Date night dinner and concert.
Spyro Gyra. No "going through the motions" here.
After 49 years. . .still fresh. . .bright. . . tight. Their longevity comes as no surprise to anyone even casually familiar with them. I am a musician and I play just well enough to understand (not play) what they are doing. Their sound is sophisticated, melodic, catchy, complex, but not complicated. This combination is hard to pull off. (Well not for them.) They keep the soul of the song they’re playing right in their hip pocket while at the same time, taking it right up to the penthouse. They’re easy to listen to, but still offer up enough substance for a listener “audio deep dive.” Not a weak number in a remarkably diverse set. What I heard that night could have been released as a live album. Spyro Gyra is a perfect example of why we have music.
