About

Squeeze, led by the songwriting duo of Chris Difford and Glenn Tilbrook, produced some of the catchiest songs from the ‘70s British new wave scene. The band’s 1978 self-titled debut and follow-up albums Cool for Cats (1979) and Argybargy (1980) produced a number of hits in the U.K., with a few receiving airplay on U.S. college radio, including “Take Me I'm Yours,” “Up the Junction” and the bouncy “Pulling Mussels (From the Shell).” In 1981, Squeeze released their fourth studio album East Side Story, featuring “Tempted.” The song went on to become one of the band’s most famous songs. It has been featured in movies, TV shows, video games and commercials.

  • Like two fab concerts in one!

by atHeart on 7/29/10Gibson Amphitheatre at Universal CityWalk - Universal CityRating: 5 out of 5

Being in the front row doesn't hurt, but both bands were awesome! Played all the great favs & some new favorites too. I originally bought the tickets for my husband who is a huge Squeeze fan (he has seen them perform a couple of times before), but I must say I enjoyed it just as much as he did. Glenn Tilbrook still has great vocals (reminds me of Paul McCartney), Chris Difford (brill lyricist) was rockin' & I was blown away by their quirky keyboardist! Would LOVE to see them again!

  • Squeeze & English Beat - Fantastic show

by KemperBoyd on 7/29/10Gibson Amphitheatre at Universal CityWalk - Universal CityRating: 5 out of 5

Loved the show. It was a ton of fun to bask in the nostalgia of my college days with this great music. English beat opened up with an hour long string of hits that had most of the audience of 40 and 50 year olds up on their feet the whole time. Squeeze put on a 90 minute set that was also awesome. I had seen English Beat before, but this was my first time for Squeeze, so it was quite a treat. Nice to hear that their voices have held up so well, but the boys were definitely starting to get strained by the end of the night. Still, a great time was had by all.

  • Squeeze & The Beat, what a great combo!!

by billygoatsgruff on 7/29/10Gibson Amphitheatre at Universal CityWalk - Universal CityRating: 4 out of 5

While I missed Ranking Roger, Dave Wakeling's voice is as good as when I saw the band at Scraptoft in 1978. The band looked like they were having fun and the lineup really worked. Squeeze performed all of their material beautifully and judging from most of the audience standing through the whole show the rest of the crowd agrees, great show guys!

  • Squeeze/English Beat at Gibson

by LottieDah on 7/29/10Gibson Amphitheatre at Universal CityWalk - Universal CityRating: 4 out of 5

Loved the show, wish English Beat could have played a little longer. Both bands still sound terrific.

  • Squeeze and English Beat at the Gibson

by 1hipchik on 7/29/10Gibson Amphitheatre at Universal CityWalk - Universal CityRating: 5 out of 5

The show was awesome. English Beat was full of energy and could have easily been the headline act. Squeeze was on top of their game and Glenn's voice was amazing! Good to know the old songs still sound new.

  • Fantastic!

What a great concert! And English Beat was still great too!

  • Squeeze Did Not Disappoint

by Packervink on 7/29/10Minnesota Zoo Amphitheater - Apple ValleyRating: 5 out of 5

This review is fairly biased because I have always had a soft spot in my heart for Difford and Tilbrook. The music might get a little pop-sweet at times, but more often than not they are able to pull it off. This night was a perfect combination of a great setting, the Minnesota Zoo with a lake in the background, a beautiful night (not a cloud in the sky), a great opening set by the English Beat, and a complete and satisfying musical set by Squeeze. The sound was perfect, and the music hit on all of their era's and hits and left a very satisfied crowd.

  • Great Night for Squeeze

by Squeezer10 on 7/28/10Minnesota Zoo Amphitheater - Apple ValleyRating: 4 out of 5

It was a super show. Spot on. Chris looked great! The English Beat were fabulous as well!

  • The English Beat/Squeeze were fantastic!

by RMJCO on 7/27/10Ogden Theatre - DenverRating: 5 out of 5

As always, David Wakeling and the boyz were excellent. Heard all the songs I wanted to hear, and LOVED the show. Squeeze was surprisingly good as well. Wasn't sure that would be the case, but was very happy to have stayed until the end of the show.

  • Absolutely a fantastic fun night!

by noreenandcraig on 7/27/10Ogden Theatre - DenverRating: 5 out of 5

The Beat mad me feel 20 again and Squeeze has so many songs that we forget because we don't get to hear them anymore and the rocked the place!

  • Dream come true!

    by Jenner12345 on 7/26/10Ogden Theatre - DenverRating: 5 out of 5

I have wanted to see Squeeze since the 1980's and never got a chance to see them - until now!!! English Beat as the opening band made this concert unforgettable and truly icing on the cake! Really, really awesome. Sound quality was good and the venue was small enough to really enjoy the show.

  • English Beat was better than Squeeze by far!

by Tootster on 7/26/10Ogden Theatre - DenverRating: 4 out of 5

The English Beat was amazing. They were pure high energy. Dance till you drop, and then here comes another great tune. Considered leaving several times during the Squeeze portion of the concert. It was difficult to come down from the high provided by the Beat to a mellower band like Squeeze. If the bill was reversed, this would have been an amazing show.

