About

Squeeze, led by the songwriting duo of Chris Difford and Glenn Tilbrook, produced some of the catchiest songs from the ‘70s British new wave scene. The band’s 1978 self-titled debut and follow-up albums Cool for Cats (1979) and Argybargy (1980) produced a number of hits in the U.K., with a few receiving airplay on U.S. college radio, including “Take Me I'm Yours,” “Up the Junction” and the bouncy “Pulling Mussels (From the Shell).” In 1981, Squeeze released their fourth studio album East Side Story, featuring “Tempted.” The song went on to become one of the band’s most famous songs. It has been featured in movies, TV shows, video games and commercials.

  • They Will NOT Age Gracefully

by jammin621 on 7/16/10Bank of America Pavilion - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

1st time seeing both bands -- I know, what kept me??? Initially I thought the pairing was somewhat odd even though both bands can be termed 'power pop'. Cheap Trick came on first and were fabulous. They totally delivered, putting on a great show. Loved how they cared enough to still dress oh so cool! Seats were in 4th row, center, I was totally immersed in their every move. Robyn's voice remains spot on. I must order some of their older stuff from iTunes. Knowing Squeeze was up next was a bonus after getting so charged up by CT. Squeeze also played great, though I would have loved hearing Glenn with a bit more volume - such a great voice. So many great tunes... The crowd was happy and appeared satisfied -- I believe both bands enjoyed themselves as well. I am always so appreciate to hear great live music -- my thanks to such great musicians!!!

  • Squeeze great, sound mixer not so great

by MobySquish on 7/16/10Radio City Music Hall - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

Great to see almost the entire band lineup from Argy Bargy back together again (didn't expect to see Jools) Tillbrook, as always, amazed. Difford seemed a bit uncomfortable but then again doesn't he always? Nice on "Cool For Cats" though. Really happy to hear "Hope Fell Down". Now about the sound mixer-for Cheap Trick the bass and drums were mixed so loud that they drowned out everything else (Rick needed to turn his guitar up). When Squeeze took the stage, the sound guy actually turned the bass UP, to the point where my wife and I thought it was going to punch a hole through our chests. Somebody fire this guy and quickly! Took four songs before he realized his mistake. We were sitting in 1st mezzanine and I checked 2nd mezzanine and sounded same up there. Not sure how it was in orchestra. Maybe its a Radio City Music Hall acoustical problem but doubt it. Cheap Trick were ok. Saw them earlier in the year and they were amazing, doing a lot of material from their terrific new album. For the Squeeze show they seemed not to realize who their audience was-they wanted to hear the hits plus the pop tunes. Instead Nielsen and company gave the audience a few hits, a bunch of obscurities and everything was hard rock. Missed a great chance to increase their fan base. Overall, loved Squeeze, even if I've heard the hits ten times before. Sorry that their new album is just a rehash of the hits rather than new material.

  • Radio City Rocks

by RockerForever on 7/15/10Radio City Music Hall - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Cheap Trick came out and played one hard rocking hour of music, played their hits, the secondary songs had great guitar and instrumental solos which had the crowd jumping around, along with some minor head banging here and there. The lead singers voice still sounded like the Budokon Album. Squeeze played all their hits, I forgot how good they were, the band was tight, Difford and Tillbrook harmonized like it was 1988 again. Their voices sounded great. Tilllbrooks guitar playing was Claptonesque at times, he's very talented.

  • Squeeze was great!

by DRACGirl on 7/15/10Bank of America Pavilion - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

We saw Squeeze and Cheap Trick at the B of A Pavilion in Boston....I had never been there but was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to find our seats and how great the seats were...there did not seem to be a bad seat in the house. Cheap Trick opened...they are a great band and the songs that we knew sounded fabulous! Unfortunately, the other songs were not so hot, kind or dark and negative....a little disappointing but still fun... then it was time for Squeeze.....they were awesome.....two of their songs even sounded better than they do on the CD.....everyone was dancing all evening to tunes they knew by heart....I would highly recommend to anyone to go see Squeeze if they are interested in having a fun, unbeat night out with friends.

