Excellent. Funny. If you like Monty Python, you wil love it.
We had a great time. We were prepared for Monty Python's humor.
One of the three worst theater experiences we can remember. Theater itself was terrible. Much too large for the stage, ceiling much too high making acoustics awful. More of a movie house atmosphere ... nice that they sell popcorn and beer, but people wandering up and down the aisle during the show quite annoying. And let me say that the couple sitting next to us was "overserved". They found continuous reason to laugh loudly, even when nothing funny was happening, making it even more difficult to hear the actors. We left at intermission. I will not return to the Comerica theater.
Fun! Hilarious! Energetic! As soon as it was over I bought the soundtrack, because I wanted to hear all the songs over & over again. It was so fun to see major scenes from "The Holy Grail" acted out on stage, & with marvelous additions. The cast was excellent! We especially loved "Robin, Patsy & Lancelot" in this traveling cast. If you love "Monty Python and The Holy Grail" you definitely NEED to see this production! Awesome!
What could be better than Monty Python on a Friday night!?
Lots of laughs and a compliment to the movie. We loved it and glad we went
This was a touring company and my expectations weren't high, so I wasn't disappointed, The theatre was the first problem. Comerica Theatre is cramped and uncomfortable, with no orchestra pit. Orchestral accompaniment was all recorded. Canned music--Blech! The supporting players constantly outshone the leads, neither of whose voices were up to their roles. Arthur was a decent actor, though he didn't have a strong enough stage presence. The Lady of the Lake was barely adequate and had very little stage presences. Pretty isn't enough, especially in this role. The actors playing Patsy, Dennis Galahad, and Sir Robin, were wonderful, especially Sir Robin. That boy will be a star. But in the end, Eric Idle's play is so very great and funny, that my friend who hadn't seen it before was thrilled. We can't all have Tim Curry & Sara Ramirez.
My wife is not a python fan but she enjoyed the show as much as I did
The show started late. The female lead was off-key most of the show. The acting was uninspiring at best. About a fourth of the audience left during Intermission. My guests and I wish we had made a similar wise choice.
A fun filled musical with much laughter & good times
While I think the show was great, be sure to get a seat in the center. I got seats on the side, and while it was near the center, because of the turrets on the stage, I was unable to see anything that happened at the back of center stage. Normally not a huge deal, but I couldn't see the most interesting bits with the black knight, etc. The play was very funny, and the cast was awesome. I really wish they had the castle Anthrax scene, though.
If you are a fan of the Orignal Monty Python, you're going to love this show. If you are not familiar with Monty Python, you're gong to laugh and giggle and love this show. Worth checking out for sure.
My wife is a huge Monty Python fan so this show was funny for her just for all the references. It was very entertaining and if you are a fan you really should go see it. Some of the actors were great and some were just OK but overall a good production.
The Spamalot musical play based on Monty Python and the Holy Grail was fairly true to the film, although I missed the bridge scene which wasn't included in the play. The performers were all good and performed their parts well. My only complaint was that the sound in the Comerica Theatre was not clear and it was difficult at times to understand the dialog.
Spamalot was a funny romp on stage and made me laugh at its stupid antics. However, it has lost a certain something that the original Monty Pithon had, irony and wit. It was funny, but it no longer had the self-depreciation and end of the world, everyone is stupid and there's nothing that we can do about it, humor that is a trademark of the original Monty Pithon and the Holy Grail, or any Monty Pith on really. In short, it has been "Americanized" as my British friend put it after we went.
Incredibly talented cast. Great performances all around. Our faces hurt by the end from laughing and smiling so much. If you're a Monty Python fan this show is a must! Hope to see it again someday!
