Over three decades and numerous albums, industrial metal scene leaders Static-X are consummate survivors. Even after the untimely death of lead singer Wayne Static in 2014, the group has regenerated and continued to record new music while honoring the late frontman's legacy. Unlike their more straightforward '90s nu-metal counterparts, Static-X were heavily influenced by house music, blending influences like Pantera with the electronic stylings of Prodigy and the Crystal Method to define their sound.
Static-X were originally formed in 1994 after Wayne Static's former band, Deep Blue Dream (featuring a pre-Smashing Pumpkins Billy Corgan), broke up. Along with drummer Ken Jay and guitarist Emerson Swinford, Static relocated from Chicago to Los Angeles and the trio formed a band called DRILL. Swinford left the band and was replaced by Koichi Fukuda, and Static-X was born.
The band's first album came out in 1999 at the height of the nu-metal era. Wisconsin Death Trip contained the singles "Push It," "I'm With Stupid" and "Bled For Days." They played Ozzfest to support the album and released an EP, The Death Trip Continues, the following year.
Fukuda departed Static-X soon after, and in 2001 the band released their sophomore effort: Machine. The following year, Wayne Static's vocals were featured on the Queen Of The Damned: Music From the Motion Picture soundtrack ("Not Meant For Me," written by Korn's Jonathan Davis). Jay left the band shortly after, and in 2003 Static-X's third album, Shadow Zone, was released, featuring "The Only" and "So" as singles. Replacing Jay was former Seether drummer Nick Oshiro.
In 2004, Static-X released Beneath... Between... Beyond..., a collection of rarities and demos. The band released their fourth album, Start A War, in 2005 with "I'm the One" and "Dirthouse" released as singles. In 2007, Static-X shared a fifth album, Cannibal, which had music ("No Submission") featured on the Saw III soundtrack. Also in 2007, the band shared their exclusive Destroyer EP and toured on Ozzfest once more.
In 2009, the band released their fifth album, Cult Of Static. The album single "Lunatic" appeared on the soundtrack to Marvel's Punisher: War Zone. Oshiro left Static-X around this time and was replaced by touring drummer Will Hunt.
By the 2010s, the members of Static-X had split off to concentrate on separate projects, and Static toured with a solo band under the Static-X name. In 2013, the band announced that they were officially breaking up, though Static continued to play the band's material on tour as a solo act. In 2014, Static died at 48 ostensibly due to a long history of substance abuse, though officially his death was termed a natural one.
A few years after Static's death, the former band members reunited and began to parse through old unreleased demos. Composing new songs from that material resulted in Project Regeneration, which came out in two volumes, the first of which dropped in summer 2020. To support the album, the newly reformed Static-X toured with a new, masked frontman named "Xer0," who was rumored to be Edsel Dope of Dope. The band also released a single, "Hollow," which peaked in the Top 15 in the U.S. Dance/Electronic chart.

Static-X had a fun stage setup and sounded pretty good. Like all of the recent tours it was a celebration of Wayne and his artistry in the best way possible. Sevendust was great but the vocals were a bit muted, maybe a technical issue with wireless mics.

As per usual Static-X was great and sounded great. The sound for Sevendust wasn't very good, you could barely hear the vocals over the extremely distorted sounding instruments.
The venue did a terrible job with how to handle VIP ticket holders . We didn’t really get the early entry as shown in the ticket for static X . While the vase en dust fans were let in . Seems to be a lot of confusion on the part of the people running the event and security . None the less the bands were all fantastic except the sound for the opener and dope was not quite right . Couldn’t hear the guitar and the vocals were low as well . This venue had the feel that they don’t do many concerts .
The lineup was great. The location had plenty of room and reasonable parking nearby. 10/10 would recommend the lineup and the location.
Dope was good, missed the first bands show. Sevendust destroyed it! The reincarnation of staticx is an homage, excellent show.
Purchases tickets and meet and greet for Sevendust. That experience was awesome. Made it thru the first 2 bands and 4 songs into Sevendusts set when my daughter got kicked in the face, by a crowd surfer. End of concert for us. Ended up leaving.
The Fillmore in Silver Springs Md was an excellent venue from security staff , bartenders and fans , everything ran smooth. Static X killed it even with some technical difficulties with their video. Sevendust was incredible as well. If you can catch this tour don't miss it. Plenty of hotels near by in walking distance and several parking garages.
This was hands down the best show I’ve ever seen. The only disappointing part was that Wayne Static wasn’t there but Xer0 still did a phenomenal job. The Fillmore was an amazing venue. Everything about this show was legendary. I can’t wait to go back to see Tech N9ne next month.
Dope only had 22min stage time. I totally understand he needs to save his voice for the man act. But COME ON man. Tech difficulties are a thing don't be a cry baby about it and try and cut it short. Appreciated the redo on the one. Regardless SEVENDUST!!!! Hopefully some redemption on the next leg of the tour. See ya in Pittsburgh!
Awesome show… great venue…staff was excellent…one of the better shows I’ve seen this year and STATIC-X rules and I had VIP which was awesome and the members of Static X were super cool and nice…Thanks again to the staff and the bands
I've been a fan of Static-X since the beginning, when I was still in High School back in 1999. I never got to a chance to see the band while Wayne was alive. This was an amazing tribute and a great way to live out the dream of seeing this band live. The stage show is on point, sounded great and full of great visuals. The supporting acts were fantastic as well. Sevendust, Dope, and Lines of Loyalty brought some epic riffs and rocked the house.
Everything was a great experience from the staff, venue, and the bands!
It brought me so much joy to hear songs I love live. I don't go to a lot of concerts and this was a great experience to have with friends. I was even better that I was very familiar with 3 of the 4 bands and was introduced to a new band I can look into.
All the bands were excellent. Mosh pit was banging. Crowd surfing was excellent. Small venues give you the best.
It was great. The music. The show. The tribute to Wayne. Couldn’t have asked for more.
