Squeeze, led by the songwriting duo of Chris Difford and Glenn Tilbrook, produced some of the catchiest songs from the ‘70s British new wave scene. The band’s 1978 self-titled debut and follow-up albums Cool for Cats (1979) and Argybargy (1980) produced a number of hits in the U.K., with a few receiving airplay on U.S. college radio, including “Take Me I'm Yours,” “Up the Junction” and the bouncy “Pulling Mussels (From the Shell).” In 1981, Squeeze released their fourth studio album East Side Story, featuring “Tempted.” The song went on to become one of the band’s most famous songs. It has been featured in movies, TV shows, video games and commercials.

The entire concert from beginning to end was amazing! We were transported back to the 80's and loving every moment of it!
I recently went to see two excellent bands playing at Massey Hall and I came away feeling very disappointed. The seats were extremely expensive and when I got to my seat it was the most uncomfortable theatre experience I have ever had. The seats were extremely narrow and there was very minimal leg room. I’m 5’5”, and my knees were jammed into the seats in front of me. The bands I came to see were pop bands and I had anticipated dancing to several songs, but due to how narrow the leg room was and how steep the rows of seats were, I felt unsafe standing up. Another reason why this venue was terrible was the sound. The English Beat were the openers, and I could barely hear Dave Wakeling whose voice is the heart of the music. The other instruments didn’t seem to be mixed well and the end result was unrecognizable songs. Squeeze who came on second- the sound seemed a little better but IMO not mixed properly. Too much treble and not enough base.
A great show filled with great vibes and superior musicianship!
We had a great time at this show. The opening band was great and really got the crowd on their feet. Squeeze did not disappoint either. Played lots of favorite hits and samples from two new ambums coming out. Can’t wait to check those out more. Devis is a great venue, except for drink prices. It was great to see squeeze again!
Squeeze was great as were The English Beat. It would have been a five-star show if not for the crowd. The number of people talking loudly around us was such a drag. We had to ask two ladies next to us to kindly shut up because their conversation was so loud. Another woman behind us actually took a phone call. So many others were on their phones, not taking video or pictures, but surfing social media and emails. It was all so disappointing and took away from the experience. We got tix late and they were in the back of the balcony so maybe that had something to do with it. I'll be back, but I'll pony up a little extra cash to avoid the balcony.
The band sounded amazing and played all the hits! They clearly still have it, can still sing and play!! Addition of some youngsters helped and injected even more energy. Had they had another night in Michigan I would see them again. Drummer was skilled, great intensity. The addition of a slide guitarist and Percussionist just added to the audio and visual experience ! Can't say enough good things about this band and performance!
Squeeze was spot on, played all the favorites with lots of energy. Acoustics of The DeVos Place enhanced the experience more. Great show!!
Although Squeeze was awesome, the sound level was too LOUD. Who thought that being loud would make for a better concert experience? The next concert I attend at MGM Northfield, I will bring ear plugs.
Squeeze did not disappoint! It was like I was put in a Time Machine back to my freshman year at U of M in the South Quad dorm with the guys from Taylor on Wine & Cheese Wednesday Night- except no box wine or Boursin & Ritz crackers. They sounded fantastic and was great to see them live after all this time. Played all the songs we know and love plus gave us a couple peeks into new releases. Only complaint was the volume in the Loge-level seating; we were level with the giant speakers on either side of the stage and certain songs were extremely loud and somewhat distorted for us- will keep that in mind for any future ticket purchases. Had a great time!
Squeeze was great. Band was in top form, very entertaining and Glenn TIlbrook sounded great. great venue. easy access and parking. on time performances and good sound system.
What an amazing show!!!!!! They were so great to see and can’t wait for them to come back
For years I’ve wanted to see Squeeze live. The song writing of Gifford and Tillbrook is legendary. Those of us from 50-70 HAD to have the “Squeeze - Singles” album to put on for parties. So, the concert was AMAZING! These guys are like 70 or something. They had more energy than 20 year olds. Instead of the 6 worst words to hear at a concert (“here’s something from our new album”) they played every hit and mixed in a couple good new songs. The musicianship was amazing. The two percussionists kept the middle aged crowd standing and dancing. The dual uniquely Squeeze high - low vocals were awesome. It was the best concert I’ve seen in years! Who knows how long these guys will tour. SEE THEM, this tour!
Chris Difford, Glenn Till brook and their band mates are living their best lives! They appeared to be really enjoying themselves and it shined through in the performance. Not only do they still have, I think they sound even better than they did when I saw them back in the 80’s. I really wasn’t expecting them to be this good! I’d go see them again if I had the chance. Must see for Squeeze fans
Squeeze was better then ever, but TickeyMaster must go!
I forgot just how good their music really was, and now still is...the sound was fantastic! The night went fast and brought me back to my mid-80's college days. Quality show-the band was having as much fun as we were!
English Beat opened, and they are always good, but it was a really short set. Very long pause between bands. Squeeze was incredible! They played every song you'd want to hear as a fan and they were amazingly TIGHT! Not a sour note or out of time beat! Such a great show and I'm so happy I decided to get myself a ticket.
These guys sounded great live! I loved that they opened with one of my favorite songs that I wasn't sure they could do live. The music and the vocals sounded really good and they sang ALL of my favorites plus a few I haven't heard before that I liked. They switched up "Tempted"a little and we both loved how they did it. I've never heard a louder singing audience, or one who knew as much lyrics as this crowd did. It made for a memorable night.
Been a big fan since the early 80’s - owning many of their original albums. However, this was the first time to see them perform. I was very surprised by the big production and affects, with eight people onstage, a lot of smoke and lights. They were also painfully loud. Their playlist was almost exclusively focused on their well-known hits. While I really do enjoy those hits, I would have also liked to have heard their lesser-known hard-hitting rock songs (eg Footprints, I think I’m a go go, Messed Around…). They are truly an incredible band. However, they didn’t need to shock and awe with the big stage production, and cater to just the fans that only know them from their greatest hits album. Based on what I’ve see on YouTube, they used to play a more balanced, simplified rock band show. I wish they had delivered more that type of show.
Good performance, but the vocals were muddy in the sound mix. VERY disappointed that they didn't play an encore!
Phenomenal concert- Squeeze somehow just gets better with age. Saw them in 1985 and twice this year. They played all their hits and thrilled the audience. Their musicianship is jaw dropping; rocking their thrilling solos. They reinvented “goodbye girl” with a country twist and it’s awesome. We danced the whole show. I hope Squeeze knows how much they truly delighted everyone tonight.
