About

ST. VINCENT IN CONCERT:

Possessing a rare combination of art-school appeal and mainstream accessibility, St. Vincent's Annie Clark is well on her way to full blown pop stardom. From her collaborations with David Byrne and Sufjan Stevens to her acclaimed work as St. Vincent, Clark has demonstrated an unbridled creativity and commitment to pop experimentation, making her a favorite with fans and critics alike. Her recordings may be stunning, but it's her talents as a performer that really make Clark stand out — taking the stage in an architectural gown, Clark's otherworldly movements and ethereal vocals are the stuff of legend, making her 2014 tour dates a must for any fan of true avant-pop spectacle.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Born in Oklahoma, Annie Clark, a.k.a. St. Vincent, took up the guitar at age 12, going on to play in her high school's jazz band as a teenager. After spending three years at Boston's Berklee College of Music in the early '00s, Clark dropped out to pursue real-world musical experience, joining the Polyphonic Spree for their European tour. In 2006, she left the band to join Sufjan Steven's touring band, beginning to record as St. Vincent the same year. Her 2007 debut album  Marry Me received praise for its intricate arrangements and unexpected compositional twists, paving the way for the success of 2009 sophomore effort Actor, a Top 10 hit on Billboard's Independent Albums Chart. With the early-2014 release of her fifth album, Clark once again drew unilateral praise from critics, cracking the Top 20 of the Billboard 200 and embarking on an international headlining tour.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

" Even better live than on her albums, St. Vincent lit up the Fox. It was an awesome mashup reminiscent of Bowie, Mercury and Gaga. I loved it, and will be back for more."

"Gorgeous songs, surprising choreography, enchanted excitement. I urge anyone who loves sophisticated pop to see this show."

"Yes, yes, yes, and yes! Great playing, awesome sound, killer production aesthetics and an overall great SHOW. St. Vincent and her band are kicking butt and taking names."

  • The Year of St. V = THE show to see!

by mucha on 10/27/14Newport Music Hall - ColumbusRating: 5 out of 5

An awesome show supports excellent album. St. Vincent, always a rocking concert. Never disappoints. Although "I prefer" her dark ("Jesus"-like) hair to whatever it is now, I applaud Annie for adding a bit more theatre to her shows this time around. A simple staired pedestal provided a prop to climb, sing from, lay on, and crawl over. A little choreography in the form of hand and arm movements with her studded-stepped-gliding up and down the stage, co-ordinated with dance moves from her keyboardist/guitarist/vocalist/everything-ist in a hot LBD, made for a fantastically fun show. There was still plenty of free form jamming, and wild stage rolling crazy-ness for a great St. V show. The extras just made it extra awesome. Go see her...........

  • St. Vincent Shines on the Digital Witness Tour!!!

by giganticseacow on 10/10/14The Fillmore Miami Beach at Jackie Gleason Theater - MiamiRating: 5 out of 5

St. Vincent was incredible live!! An incredibly prolific songwriter and performer, she was very full of energy and incredibly skilled at playing guitar live. Embracing a David Bowieish phase (possibly influenced by the David Byrne collab as well), St. Vincent brings out a lot of interesting and clever tricks and antics for the Digital Witness Tour, including some fun choreography for certain songs. At times some of the symbolic monologues were lost in translation among audience members (maybe that sense of WTF was intentional?) but it was still a fun and interesting experiment to see what this new phase/persona of St. Vincent embraces. The new songs were adapted live incredibly well, as well as including favorites from Strange Mercy and Marry Me. Overall it was a great experience!! A must see for anyone that is a fan and especially wants to experience a new and experimental St. Vincent.

Not a dull moment at this show. Man, can this girl shred a guitar. Awesome stage performance. I had to stop myself from watching youtube videos before the show because i was obsessed. She still blew my mind.

  • St. Vincent killed it!

A beautiful immersion of sight and sound. Annie Clark is an amazing guitarist, singer, composer, and just a bit quirky. So satisfying to hear such stunning vocals that don't come from studio trickery. Well worth the three hour trip to get there!

