South Florida Bulls Men’s Basketball History
The South Florida Bulls men's basketball team first took the court in 1971 as the Golden Brahmans in what is now NCAA Division II, but quickly made the jump to Division I in 1973. The Bulls joined the Sun Belt Conference in 1976 and made further moves to the Metro Conference in 1991, Conference USA in 1995, the Big East in 2005 and The American in 2013.
The Bulls, who adopted their current mascot in 1980, have made three appearances in the NCAA Tournament, in 1990, 1992 and 2012, and advanced the furthest to the Round of 32 in their most recent outing. In 1990, the team won the conference tournament championship as members of the Sun Belt Conference. USF has also competed in the National Invitation Tournament nine times, as well as the College Basketball Invitational (CBI) once, where the Bulls claimed the tournament championship in 2019.
For the 2023-24 season, late head coach Amir Abdur-Rahim led the Bulls to a program-best 25-8 overall record and a 16-2 conference record to claim their first regular season conference championship. The Bulls also achieved their first national ranking on the AP Top 25 College Basketball Poll, while Abdur-Rahim was named the American Athletic Conference Coach of the Year. Following Abdur-Rahim’s passing in October 2024, USF announced their hiring of Arkansas State head coach Bryan Hodgson.

South Florida Bulls Men’s Basketball at Yuengling Center
USF men’s basketball plays at Yuengling Center on the University of South Florida campus in Tampa, Florida. Opened in 1980, the 10,500-seat venue was originally named the USF Sun Dome until 2018, but it has also earned the nickname the “Rose Garden” after the exceptional Bulls gameplay under head coach Lee Rose between 1980 and 1986. Following the unexpected death of first-year coach Amir Abdur-Rahim in 2024, the arena’s spirited So Flo Rodeo student section was officially dedicated in his honor. A $35.6 million renovation was completed in 2012.

Saw two teams play hard for 60 minutes. Great action.
My team lost but the stadium is amazing, great customer service and fun time…great price too!
Convenient parking, no hassle security& ticket entry made this basketball game experience pleasant.
Good atmosphere and venue. The 70’s themed entertainment was fun addition to the basketball game. Food was good but not great (no ice cream offered)
Once in the arena really enjoyed the atmosphere, cleanliness, and concessions. Ticket options were little restrictive. Choices were either mobile or will-call. Chose will-call because was giving them as gifts for people to attend. Unfortunately will-call was only going to open 1 hour before tip-off which is same time as doors open.
Very exciting game and the seats were amazing. The small crowd was electric. Players worked their butts off.
Loved watching my team come into my town and win the game!
The Yuengling Center is a nice place to catch a basketball game. Plenty of parking. Quick ticket window. Nice Yuengling Beer Garden and plenty of food at reasonable prices. Comfortable seats with cup holders.
Seats were awesome Atmosphere was great Great seeing Penny Hardaway - USF own Charlie Bradley Fun with friends
Great price for third row seats and a buffet in the box. Will definitely go again!
Sun Dome was a great facility except for our seats! We were apparently on the “cut through” to the student section and spent half of the first period having people walk right in front of us (even though they had their own stairwell) I have a special needs son so I always pay more to have tickets in the front row so he can move around. This was totally negated because kids were too lazy to walk to their own stairwell & they didn’t have any seat attendants watching to make sure people were going to their own sections. Kinda ruined my son’s birthday surprise. Otherwise the game was great.
Great night I had a chance to talk with one of our former players from Putnam Science Academy Basketball Team.
If you are a USF Bulls fan then the outcome was not a happy one. However for the incredible view, the excellent sound quality and excitement of live basketball, the price of the ticket was well worth it. There are some sports that are just better in person than on the tube and this is one of them. Kudos for the Sundome for the event and for maintaining an excellent sports venue right on the USF campus. Tampa sports fans need to fill this arena and help support USF.
Food selections were less than adequate. Burgers were too well done and dry
USF kept the score close to the number 16 team in the country. The game experience was great for my 8-year old and my wife. Half time was very fun too. We will be back!
This was my first college basketball game and it was a lot of fun. Both myself and my wife enjoyed ourselves.
Great place to watch some basketball! Nice people. Cool giveaways. Exciting team. Awesome campus!
It was great to watch the big guys match up in a real battle for the paint. Couple of NBA prospects in the red shirts numbers 0 and 1.
Seats were great. Venue is nice. UConn won! Easy parking and access
Looks like the USF crew isn't used to crowds like the one that turned out for this game. Ingress was a bit of a problem. Egress was worse. My seat was pretty good and I was settled down to enjoy the game but suddenly hundreds of students moved into the open seats in our section. Security did nothing to address that, so I moved to another section and enjoyed the game from the other end of the building. Overall, I was underwhelmed and likely won't go back.
