About

Squeeze, led by the songwriting duo of Chris Difford and Glenn Tilbrook, produced some of the catchiest songs from the ‘70s British new wave scene. The band’s 1978 self-titled debut and follow-up albums Cool for Cats (1979) and Argybargy (1980) produced a number of hits in the U.K., with a few receiving airplay on U.S. college radio, including “Take Me I'm Yours,” “Up the Junction” and the bouncy “Pulling Mussels (From the Shell).” In 1981, Squeeze released their fourth studio album East Side Story, featuring “Tempted.” The song went on to become one of the band’s most famous songs. It has been featured in movies, TV shows, video games and commercials.

  • Squeeze, The English Beat was fantastic!

by merbrat on 7/26/10Ogden Theatre - DenverRating: 5 out of 5

The Ogden is by far one of the better venues in Denver. The acoustics are so much better. The English Beat opened for Squeeze and while I did not detect any new music, they really had the crowd moving. After all this time, they sound absolutely fantastic, just as they did in the 80's. Squeeze put on a great performance, mixing in some of the old and some of the new. Their music ranges widely so there is something there for everyone to please. All in all, a great performance!

  • Satisfying Concert

by FineFrenze on 7/26/10Ogden Theatre - DenverRating: 4 out of 5

The show was very good. There were a few slow spots here and there when the boys played some of their solo stuff . Mostly though the old stuff sounded great and it was gratifying to see the band back together. The English Beat was a ska-fueled romp through the best of the era. They almost outshone the headliner and got the crowd jumping. OIY! The Ogden's sound system was its usual muddy mess and it was difficult to hear Glen's singing. For some perplexing reason, the Ogden management did not turn on the floor fans and it was a sweltering night fr performers and patrons alike. Seriously, when I pay this kind of price for a ticket, the slight comfort of not sweating like I was outside in the sun was merited.

my only wish was that The English Beat would have played longer

  • Squeeze and English Beat....Magical

by Anonymous on 7/24/10Minnesota Zoo Amphitheater - Apple ValleyRating: 5 out of 5

Both sounded as good as they did in the 80's. Saw Squeeze at Berkley in '85. They were just as amazing. This time it was with my kids. I think they understand now why I loved the 80's/New wave sound. Squeeze will always be at the top of my list. They proved it Thursday night. English Beat were fun. Sounded clean and great interaction with the crowd. Great personalities!

  • Two 80s classics in top form

by jmy9595 on 7/24/10Minnesota Zoo Amphitheater - Apple ValleyRating: 5 out of 5

The current lineups of Squeeze and the English Beat are amazing. Why Squeeze aren't in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame yet is a mystery....what an amazing catalogue and Difford and Tilbrook could be in as songwriters alone.

  • Squeeze top notch, English Beat, not so much

by Virgie63 on 7/24/10Minnesota Zoo Amphitheater - Apple ValleyRating: 4 out of 5

The English Beat Kept me from giving this concert a 5 star. Dave Wakeling is the only original member, and seems like they/he are just going through the motions. Saw them twice in their hey day with the original group---THAT was a fantastic show(s) Squeeze was dead on. Excellent/strong vocals, harmonies. great mix, great venue.Set list was fantastic, but I can not remember it. Overall, even with The English Beat--WELL WORTH IT!!!!!!!!!!

  • Squeeze at their BEST!

by champ31 on 7/23/10Minnesota Zoo Amphitheater - Apple ValleyRating: 4 out of 5

54 year old Dad takes 21 year old son to see Squeeze. Dad says you gotta see these guys. Both Dad and son had a blast. Squeeze was at their best! I have seen Squeeze 4 times, Tillbrook & The Fluffers another 2 times. My wife and I seen Squeeze and Cheap Trick about ten days ago at Ravina, IL. The English Beat was a much better group to pair up with Squeeze. Squeeze's first show in a zoo was a great success. Hope they return soon.

  • One of the very best concerts I have EVER seen!

by ShowBiz4U on 7/23/10Minnesota Zoo Amphitheater - Apple ValleyRating: 5 out of 5

I have been a fan of Squeeze for nearly 30 years. Seeing them live last night was incredible. They sounded wonderful and their voices & Instrumentals were spot on to the recordings from the early 80's - for those wondering- no they did NOT lip sync. I have already recommended to three friends (out of state) to check to see if Squeeze is coming within 200 miles of them and to not miss them if at all possible. I hope they return again soon, I will go anytime they are in Minnesota. The English Beat was excellent as well, but squeeze - AMAZING !!!!

  • Great show! Worth the money for sure!

by MplsGirl10 on 7/23/10Minnesota Zoo Amphitheater - Apple ValleyRating: 4 out of 5

First time I've seen The English Beat. So much fun! And Squeeze is just amazing. If you're a Squeeze fan, I cannot recommend seeing their show highly enough. Lots of singles and a few newer songs in the mix. Great show!

