So exciting to see such talent in person!
by Mimififi on 5/13/22PPG Paints Arena - PittsburghRating: 5 out of 5I attended the Mother's Day show that was held at the PPG Arena in Pittsburgh, PA. When I heard that Nathan Chen was going to be part of the Stars on Ice Tour, I wanted to make sure I had an opportunity to see him in person, since I have been following him since he won his first national championship as a senior. After watching all the other skaters at the Olympics, however, I was equally excited about the lineup of stars that would be performing. I splurged for ice seats and did the meet and greet, and everything on the Stars on Ice side of things was fantastic! I attended with one of my adult daughters, so it was a special way to celebrate Mother's Day. The PPG Arena, on the other hand, disappointed. I don't understand why the arenas cannot honor the photography policy of the tour itself. I read through all the requirements on the Stars on Ice tour website and that played into me buying seats on the ice. I knew my camera equipment (no flash, removable lens less than 70 mm) would meet the policy you set, but when I brought it in to the arena, they told me it wasn't allowed because the lens was fractionally longer than 3" and they made me check my camera. So, I didn't have it for the show OR for the meet and greet. My phone camera is not at all good, so it was a huge disappointment to me that I paid all that money, and came away with really bad images. It really put a damper on what I was hoping would be a phenomenal day. (I also had to get a hotel room for the night because I live over 3 hours away). As far as the show itself was concerned, I REALLY enjoyed the ensemble performances. The solo performances based on the Olympic routines were also quite exciting to watch. SO much talent all in one place - the two hours went by so quickly and both my daughter and I were sad to see it end. The skaters are wonderful people as well - everyone seemed so personable, humble and appreciative of their fans. Wish we could have gotten photos without masks, but that's better than not being able to meet them in person at all! Thanks for putting on a great show!
