ("No Submission") featured on the Saw III soundtrack. Also in 2007, the band shared their exclusive Destroyer EP and toured on Ozzfest once more.
In 2009, the band released their fifth album, Cult Of Static. The album single "Lunatic" appeared on the soundtrack to Marvel's Punisher: War Zone. Oshiro left Static-X around this time and was replaced by touring drummer Will Hunt.
By the 2010s, the members of Static-X had split off to concentrate on separate projects, and Static toured with a solo band under the Static-X name. In 2013, the band announced that they were officially breaking up, though Static continued to play the band's material on tour as a solo act. In 2014, Static died at 48 ostensibly due to a long history of substance abuse, though officially his death was termed a natural one.
A few years after Static's death, the former band members reunited and began to parse through old unreleased demos. Composing new songs from that material resulted in Project Regeneration, which came out in two volumes, the first of which dropped in summer 2020. To support the album, the newly reformed Static-X toured with a new, masked frontman named "Xer0," who was rumored to be Edsel Dope of Dope. The band also released a single, "Hollow," which peaked in the Top 15 in the U.S. Dance/Electronic chart.

First time seeing Static X and Dope and they were amazing! The venue is lovely and the staff is always friendly and helpful!
Great theatrics for Static X! Loved the show and the music was amazing. Sevendust was also very entertaining, and both bands mesh well together. The venue is great and had easy accessible food/drinks/ and most importantly bathrooms. Security was perfect and I felt very safe. I would attend again
Amazing concert from Lines Of Loyalty to Static-X! Everyone brung the energy to put on a great show and I wish I could go back and do it all over again! Already planning to see them again next year.
I was of course quite skeptical on how well it would be without Wayne but Xero done such an amazing job! They guys put on an electrifying performance! Soooo much energy and they honored Wayne so powerfully!
Static-X and Sevendust both put on outstanding performances. The crowd was super engaged. The set lists were great. The merchandise booths were stocked nicely and the lines moved quickly.
Everything about this performance was great. The sound, stage presence, song selection, everything.
Awesome show! I was wondering why Static-X was closing the show. Now, I know why! Entertaining! Engaged! Glad I saw them.
I was excited to see Sevendust . Unfortunately the sound was horrible and I was literally above the stage . The show itself was high energy and they brought it but the sound let me down.
Static-X was amazing as always , they really bring the energy and Rock the house.
We just saw StaticX and Dope in March and they killed it again and maybe even better this time. Of course, Sevendust is my favorite and they didn't disappoint. It was an amazing show and we got to meet Tony after the show. Do not be late!!! Line of Loyalty is an amazing band and definitely worth getting there early!! We met them as well and they are great guys!!
Fantastic show at the best venue. Sevendust killed it.
Another awesome show that proves metal is alive and well.
Event staff was amazing, great sound and great performance!
I was late getting to the show due to technical difficulties but made it time to see Sevendust. They came out and took over! I was amazed at the punch that they exhibited. I have been a fan for years and have only recently been able to see them. Last year, they did the Animosity album live and while it was a great show, it was nothing compared to Strong Arm Broken and Splinter live. I wish I hadn't waited so long to see them. Amazing energy and a great setlist. The sound mix wasn't the best but they also weren't the headliner, which I don't know why they weren't.
The sound guys had WAY too much bass! The bass guitar should complement the rest of the bands...not be the star. You could barely hear the vocals or guitars. We ended up leaving before Static-X even took the stage because it was that bad.
mt daughter loved it ,her first time being able to be up front and experience all the energy of the crowd, the crowd surfing the great view of the bands, loved every minute of it
Static xwas OK lights and all but we need more sevendust they were awesome sevendust should have been headliner
Had a great time at this show. All the bands were energetic and put on a great show. Enjoyed it so much I am taking my son to the show in Orlando.
One of the best shows! Had a great time and loved static x
Entry into the venue was a breeze, no issues. Looks like Ace of Spades made it better! Did not feel over packed, but maybe that’s because it was moved to a Monday. Performance was great. The opener was entertaining, especially when the singer fell off the stage.
