SOJA IN CONCERT:

Tempestuous weather and turbulent waters are no match for the chill vibes of Virginia-based reggae rockers SOJA. In advance of their ninth studio album, the band will embark on the Calm Before The Storm Spring Tour in early 2014, treating fans throughout the Southeastern US to laid-back sets of their smooth grooves and folk-influenced storytelling.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

The members of SOJA, formerly known as Soldiers of Jah Army, have been playing music together since middle and high school, forming an intimate bond that's immediately evident in their tight playing. Following a self-titled EP in 2000, the band released Peace in a Time of War, their first full-length album, in 2002. Influenced by the politics and musical style of reggae legend Bob Marley, the band struck a chord with fans of roots rock reggae, paving the way for the success of 2006's Get Wiser, which debuted in the Top 10 Reggae Albums on iTunes. The bands mesmerizing live show further bolstered their reputation, resulting in several successful live DVDs. Releasing eight albums in just over ten years, the ever-prolific band thrilled fans with the announcement of a ninth album in 2014.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"This show was phenomenal. The energy was INSANE, even with a smaller crowd. We drove almost 150 miles round trip just to see this show, and it was worth every minute of the monsoon we drove through. "

"The show was awesome! Great performance! If you love reggae music, you have to check them out."

"Seeing SOJA for the first time and I was impressed. All of the band members are very talented and they all jam so well together. Great live band and I definitely look forward to seeing them again!"

    Bad Vibes

by Guido on 10/16/23House of Blues Orlando - Orlando

We have seen Soja several times live over the past several years. The last time we saw them was approximately 5 years ago. The band has changed. It's clearly evident that the band members do not get along. On stage there were zero positive vibes between the band members. They wouldn't even look at each other. It was very strange. This made the concert very boring. It just seems like they are on stage for the paycheck but not for the fans or each other. Very sad:(

    FANTASTIC SHOW!

by Heiki on 2/19/23Grand Sierra Resort and Casino - Reno

Loved every minute. Couldn’t get enough. Opening with Hirie set the vibe- all good! She should travel and open with SOJA more often. SOJA never disappoints! On our feet, dancing and jumping till i got blisters on my soles. But the music filled my soul and it was beautiful. 🎶🥰🤙🌸

    Everything was Irie!

Both Hirie & Soja were excellent. Had a great time. I especially enjoyed Sonja’s new sound influenced by their recent trip to Brazil.

    Good music, medicore venue

by KC9 on 6/28/22Knitting Factory Concert House - Spokane - Spokane

Soja was great but it was hard to hear the lead singer, Jacob. There was a few obnoxious people in the pit area, but that seems to be a constant thing at this venue. Thankfully, security took care of them fairly quickly. I just didn't expect it at a Raggae concert.

    Consistently powerful impact on fans

by Miss G on 9/18/19Riverside Municipal Auditorium - Riverside

The Riverside, CA show was my 4th SOJA show of 2019. I can't say I'm a super fan but I do like this band the most, over many of this genre currently touring. The lead singer was ill and did not attend this show. The rest of the band did not disappoint. The energy and talent each individual member of this band displayed, created a fusion in the audience like no other! People were moving, singing along, hugging, howling and overall reciprocating the love SOJA brings to each show. The venue was one of a kind. It is in the heart of this quaint little city, looks a lot like a historic church hall and made the acoustics that much better. The side patio / entrance made a gorgeous backdrop for the evening, and we could taste the sweet Southern California Summer Breeze that night under the dimly lit landscape. My one gripe is the odor that permeates from the restrooms upon entering the building.. but that's for another conversation. I love SOJA and completely enjoyed seeing them at this venue!

    Amazing Show!

by Rayna on 8/27/19Riverside Municipal Auditorium - Riverside

If you're a fan of reggae music, SOJA is one of the greatest bands to see live. They are full of energy and jam like no other. It was my first time seeing them outside of a festival and was so happy I made the journey to see them headline a smaller venue.

    Soja

by C. on 8/27/19Riverside Municipal Auditorium - Riverside

It would have been nice to know ahead of time that the lead singer was ill and would not be there. The band did a great job but it wasn’t the same without Jacob and I think they should have rescheduled when he was able to perform

    Great Concert

    by J. on 8/14/19Seacrets - Ocean City

Unfortunately Jacob Hemphill was not available due to a medical emergency (per other band mates). Regardless, the show was amazing (his stand in was unreal!). The venue was awesome as always. Some of my favorite shows I've ever been to have been at Seacrets! Looking forward to the next show.

There is NEVER a disappointment when we see Soja!!!

by April on 8/14/19Seacrets - Ocean City

I was originally worried about the tickets having to be mailed and being able to get them in time but they arrived right on time. As for the show itself... Soja is NEVER disappointing even though the lead singer was not able to be there the band did an amazing job putting on a GREAT show!!

Soja without Jacob singing isn’t the same

by Kevin on 8/14/19Seacrets - Ocean City

Jacob was not singing this time around. I believe he had a medical emergency, which is fine. But Seacrets and Soja made no effort to notify their fans till 3-4 hours before the show. I bought a ton of tickets for this show so it was a huge let down on my birthday no less. I love Trevor as he’s a local performer and a great guy, but he’s backup vocals for a reason. Very disappointing show for me, I sincerely wish the venue would have allowed me to get a partial refund, or tickets for a future show. I love Soja so this was a huge let down.

    by J. O. E on 4/5/19Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom - Hampton Beach

The concert was genuinely a amazing experience the venue was awesome security and bartenders were quick, polite, and good people then Soja came on and it was the icing on the cake. Soja fans are an awesome crowd to a even more spectacular band. HIGHLY RECOMMEND to go to at least one reggae concert in your life even if you don’t really listen to the genre. Pretty much life changing! :) keep the fire burning SOJA

    Fantastic, as always!

by Mary on 4/5/19Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom - Hampton Beach

It was an excellent show! I really enjoyed this lineup. I’ve never seen Passafire before and they were really engaging. When SOJA took the stage, they were high energy and intense and it was a beautiful performance. They played a varied set, mixing old and new stuff. I’ve seen SOJA many times and I’ve never seen Jacob this emotional. He was pretty weepy and emotional during the whole show and while it was perplexing and honestly a little concerning, I feel like it added to the intensity and beauty of the performance. I feel like the highlight of the set was when they played Rest of My Life. It’s probably my favorite song, and it’s such a beautiful song and sentiment. I would recommend that everyone see SOJA at least once! They really cross borders musically and at least for me, it is a spiritual experience.