  • Squeeze- Spectacular

    by Satch25 on 7/26/10Ogden Theatre - DenverRating: 5 out of 5

It had been too long. Squeeze's last show in Denver was in '93 for the SFP tour, and Glenn hadn't played since he played a live radio show for eTown in Boulder in 2003. In 2002 we were spoiled by 3 shows in 3 nites- in Denver, CO Springs and Boulder. So it was great to get my Glenn/Squeeze itch scratched. The setlist is below- just some order change at the beginning. I didn't realize til I got home that every song on Singles 45 and Under were performed. Great arrangement of Annie and Slap & Tickle particularly. Glenn was his usual bubbly self- taking center stage in a nice brown pinstripe suit and a blue t-shirt underneath, white Pat Boone shoes, and a bit unshaven. His singing was fab, as was his guitar slinging. Par for the course with Glenn. Chris seemed a bit rote. There were times when Bentley would saunter across the stage for a little interplay but Chris seemed indifferent. Chris did mention before he sang Someone Else's Heart (another highlight) that he's heard tapes of old live shows and the Ogden show in '93 stood out as a great concert. One or two b-sides came from that show too. Having not had the opportunity to see The Fluffers live, it was my first encounter with Stephen and Simon. Simon was rock solid- pretty well playing in the Lavis style- heavy handed but not as flashy. Stephen was serviceable- not any great playing particularly. It was great to hear everyone providing back-up vox! John and Glenn sounded great together on the verses of Someone Else's Heart when they sang without Chris. John hadn't been to Denver since 1980s East Side tour at The Rainbow, which is now a Walgreen's. :-/ It was nice to tell Glenn how much I've enjoyed his newest efforts- Bing and PE. Hope Fell Down and If It's Love were another two highlights for me. There was an older man who looked Filipino that was friends with Glenn's father in London. Glenn was very warm to the guy. He kept telling Glenn how much Glenn looked like his dad. Glenn told him a few times, "that sounds like something my dad would say." The man didn't attend the show- he thought Chris was Glenn as Chris was the first one out of the dressing room. Today I'm left with an old 3 Degrees song- When Will I See You Again? Next time, I'll travel to Glenn or Squeeze so the drought isn't as long.

  • rockin the 80s

    by tommyboy49 on 7/26/10Ogden Theatre - DenverRating: 4 out of 5

Squeeze and the English Beat at the Ogden Theater did not disapoint. Great sound ,an endless parade of hits, and a packed house. This was my first time at the Ogden and to be honest, I had heard pretty bad things about this venue. If you want a seat get there early, but I thought the set up was great with plenty of room to dance. Unlike its neighbor the Fillmore, the Ogden is air condintioned which in the hot summer months is a bonus. I did find the bartenders to be rude and unfriendly. I was cordial and tipped well but never even a hint of a smile or any kind of common courtesy. (cmon guys really?) I highly reccomend this venue and for those who love 80s rock, Squeeze and the Beat will put a smile on your face and give you happy feet.

  • English Beat and Squeeze!! Anything better????

by Bonquisha on 7/26/10Ogden Theatre - DenverRating: 4 out of 5

I danced my ass off, I think I lost 10 pounds last night!!

  • The English Beat was a blast!

by Breckgirl on 7/26/10Ogden Theatre - DenverRating: 4 out of 5

The English Beat got the crowd going right away with their high energy beat. They had great connection with the audience and everyone was dancing and singing along. They played all of their hits and could have listened to them all night. Still sound good after all these years. The Ogden was a good venue for this show, lots of dancing room and great views of the band from everywhere. Squeeze followed the Beat...a tough act to follow. Although musically, Squeeze sounded great but their first 4-5 songs were very mellow, then they finally played their hits at the end. Honestly, I almost left after their third song. It was just too mellow coming off of the high energy of the Beat. In the end, I'm glad I didn't leave. I think Squeeze should have opened, instead of the Beat.

  • I Love Squeeze!!

    by TrishTheDish420 on 7/26/10Ogden Theatre - DenverRating: 5 out of 5

FANTASTICAL!! What an amazing show!! The English Beat was awesome as well!!

  • by Anonymous on 7/26/10Ogden Theatre - DenverRating: 5 out of 5

I never stopped dancing to English Beat and Squeeze was outstanding. I can see why Difford and Tillbrook were once compared to Lennon and McCartney. They have an amazing catalog of songs and I was glad I got to see them perform!

  • by Anonymous on 7/26/10Ogden Theatre - DenverRating: 4 out of 5

Great show! English Beat was better than other recent tours and Squeeze was surprisingly tight - they still have it!

  • Amazing concert!

    by jules1987 on 7/26/10Ogden Theatre - DenverRating: 5 out of 5

This was an incredible concert both English Beat AND Squeeze sounded exactly as I remembered in the 80's - so worth being tired for work today!
