Squeeze, led by the songwriting duo of Chris Difford and Glenn Tilbrook, produced some of the catchiest songs from the ‘70s British new wave scene. The band’s 1978 self-titled debut and follow-up albums Cool for Cats (1979) and Argybargy (1980) produced a number of hits in the U.K., with a few receiving airplay on U.S. college radio, including “Take Me I'm Yours,” “Up the Junction” and the bouncy “Pulling Mussels (From the Shell).” In 1981, Squeeze released their fourth studio album East Side Story, featuring “Tempted.” The song went on to become one of the band’s most famous songs. It has been featured in movies, TV shows, video games and commercials.

Squeeze was great. The sound was good and the voices of Glenn and Chris sound the same as they did when the records first came out. I have been to a few of their concerts and am never disappointed. All the hits and some of the songs from their new album were performed.
Squeeze was OK. They played most of their hits, and showed great enthusiasm. Unfortunately, instruments were WAY louder than their voices, so it was hard to make out the lyrics. At least, it was where we sat (in the balcony). Wouldn't that be part of the sound check? They also had (for lack of a better term) music videos playing on a screen behind the stage, for the whole show. Entertaining in small doses, but after a while very distracting. For $80+ per ticket, we expected more. The opening act was the English Beat. They were actually the highlight of the show. Fantastic energy and great musicianship had the crowd roaring.
The English Beat got things started with hit after hit (although I was disappointed by not having "I Confess" on the set list - I believe it to be their greatest song)...and then Squeeze lead by the amazing guitar wizardry of Glenn Tilbrook kept the party going....I loved the Easybeats cover "Friday on my mind" as well as "Harper Valley PTA" (written by the great Tom T. Hall) ....and the overall tightness of the band was just amazing...interesting twist having Chris sing lead on "Electric Trains"....would have loved to have heard something from "Play" (their most underrated collection) and the sound at NJPAC was amazing....in closing...expand on the breakdown during "Cool for Cats" (the band should seize that moment and get really funky) and why not do "Voodoo Chile" with the band ??
Did not know what to expect, but it was a wonderful concert. English Beat opened and they sounded great and were energetic and fun to watch. Squeeze sounded better than ever, crowd really enjoyed the show.
Squeeze was really great. They can still sing and were so much fun!!!
i was just an average Squeeze fan but seeing them live has made me a huge fan. Sounded great. High energy.
Been so long since seeing /hearing these 2 bands...NJPAC is a great place for concerts!
English Beat opened and put on a very enjoyable set. Rankin Roger not with band but his replacement kept the crowd up and grooving. Squeeze were remarkable. terrific sound in beautiful theater. Many hits and songs from upcoming album were performed. Glenn is fabulous on guitar and vocals. Very tight band.
Voices as clear & clean as they were 30 years ago. Awesome show!
Terrific show. Just fun and a great sense of nostalgia hearing their great songs. English Beat was fun too - when you could understand what they were saying!
Squeeze was in top form - Tillbrook and Difford were great, as usual.
Squeeze sounded as good as when you first heard them in the 70's & 80's. Glenn Tilbrook's voice was crystal clear and Chris's lyrics are unforgettable. The band was very tight. We enjoyed every minute of the show.
The English Beat and Squeeze put on a great show. From the ska sound of The English Beat to the tunes of Squeeze, it was a fun evening. NJPAC is a beautiful venue and the sound is excellent.
I was a HUGE fan of Squeeze in the 80s & saw them several times back in the day. I was cautiously optimistic seeing them again after all these years. They did not dissapoint!!! In fact, they may have improved with age. Glenn's voice & guitar skills were impeccable! I really enjoyed the new members of the band as well. Great showmanship by all! Loved it!!
Great show played everything , put new twits on old favorites , played solo material. Question and answer periods wee fun, overall exceeded my expectations.
Was pleasantly surprised - knew I would love the show 'cause I love their music, but it exceeded my expectations.
Good mix of new material and greatest hits; more of the latter. If venue didn't try to jam so many seats on floor it would be much more enjoyable.
played all their hits and did a really good and entertaining show.
These guys sound every bit as good as they did 35 years ago and are one of the few 'still touring" acts who are able to put out new music that is every bit as good as the older stuff. Their music is absolutely joyful and their voices still sound phenomenal. Lets' get them in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame already!!! However, the $100 "Loge reserved" seats turned out to be bar stools against a wall where we could neither see stage OR the screens...we were REALLY unhappy. The usher brought the manager Lauren over who immediately upgraded us to a reserved Loge box where we had a great view. Not only did she upgrade us, but Lauren also came by during the show to make sure we were happy- many thanks and kudos to her. She turned what would have been a very disappointing evening into a wonderful one.