  • great bands, poor sound

by paulny on 7/15/10Radio City Music Hall - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

Loved the show, two of my favorite bands. However, the bass was amazingly heavy and at times was annoying and did take away from the rest of the music. Don't know if that's the groups' preference of the sound guys, but beyond that I wish they had both played longer.

  • Solid Squeeze performance

by 6060842 on 7/15/10Bank of America Pavilion - BostonRating: 4 out of 5

Many ages were present for the 7-14-10 Cheap Trick/Squeeze show. Cheap Trick performed a solid set, much better than their perfromance 2 years earlier at the same venue. Many "Trick" fans were on hand...I wished that they had played more of their older (First 3 albums) material, but that's just me. The crowd seem to thicken when Squeeze hit the stage. Glenn TIllbrook is stil a showman and his voice is still great. They played all of their hits as well as some new material that I liked, but will have to investigate further. It was great venue for both bands, but the Cheap Trick fans seemed bored by Squeeze. Squeeze, in my opinion, depends on better songwriting and they are more diverse musically than Cheap Trick. Both played very well and and very different from one another, which made it a special evening.

  • SQUEEZE!!

by macca66 on 7/15/10Bank of America Pavilion - BostonRating: 4 out of 5

Cheap trick didn't play enough hits but sounded amazing. Squeeze sounded amazing and played all of their hits!!!!

  • Squeeze is still the best of the 80's

by mickyjoe on 7/15/10Bank of America Pavilion - BostonRating: 4 out of 5

Cheap Trick was tough to hear. The music drowned out the lyrics. actually spoke to Billy the guy @ the controls and he took the blame. Squeeze on the other hand (albeit a different sound level) was fantastic. Saw 2 members play yrs. ago @ The Paradise in Boston and have really enjoyed their music. They are the reason I went to the show last nt. They should come back soon. My friend and I were ecstatic.

  • Squeeze is still the best of the 80's

Cheep Trick was too loud to hear lyrics. Squeeze is still fantastic

  • Squeeze and Cheap Trick...

by Nacho999 on 7/15/10Bank of America Pavilion - BostonRating: 4 out of 5

Caught the Squeeze and Cheap Trick double bill last night. I see a lot of concerts, but I hadn't seen either band in years so I trucked down to Bank of America Pavilion last night in the driving mist. I'm a sucker for Cheap Trick. I can't put my finger on it, but I always liked their tongue in cheek schtick. Plus they have great harmonies when the right song is played. I didn't hear too many of my favorites from them last night (no Oh Caroline, Gonna Raise Hell or Clock Strikes Ten for instance), but they were great. Squeeze is Squeeze. They are a female friendly band that's hard not to like. They ran through most of their hits and I enjoyed myself even though I had seen them several times in the 80's and 90's. If you just want to see a throw back show that's easy on the ears, you could do a lot worse.

  • lots of fun--they start on time (yikes?)

by omjen on 7/15/10Bank of America Pavilion - BostonRating: 4 out of 5

So we missed a bit of Cheap Trick because be got to the venue at 8:15. . .Was a marginal Cheap Trick fan back in the day, but they were really fun last night. They sounded great and seemed to have a great time on stage. They were a huge hit with their fans--people were going nuts. They put on a great show. Squeeze was phenomenal. They sound the same, had great energy on stage, played all their hits, and their new songs were really good. The crowd loved the show--stood and danced for the whole thing. It was just a great time.

  • Solid, but slightly tired

by NEGinFan on 7/15/10Bank of America Pavilion - BostonRating: 3 out of 5

On one level, the performances by Cheap Taick and Squeeze at Bank of America Pavilion last night met my expectations. Both bands rolled out the hits at appropriate points in their respective sets, and it was great to hear encores from both as well. But I couldn't help thinking that it all sounded slightly tired - quite literally in the case of Cheap Trick, when the band announced that they had been feeling ill of late. That's fair - anyone can feel off now and then, but I would like to hear more variety from two bands that have immense song catalogs. ( How 'bout "He's a Whore" Cheap Trick?, Any "Bang, Bang" left in you, Squeeze?) Of the two, I felt that Squeeze generated the most enthusiasm from the crowd, but Messrs. Tillbrook and Difford left some of their stage energy at home as well. C'mon lads, put some of those amazing pop hooks together in new and creative ways, like you did in those explosive clubs shows from not so long ago. I haven't given up on them yet, but let's hope they regain the energy that made us fans fall in love with them.

