About

Squeeze, led by the songwriting duo of Chris Difford and Glenn Tilbrook, produced some of the catchiest songs from the ‘70s British new wave scene. The band’s 1978 self-titled debut and follow-up albums Cool for Cats (1979) and Argybargy (1980) produced a number of hits in the U.K., with a few receiving airplay on U.S. college radio, including “Take Me I'm Yours,” “Up the Junction” and the bouncy “Pulling Mussels (From the Shell).” In 1981, Squeeze released their fourth studio album East Side Story, featuring “Tempted.” The song went on to become one of the band’s most famous songs. It has been featured in movies, TV shows, video games and commercials.

  • BEAT AND SQUEEZE WORTH EVERY PENNY

by HARBORSHARK on 5/2/12Roseland Ballroom - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

JUST GREAT, IF YOU LIKE EM ...GO! THE BEAT WAS A GREAT OPENER AND A GREAT COMPLIMENT TO SQUEEZE, GREAT CONTINUITY OF FANS. ROSELAND....WELL GENERAL ADMISSION AND 10 DOLLAR DRINKS

  • Both bands were awesome!!

    by NY80sfan on 5/2/12Roseland Ballroom - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

This was an amazing concert and trip down memory lane. English Beat opened and played about 50 minutes of energetic, memorable tunes including both those by English Beat and by the spin-off act General Public. Then, Squeeze totally rocked it, kicking off their set with "Take Me I'm Yours" and "If I Didn't Love You," two of my favorite Squeeze songs. They briefly diverged into some newer (or less known) material for 5 or 6 songs (some better than others) but then returned to the 80s with a vengeance and the last 35-40 minutes of the show was solid, classic Squeeze.

  • the Beat + Squeeze = Legendary

by CCNJ on 5/2/12Roseland Ballroom - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

The first time I saw the English beat play with squeeze was well ....a long time ago, so long that the warm up band was REM...that long ago. These guys always deliver , a great set, awesome energy and a class act. I think they are better live now than all those years ago. Also, Glenn ripped a couple of great solos, but I'm not loving the beard and side boards all that much. You're forgiven.

Another amazing show by Squeeze. They played all of their hits and some really good deep album cuts from their early years. They still sound good after all these years. I also enjoyed the English Beat.

  • Squeeze still Rocks

    by redbeardpop1 on 5/2/12Roseland Ballroom - New YorkRating: 4 out of 5

The bands musicianship was only surpassed by their vocals and harmonys.

  • Great Show

Squeeze sounded great. Glenn and Chris are amazing musicians.

  • Always great!

by diffordandtilbrookforever on 5/2/12Roseland Ballroom - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

Have seen this band more times than I can count. They never disappoint. This concert showed their considerable talents as musicians more than any other performance. I swore I'd never attend a general admission concert after seeing Springsteen last year, but have since decided that it is the BEST way to see Squeeze perform.

  • Squeeze still puts on a fabulous show!!!

by Spazoo on 5/2/12Roseland Ballroom - New YorkRating: 5 out of 5

I've been going to Squeeze shows since the early 80s and they never disappoint. This time Glenn Tillbrook was sporting some odd facial hair and there were some random players on the stage but they were fantastic!!!! Those gentlemen penned some wonderful songs back in the day and they hold up over the years. The voices were good, the vibe was groovin' and the energy level was up there. I would go to see them again in a heartbeat!

Awesome show - did not particularly care for the keyboard player though - didn't 'fit'

by EyesbyJohnny on 4/25/12Bergen Performing Arts Center - EnglewoodRating: 4 out of 5

They played hard and had a good sound. Played all their hits and some new stuff too.

  • Great performances diminished by sound mix

by abollafia on 4/25/12Bergen Performing Arts Center - EnglewoodRating: 4 out of 5

Squeeze hasn't lost anything over all these years, fun, tight, engaging, great vocals and musicianship. But they were ill-served by a sound mix way too heavy on bass and muddy vocals. I sat five rows in front of the mixer board and obviously the sound tech wasn't hearing what I was - booming bass and indiscernible vocals. No obvious adjustments were made during the entire performance. I think it is a shame that the band's performance was compromised by a poor performance by the sound tech.

  • They've still got it!

by TheDoc85 on 4/25/12Bergen Performing Arts Center - EnglewoodRating: 4 out of 5

If you like songwriting--------tunes with memorable melodies and lyrics with meaning and a wink of wit-----Squeeze is the band for you. And as the title points out-----they've still got it. Rock on, boys!

  • "Squeezed" for the 1st Time!

by DocRobert on 4/25/12Bergen Performing Arts Center - EnglewoodRating: 4 out of 5

Always wanted to see Squeeze & finally got the chance. Very energetic performance. Went from one song to the next, no stopping. Nice start to the set then all the classics were put at the end of the show. Tilbrook was in fine form. Love the Tilbrook/Difford unison vocals (signature Squeeze!) Set was 90 minutes. Excellent turnout! They still draw quite a crowd. The people in the back were standing/dancing the whole night!

  • Squeeze Rocked the House

by Lucylaw on 4/25/12Bergen Performing Arts Center - EnglewoodRating: 5 out of 5

The band looked great and sounded great. They played all of their hits and then some! They played everything from Tempted, Annie Get Your Gun, Goodbye Girl, Cool for Cats, etc. I recommend that anyone who is a big Squeeze fan to check out their show! I've seen them four times and this show was one of the best.

  • If ever a fan, don't miss

by NJJimG on 4/25/12Bergen Performing Arts Center - EnglewoodRating: 5 out of 5

My friend recently told me that Squeezed "mailed in" their performance and stunk the last time she'd seen them. I was hoping just a bad night and was not deterred in buying tickets for their Bergen PAC performance. First, the venue, the sound was GREAT! The opening act, English Beat / General Public - I saw them as an opening act back in the early 80s and did not give them much attention. If they were this good back then, I missed a good show in the 80s. Great sound, fun, enthusiastic! So back to the "mailing in" comment, if they mailed it in the other night, it was "First Class" mail. AWESOME!!!! People were dancing, singing and the voices from the band were right on. Highly recommend!!!

  • Squeeze 10, Bergen PAC 3

by lokay77 on 4/25/12Bergen Performing Arts Center - EnglewoodRating: 4 out of 5

This was a great concert in a wonderful hall, but the sound quality was (in my view) horrible. Difford and Tilbrook are all about the lyrics; usually you can hear every word crisply and clearly --- not here. The bass was so bassy it rumbled, eclipsing the vocals and the fantastic guitar and keyboards. You couldn't hear the bass, but you could feel it thumping your chest! The band was terrific. Simon Hanson on the drums is excellent; Steven Large on keyboards was great. Glen Tilbrook is nothing short of amazing. He plays a complicated and repetitive guitar lick while singing (and remembering) thousands of words. And that voice! Every bit as high and clear and gorgeous as ever. Wonderful choice of songs. A projector showing film clips added to the overall show, although they could have done without Bonny and Clyde.... I'd love to see them in a different venue.

  • Squeeze... totally amazing!!!

by LAMDP on 4/25/12Bergen Performing Arts Center - EnglewoodRating: 5 out of 5

The show was incredible. It took me back in time. I was married in 1985 and we played Sqeeze as I walked down the aisle. They sounded great, even better than I remember.
