Endearing, ingenuous, lovely
by Robert Graboyes on 6/29/25Birchmere - AlexandriaRating: 5 out of 5I discovered Stacey Kent around 8 years ago and have loved her music ever since. But her stage presence was unlike anything I expected. Somehow, I anticipated a cool and elusive performer. Instead, she was impossibly warm and endearing, with an air of utter innocence and enthusiasm. You got the impression that she was simply delighted to be on the stage and in your presence. She spoke repeatedly of her collaboration with Kazuo Ishiguro, and gave the impression of being utterly thrilled to have had the chance to work with such a literary figure. That said, she and her group were tight, precise, and at the top of their game, performance-wise. Add to it that the Birchmere was really a lovely venue for the event.
