There is something really wrong with you if Spyro Gyra music doesn’t put you in a happy mood, or at least happier than you were! Experiencing them live just elevates the experience. What a treat!

Concert opened with Lee Ritenour, excellent guitarist. Music was good but band did not play one song I knew—and I still listen to Ritenour. Then Spyrogyra came on. Every song was at least 15 mins long. Again, band played new stuff, not what I wanted to hear. Finally played Morning Dance and Catching the Sun as final songs. From my viewpoint, most in the audience were 70+. I’m 68. I came to hear my favorites played live so I was disappointed. The way the audience came alive for those final two songs, I’d have to say they felt as I did. PLAY THE STUFF WE KNOW!

  • Fantastic band for 50 years

by Rick on 10/17/24Bethesda Theater - BethesdaRating: 5 out of 5

I’ve been watching and listening to Spyro Gyra for 50 years. When my buddy Scott Ambush joined the band I became a super fan. Don’t get me wrong Jay and the band were the best (Catching the Sun is still a favorite). Add Scott’s funky bass and somehow they got better. I watch them every time they are in town. Sometimes I’ll go out of town just to have a fantastic evening. Yea, I guess I’m a fanboy. Cheers.

  • awesome show

    by geaux 2024 on 10/5/24Bijou Theatre - KnoxvilleRating: 5 out of 5

sypro gyra still has that unique sound that has kept them a must see jazz band after 50 years. Jay and the band played with passion, energy for two hours. Tom Schuman was missed in the performance. a great show. Jay is still and incredible sax player. would see them again without a doubt.

  • Quaint Theater

by Spyro Gyra 50th on 10/4/24Bijou Theatre - KnoxvilleRating: 5 out of 5

The venue was perfect for this concert. The acoustics were great and all of the seats had a good view of the stage.

  • Awesome Group - Very Talented

    by Rwoody6 on 10/4/24Bijou Theatre - KnoxvilleRating: 5 out of 5

This is the 3rd time I’ve seen Spyro Gyra in concert. All of them have been in completely different venues, with one them being outside. They always put on a great concert. They have a ton of talent. I’m hoping to see them again if they come back to our area.

  • Great but...

by Dad on 10/4/24Bijou Theatre - KnoxvilleRating: 4 out of 5

Need to stop with the sub woofer. Ruins the music. You can't hear it on a recording only live.

  • Great musicians; questionable sound mixing

by Jazz lover on 10/4/24Bijou Theatre - KnoxvilleRating: 4 out of 5

Spyro Gyra is as good as ever, and the musicianship was outstanding. Unfortunately the balance of sound range was way too heavy on the low end, and a bit too loud for this music genre. Would have been perfect for heavy metal or classic rock.

  • Really good

    by John R on 10/4/24Bijou Theatre - KnoxvilleRating: 5 out of 5

Any serious musician should attend a concert by these guys. I have seen a lot and I can't think of any group more talented. No light show, no distractions...just musical perfection.

  • Energy, talent and wonderful music

As a lover of Spyro Gyra for years it was wonderful to hear some of my favorites But not just played, but with the phenomenal talent of all the band members. This year’s performance was the best.

  • Excellent Venue

by The Fan on 8/5/24Showroom at Talking Stick Resort - ScottsdaleRating: 3 out of 5

A small intimate venue where every seat was a good view. The acoustics were great also. For them to be the only act, I just wished they played a larger variety of their hit songs; but overall, I enjoyed seeing them in concert for the first time.

  • Sensational

  • Great Jazz Band

by Spyro Gyra 50 Years on 8/5/24Showroom at Talking Stick Resort - ScottsdaleRating: 5 out of 5

I only have the best words for Spyro Gyra as I have been a fan since their first album and I own every album released. The seating was my only issue with their performance at the Talking Stick Resort. Although the band performed on a stage, the seating did not allow a view of the band unless you were seated in the sections next to or in front of the stage. The second section seating was level thus the person seated in front of you blocked your view. Raised seating would solve this issue giving everyone a clear line of sight view of the band. Spyro Gyra is a 5-Star performing Jazz Band.

  • Disappointing Show

by Bill H on 8/5/24Showroom at Talking Stick Resort - ScottsdaleRating: 2 out of 5

I’ve been listening to Spyro Gyro since the 80’s and was disappointed they didn’t play any of their popular hits during the show. My wife and I left the show early. The venue at Talking Stick Resort was great though.

  • Still jammin

by Lou on 8/5/24Showroom at Talking Stick Resort - ScottsdaleRating: 5 out of 5

It's a great show, and they're still solid after all these years.

  • very good

i would like to see and hear more smooth jazz groups play at the Edgewater.

  • Not Great

by Dona on 6/25/24The Aretha Franklin Amphitheatre - DetroitRating: 2 out of 5

Rick Braun and Richard Elliott blew the roof off the place. They were fantastic!! That left Spyro Gyra to come with the big guns and they just kicked it in the crotch. It almost put me to sleep, left @ third song in. Too bad. They were celebrating 50 Years, needed to come out swinging the old school stuff!!