  • Fun and quirky evening

I have just recently been introduced to St. Vincent. The show was in a realtively small mostly standing only venue. Being 63 I was able to find a few places to sit for a while. I was frequently roused to my feet because of interesting beats or visual effects. St. Vincent is a consumate pro. Often channeling Price while doing guitat changes. Most songs were familiar so must have been from her two most recent albums. I went to the show out of curiousity and left a true fan!

The last time I saw St Vincent was at the Moody Theater in Austin for ACL Live. It was, without a doubt, one of the most memorable concerts I've ever been to. She was so spot on key with vocals, was concentrating intently on her guitar playing, and had good interaction and storytelling with the audience about her music. Something happened. Her hair got bleached. She had a Lady Gaga dress on. She did silly robot arm dances and mild choreography. Rolling around on steps. What. The. Hell? If I wanted to see Lady Gaga, I'd have signed up for some crappy pop music and bodily fluid meat dress for that show. I wanted the St Vincent I knew and liked for her ability to write and perform amazing songs. The focus was lost, and I lost interest in watching the music. I didn't stay until the last song, or the encore. Also, the venue is pretty decent - nice stage and pretty good acoustics. Not the best beer selection, but not the worst. Its a good size, and much preferred over a huge arena. However, they refused to check men's bags and were just not admitting people in. An amazingly sexist policy, as plenty of women were allowed to enter with the same sized bags. I've never been treated like a criminal like that in Austin (where they know a little something about live music). This policy has to change.

Great show. Amazing sound, musicianship, choreography and of course music. Wish she would come to FLA soon.

  • St. Vincent is a born performer!

St. Vincent was amazing!. She has no pretensions or arrogance. She knows how to entertain. She is a gifted guitar player who plays with passion. One of the best shows ever.

What a musician! Both St. Vincent and her opening act, Noveller, were astonishing! Simply wonderful show :)

  • St. Vincent was brilliant

Innovative guitar mastery meets musicality that not only humans delight upon. The most talented rock chick since Crissie Hynde melted with Annie Lennox and Blondie.

  • She's an Alien

by Rastamonsta on 4/6/14State Theatre - MinneapolisRating: 5 out of 5

The theatrical movements paired with strob lights galore took the State to the future. I'm so impressed with this performance, true talent still exists! The song Surgeon was freakin stellar, I can't get that image out of my mind. Plus, there was a nice suggestion to put down your phone's and cameras and actually experience the live moment. I think I'm in love.

Unbelievable performance! Incredible show by a super talented musician.

  • GO SEE ST. VINCENT

by Gennevieve on 4/6/14State Theatre - MinneapolisRating: 5 out of 5

St. Vincent's performance was AMAZING! Not only does she do a lot with the lights and dances, but she brings a whole other art to the stage. She hits every note perfectly and plays her crazy guitar solos like its the easiest thing in the world. In my opinion, everyone who even remotely likes St. Vincent should see her someday-- you'll never regret it and come out of the concert loving her more than you did before!

  • Awesome show.

INCREDIBLE show. Annie and the band were on. Great setlist. I love the new album and the artsy direction she has gone in. I'm hoping to catch her again on this tour.

  • Fabulous

by killowatt on 4/3/14Liberty Hall - LawrenceRating: 5 out of 5

Opening for St. Vincent was Noveller and she was out of this world, music channelled from the outer planets! St. Vincent and her band amazed and thrilled as promised! Rocked out with great artistic appeal, lyrics, and beloved electric guitar riffs...reminiscent of the 70' and 80's, yet all brand new. Excellent concert! Don't miss it!

  • Best show from her!

by listenupsucka on 3/27/14Fox Theater - Oakland - OaklandRating: 5 out of 5

This was the most polished show I've seen from her. It was like a production. She sounded great, looked great, and was fun. Excellent encore. I left feeling more than satisfied. I've seen her live after her first release and then again after Strange Mercy (at the Fox too). This was my favorite show.