  • Fun concert!

by SteveRosemount on 7/23/10Minnesota Zoo Amphitheater - Apple ValleyRating: 4 out of 5

I've always liked Squeeze. They're not a band that you can pigeonhole into a particular era, because they just don't sound like anyone else. Glenn Tillbrook and Chris Difford are masters of tightly crafted pop hooks - a lost art in music these days. Their songs are catchy, plain and simple. While they didn't really do anything mind blowing, the concert was a success for a couple of reasons. First, it's in the zoo, and how can you not like that? Second, although they have a new album coming out and the purpose of their tour is to promote that album, they kept the new songs to a minimum (2 or 3, I think), instead choosing to focus on material people were familiar with and wanted to hear. Also, rather than relegating the two newest (and non-original) band members to a background role, they instead featured them in several spots. Last, and perhaps most importantly, these guys looked like they were truly having a good time. I was also surprised by the number of people in the audience who actually knew every word to their songs - even the more obscure numbers. There were a couple of points in the show where Tilbrook turned the mic toward the crowd. The crowd played along and didn't miss a beat. All in all, it was an enjoyable evening.

  • I Quite Like Squeeze

by mplsalf on 7/23/10Minnesota Zoo Amphitheater - Apple ValleyRating: 4 out of 5

I had forgotten how many Squeeze songs I really like, and they sounded great. No complaints on English Beat either- they are an annual favorite at the Cabooze and the Zoo is a great venue for them as well.

  • Don't Miss It

by kiltiecoldbum on 7/23/10Minnesota Zoo Amphitheater - Apple ValleyRating: 5 out of 5

What a great show in a perfect venue on a great night! To be honest, I had forgotten about all the great songsSqueeze had brought to us over the Years and what great songwriters Chris Difford and Glenn Tilbrook are. Last night brought a ton of memories back as the band tore into their back catalogue as well as a smattering of songs from their new album. It was a fabulous show - great musicanship and really entertaining. The crowd loved it.

  • WOW!

by JandAM on 7/23/10Minnesota Zoo Amphitheater - Apple ValleyRating: 5 out of 5

Two fabulous bands at one venue, a beautiful night, and a gorgeous setting, what a great way to spend a Thursday night. Both bands were incredible, we felt like we were 18 again. More events like this one please!

  • Cheap Trick, Best American Rock Band

by MissTomorrow on 7/22/10Bank of America Pavilion - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

Cheap Trick is, without question, the best live band out there today. One of the few bands that sounds BETTER live than in the studio. Cheap Trick should be slowing down and showing cracks after 36 years and they are not. Don't miss a note. Don't miss a beat. More than worth the price of admission.

  • Squeeze and Cheap Trick were incredible!

by JillybeanNY on 7/19/10Radio City Music Hall - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

This was one of the best concerts ever! Cheap Trick sounded awesome and did all the songs I remember. Squeeze was amazing and played all their hits, as well as a few new songs.

  • Squeeze should have been the opener!

by theMC7764 on 7/19/10Bank of America Pavillion - BostonRating: 4 out of 5

Squeeze is ok, but more of a 'chick' draw....Cheap Trick rocked the place! Could have listened to them all nite. Many started to leave when Squeeze came on...a good time for a pee and another beer (or just beat the traffic out).

  • Did the show have a soundguy?

by venusmoon on 7/19/10Radio City Music Hall - New YorkRating: 3 out of 5

come on, really! cheap trick opened for squeeze! i think it should have been the other way around, considering cheap trick has been touring for more than thirty years! no one wants to get blasted out of the club by unprofessional sound mixes during the first band, while you could barely hear the second (main act, squeeze) band

  • Cheap Trick forever

by TrickFan1 on 7/17/10Radio City Music Hall - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

I was so thrilled that this was a co-headlining show - Cheap Trick were amazing! The set was longer than I anticipated and their setlist did not disappoint. Miss Bun E. but they rocked!

  • Cheap Trick and Squeeze rocked

by kvnhck on 7/17/10Radio City Music Hall - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Everybody who loves music and appreciates rock/new wave will absolutely love this concert. Each band was at the top of their game. The song selection was dead on.

  • Do not miss Squeeze!

by scottystillrocks on 7/16/10Bank of America Pavilion - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

My rating applies to the Squeeze portion of the show. Cheap Trick was OK, but I was unhappy with a few things: 1) Strobe lights set on top of speaker cabs flashing repeatedly in my face (I'm all for creative lighting, but this was wicked annoying). 2) Bun E.'s not there. 3) high volume and a great keyboard player who also can sing the lead part are often used to mask certain shortfalls, and that's what was happening here. 4) I've seldom heard as many just plain bad notes. They're either rusty or fading.... 5) They didn't appear to be having any fun! Squeeze on the other hand far exceeded my wildest recollections and expectations. If this band were any tighter, the wine glasses in the VIP section would have been exploding from the shear spot-on convergence of sounds. Tilbrook never sang or played better (flawless and effortless on guitar and vocals) -- even 25 years ago. I always loved the octave harmonies, and Difford and Tilbrook sounded incredible live. The band was obviously into it and that made the show so much better. Can't say enough about Difford and Tilbrook's selection of rythm section for this tour. Bentley, Large, and Hanson were all amazing. Simon Hanson was just a wonder and a treat to watch and listen to on drums. Expect to hear all of "The Singles" album and a couple of extra treats. If, like me, you've been separated from Squeeze for a bunch of years, this show will take you back and make you wonder why you haven't made time to listen to them all along. I will never miss this band in concert again. Don't you miss them this time!
