About

Squeeze, led by the songwriting duo of Chris Difford and Glenn Tilbrook, produced some of the catchiest songs from the ‘70s British new wave scene. The band’s 1978 self-titled debut and follow-up albums Cool for Cats (1979) and Argybargy (1980) produced a number of hits in the U.K., with a few receiving airplay on U.S. college radio, including “Take Me I'm Yours,” “Up the Junction” and the bouncy “Pulling Mussels (From the Shell).” In 1981, Squeeze released their fourth studio album East Side Story, featuring “Tempted.” The song went on to become one of the band’s most famous songs. It has been featured in movies, TV shows, video games and commercials.

  • Squeeze has still got it!

by Rikkidontlosethatnumber on 8/2/10The Fillmore - San FranciscoRating: 5 out of 5

Glen & Chris and band were "on" last night. They played a tight set, and hit most of the highlight songs and looked happy to do it. Three more songs at the encore and it was over before 11. Fillmore is always a great venue, and I chose specifically to see them here over Montalvo Winery. Dave Wakeling and The English Beat have seen better days. It was great that they were able to do a couple of General Public songs. But lack of trumpet and those great guitar riffs made for English Deadbeat.

Squeeze was fantastic. They played all the songs you wanted to hear and only a couple you didn't. The sounded great. The Mountain Winery is a great place to see a concert - small and intimate, great atmosphere, and not a bad seat in the house. The English Beat sounded great and had great energy. Everyone in the audience was on their feet dancing. I only wish they had played longer!

  • Squeeze @ Napa Uptown

by sacberg on 8/1/10Uptown Theatre Napa - NapaRating: 3 out of 5

Nice place. Set was all the US albums, would have like to heard some off the later ones. Sound was border line poor, not venues fault

  • Squeeze rocks Radio City

by CoreyBBearak on 8/1/10Radio City Music Hall - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Really enjoyed Squeeze. Cheap Trick was ok but I'd have preferred a concert where Squeeze could play more of its tunes.

  • Wonderful Squeeze-Beat Show

by jleisek on 8/1/10Uptown Theatre Napa - NapaRating: 5 out of 5

Dave Wakeling is quite an entertainer and obviously has a lot of fun, which is infectious. Squeeze was amazing: they still sound great. So many great songs, the Tilbrook-Difford quality is right up there with Lennon-McCartney and Partridge-Moulding in the pantheon of pop songwriters.

  • Good show

by claidhmore on 8/1/10Uptown Theatre Napa - NapaRating: 4 out of 5

Personally, I thought the English Beat were better and definitely had the crowd going but Squeeze was good was well.

  • Good playing, only fair sound system in theater

by Anonymous on 8/1/10Uptown Theatre Napa - NapaRating: 4 out of 5

Both the English Beat and Squeeze turned in good performances, as you would expect from seasoned professionals. The only downside was that the sound was a little muddy in the Uptown Theater in Napa (we were sitting two rows in front of the sound board, in the middle section, eight rows from the stage).

  • Squeeze are awesome!

by Peterpest on 8/1/10Uptown Theatre Napa - NapaRating: 5 out of 5

English Beat really warmed up the crowd. A lot of people dancing. Uptown Theatre in Napa is a great venue - friendly, intimate, good parking and lots of eating places around. Squeeze are a personal favorite and didnt disappoint. Great to see Tilbrook and Difford getting along again.

  • Squeeze Still Rocks

by eatsleepswim on 8/1/10Uptown Theatre Napa - NapaRating: 4 out of 5

Loved the music. Hated how the audience from behind us rushed into the aisles and stayed there for the rest of the show blocking our view for the entire show making us stand up. We had great seats! It would have been nice to sit.

  • Squeeze/English Beat Rock the Winery

by NdnaJnz on 7/31/10Mountain Winery - SaratogaRating: 5 out of 5

An excellent concert. Both bands sounded great. A lot of audience enthusiasm. Looking forward to seeing them again next year.

  • I Still Love the English Beat

by Teresatrow on 7/31/10Mountain Winery - SaratogaRating: 5 out of 5

The English Beat just has fun on stage. The whole place was dancing, the music was great, and the memories come back. When Squeeze played "Tempted by the Fruit of Another", I couldn't help thinking of my sorority sister who sang "Tempted by Fraternity Brothers".