  • "cheapTRICK" & "SQUEEZE"

by 2statenISLAND on 7/15/10Radio City Music Hall - New YorkRating: 3 out of 5

Too bad "SQUEEZE" didn't open the show; we would have walked out when "cheapTRICK" started playing: 1hour15 wasted on noise! "SQUEEZE" was so professional; so "tight". In the vestibules, concert goers, as well as matrons, were complaining about "cheapTRICK". Rating: "cheapTRICK": 0; "SQUEEZE": 5. "SQUEEZE" should have sung for 3 hours!

  • Squeeze was Great! Cheap Trick, too much feedback

by ktelerin on 7/15/10Bank of America Pavilion - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

What a great show. I would have prefered to see the English Beat/Squeeze show. Cheap Trick needs work on the sound board.

  • Cheap trick rocked

by kenny52 on 7/15/10Bank of America Pavilion - BostonRating: 4 out of 5

I am so glad Cheap Trick was on first. It saved us the time of listening to an average at best squeeze. Cheap Trick was just as awesome if not better than usual. I've seen them 25 times and its always a great time.Robin's voice was great and the band sounded very good

  • Good but they should have done their 80s stuff too

by MichaelKoenen on 7/15/10Radio City Music Hall - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

I went to see Cheap Trick. I stayed for most of Squeeze's set but I'm not really a Squeeze fan. Cheap Trick was great. Robin Zander's voice is still really good and Rick Nielsen still rocks on guitar. My only complaint is that they didn't play most of their 80s hits. They played "Surrender," "Dream Police" and "I want you to want me". They skipped "The Flame," "Ghost Town," "Can't stop falling in love," and just about all their other 80s hits as well. The only song I identified as one from the 80s was "I can't take it". I understand they probably didn't want to play "The Flame" because it was written for them (they didn't write that one), and also its a power ballad, but it was a number 1 song for them and I think they should have at least played that song from the 80s. Overall it was a good show, I just wish they had played more of their hits.

  • Good and Amazing

by cozkid on 7/15/10Bank of America Pavilion - BostonRating: 4 out of 5

Both bands sounded phenomenal, it was so great to hear true rock & roll again. The only complaint I would have for Cheap Trick would be the setlist. It's as if they didn't exist in the 1980's. Where was Tonight It's You, She's Tight, Stop This Game, If You Want My Love, The Flame among others. Why do Magical Mystery Tour and not any of those? Robin's voice was in top form and the band ripped it up. Squeeze gets an A plus. So great to see Difford & Tilbrook back together. They played everything and the double encores of Nail in My heart and Mussels was beyond amazing.

  • Squeeze and Cheap Trick midsummer-NY Joy Injection

by carneye on 7/15/10Radio City Music Hall - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Cheap Trick played their heart out. Squeeze was wonderfully melodic. Two fine bands with a sense of humor and expert musicianship. Radio City is a delicious place to see anybody -- the acoustics seem sensaround and the visual is cornucopic. Comes off like a dream.

  • Cheap Trick was innovative

by Bethu on 7/14/10Radio City Music Hall - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

I would have preferred to see the professionally smooth Squeeze first, but the positions of playing are alternating each concert. Squeeze was good, definitely favored by the crowd, but obviously more sedate and less talented. Cheap Trick rocked with a variety of songs from 1975 to the present. There was a devoted following of Cheap Trick fans, and the show was loud in a good way. They continue to showcase their entertaining set with talented musicians playing their roles.

  • Cheap Trick too loud, Squeeze awesome

by TigerLady313 on 7/14/10Radio City Music Hall - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

I am a long time fan of Cheap Trick, but found the volume for the instruments over played the vocal's sound. Squeeze was awesome! Sound as good as ever.