  • Both bands exceptional

    by Musicfan59 on 7/31/10Mountain Winery - SaratogaRating: 5 out of 5

Both bands exceptional. The English beat were great and di all their favorites. They even managed an encore - which is unhead of at MW. It would have been very hard for Squeeze to follow susch a performance, but they managed it. Again, all the old favorites done to precision. Great Show

  • Squeeze/English beat. Very good

by Anonymous on 7/31/10Mountain Winery - SaratogaRating: 5 out of 5

All the big hits. Lots of energy. These guys have vocal cords that don't age. If you were ever into these bands even a little, go see them.

  • Absolutely Fabulous

by DanceCraze on 7/31/10Mountain Winery - SaratogaRating: 5 out of 5

This was an awesome show! I must say I yearn for the days of the original English Beat line- up but I certainly respect and enjoy Dave Waklings's performances he is one of the hardest working musicians that exist! The bass player was phenomenal!!! Squeeze gave a Superb performance great choice of songs to play for their hardcore fans their line-up of musicians were right on note for note and kept the songs true to their original greatness I loved the humour w/ the Yogi & Boo reference. This show made dance dance dance and made me a little misty eyed remembering a time when there was so much great music to listen to it seems like i have to go back in time and bust out the vinly to find it. I hope both bands keep touring.

  • Possibly Best Squeeze Show in 30 Years???

by BobBoston on 7/31/10Gibson Amphitheatre at Universal CityWalk - Universal CityRating: 5 out of 5

I've seen Squeeze many times over the past 30 years and must say that this might have been the best sounding and tightest ever. While they are not as young and animated as they once were, they have only honed their musical skiills and have hired the best of keyboards and drums. While the bass is not of the original lineup, he was part of the pre-82 band so he is almost an original member. Also, this is a first rate production with A-list sound, lights and media-projections. Somebody is footing a large production bill for this tour and it is worth seeing. The best part of the show was the choice of songs. Almost exc;usively from the original pre-1982 breakup era - which was the only time I followed the band. Cheers to the band for not trying to peddle new tunes and instead going for the crowd pleasers. The English Beat, while missing Ranking Roger - replaced by Two Tone Tony was a pleasant surprise. I wasn't expecting much - but Dave Wakling and TT Tony worked the crowd and the band was tight and sound was full. Wakling is a top rate performer and I am embarrassed to say I've never seen him over the years. I see a lot of shows and am generally disappointed - this was not one of those.

  • Newave is still the rave!

    by Skanin2thebeat on 7/31/10Mountain Winery - SaratogaRating: 5 out of 5

The English Beat and Squeeze at the Mtn Winery in Saratoga on July 30th was epic. Dave was in great form, and Difford and Tillbrook were absolutely brilliant! The crowd sported aged mods that still had spunk and knew every word to every song. There was much skankin and jumping to be had all night long. Way to go gents, keep showing this generation that ska and great pop can still keep the heart a buzzin!

  • Squeeze/English Beat Rocked!

by losgatoscat on 7/31/10Mountain Winery - SaratogaRating: 5 out of 5

Absolutely amazing show. Both bands had lots of energy and personality. FUN

  • Great night at Gibson Amphitheatre

by muzakfiend on 7/30/10Gibson Amphitheatre at Universal CityWalk - Universal CityRating: 5 out of 5

If you love the 80's you cant go wrong and Squeeze and the English Beat are a dynamite combination...both bands sound fantastic...highly recommend this duo

  • Squeeze Still A Class Act

by AlexMusicfan on 7/29/10Gibson Amphitheatre at Universal CityWalk - Universal CityRating: 4 out of 5

The class acts always deliver. Went to the show at the Gibson Amphitheatre CityWalk to see English Beat and Squeeze. English Beat was a good fun opening act. People dancing in the aisles fun. Still sound good and still have some ska energy. Got which was as expected an older crowd, but they we're moving. English Beat I'd give a 3.5 out of 5 for their show. But then again, they're an opening act, not suppose to steal the show. Then comes Squeeze. Now something about a class act just shows immediately. These are professionals! Sound was as I remembered decades ago, no voice degradation here. Something about a band that still dresses like they care about how they look and sound does let you know they are into it. You hear the music, but you also see they care. Performers. The backdrop video was not overly in your face to overshadow the act, which often happens. Just a fun, heartfelt love of their music comes out. With all the years in the business, just a class act shines when you see them. If you get a chance, catch their performance.
