So You Think You Can Dance Live! on Tour

As the name implies, the ‘So You Think You Can Dance' Live! tour is an extension of the long-running Fox TV series. Each year, top contestants from the show's most recent season go on the road and perform in front of live audiences. At these gigs, ‘SYTYCD' fans can expect the usual mix of inventive, high-quality choreography and solo and group spotlights. The format of the tour allows dancers to stretch out physically and emotionally, and to show off their unique personalities, which makes the night a resonant one. For the 2018 tour, the Top 10 finalists from Season 15 — including winner Hannahlei Cabanilla, a contemporary dance enthusiast from Orange County, California, and season runner-up Jensen Arnold — are hitting the road to show off their best moves, under the choreographic guidance of the Emmy-winning Mandy Moore.

About So You Think You Can Dance Live! Tour

Just as ‘American Idol' and ‘The Voice' have helped aspiring musicians launch a career, the judged competition ‘So You Think You Can Dance' has done the same for dancers. Contestants from the show, which premiered in 2005, have gone on to become professional actors and actresses, choreographers, and backup dancers for pop stars. ‘SYTYCD' itself has also become known for its innovative dance routines to popular music, and is a perennial Primetime Emmy winner, particularly in the Outstanding Choreography category.

The show's sterling track record is a testament to the stunning pool of talent on display during each season. ‘SYTYCD' doubles as a spotlight showcase for promising dancers specializing in various styles (hip-hop, jazz, contemporary), who then show off their best moves via group, pair, and individual dance performances. Each week, judges whittle down the field of competitors, before crowning one person the winner. After the season ends, the ‘So You Think You Can Dance' Live! tour gives top contestants a chance to strut their stuff in real life, up close and personal in front of the show's many, many fans.

  • So You Think You Can Dance was a great show!

by MelBRD on 9/23/09Agganis Arena - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

Bring at a show on the So You Think You Can Dance tour is like being at a taping of one of the tv shows. The dancers are so energetic and engaging, and they performed most of my favorite pieces from the season. I found myself dancing in my seat, with a perma-smile on my face. It's inspiring to watch such strong and talented dancers, and makes me want to go take some dance classes!

  • Amazing show

by IheartJEANINE on 9/23/09Agganis Arena - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

What an amazing show! They did the majority of the best routines of Season 5... My only wish was that Jeanine was in more dances..i didn't feel like she was in that many and she was my favorite and America's favorite!

  • great unless you watch the tv show

by bbqwoman on 9/23/09Agganis Arena - BostonRating: 3 out of 5

I enjoyed seeing the dancers and the dances from a different perspective from the TV screen, but I was disappointed that there was no new choreography. If you a regular watcher of the show, you know all the routines and the dancers are a little cheesy as the announcers. Amazing dancing, though.

  • So You Think You Can Go On Tour

    by Niki86 on 9/23/09Agganis Arena - BostonRating: 4 out of 5

So You Think You Can Dance Tour 2009, incase you forgot what you were seeing the numerous times they plugged the show, was a spectacular show case of raw-dance talent from across the United States. Like the show itself the cast provided scripted antics to accompany their performances and played off of one another like true actors. The tour provided audience members with a fairly accurate re-cap of the season offering up more than a dozen dance numbers from season 5. While the dancing was exquisite and the banter was campy yet fun to watch the only downfall of the production was the constant video feed in between acts. While the feets of the dancers certainly required water breaks, costume changes and a chance to breathe this audience members would have much preferred more face time with the dancers themselves rather than the same video clip from the show about their journey. As to be expected from any reality show like this (American Idol, ah-hem) there was also a shameless plug for the So You Think You Can Dance work-out video- guess the concert money didn't cover it all. If you enjoy watching exquisite dancers with rock, hard bodies perform this show is for you. If you can sit through a mix of popular, oldies and obscure music this show is for you. If the thought of over 1,000 screaming teenage girls makes you reach for your remote and crawl under the blankets, best stay there.

  • Entertainment to the Max

by DanceFanBoston on 9/23/09Agganis Arena - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

The show is full of highlights from start to finish. And you get a lot of value for your money, with a show that is 3 hours long (including one intermission). With all the introductions it feels like you are watching the show. The video backgrounds are often distracting, and the dancers attempts to act are awful, but it fades away as the dancing is the real star of the show. A fan of the show will enjoy it much more as they will anticipate seeing their favorite moments live on stage.

  • Great show!

    by Chrissy13 on 9/23/09Agganis Arena - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

This show was a solid 3 hours which made me happy because I felt as thought I got my money's worth. Production did an amazing job- everything flowed seamlessly.

  • Lighting design was horrible!

by starlightbright on 9/23/09Agganis Arena - BostonRating: 4 out of 5

I expected to be dazzled by the dancers, and I was. But I was also blinded by the lighting designer's misguided decision to shine bright lights and strobe lights into my eyes again, and again, and again. The awful, continual light show prevented me from even SEEING the dancers at times, and it gave me a nasty migraine. Fire the lighting designer!!!!

  • Good Show Crappy Seats

    by MJBM1981 on 9/23/09Agganis Arena - BostonRating: 4 out of 5

so this was my second year going to this show at that arena. last year we were up in the stands and we thought our seats were too far away, so this year we go floor seats. BIG MISTAKE!!!!!!! We were way in the back section F9 and coudn't see a thing because the stage wasn't high enough above the crowd to see anything. they had monitors, but it felt like i was watching it on television. I find it a little painful that the floor seats were more expensive than the 100's sectino seats, when they could atleast see everything. one other mention, the womens bathrooms for the floor seats were in, what i think was the visitors locker room, and there were only 2 stalls.

  • Spectacular dancing at SYTYCD

  • Season 5 was great!

by Aaaaaafan on 9/23/09Agganis Arena - BostonRating: 4 out of 5

SYTYCD Season 5 was just fabulous. Every week I would fall in love with one routine and then another. The strength, beauty, grace, and grit of all of these dancers really make you want to dance yourself - and root hard for your favorite.

  • So You Think You Can Dance Tour in Boston.

by BoscoPip on 9/23/09Agganis Arena - BostonRating: 3 out of 5

Great show. If you or your children are fans of the show, then this is a must see. The certain dance routines you have viewed on the television show were revisited and left the crowd on their feet, clapping, singing along and enjoying themselves. These dancers are wonderful and entertaining to see. Their dance routines and working the crowd, captured the audience with humor, fun, in some cases real life matters that tugged on heart strings. Lastly, for those of you with sensitive ears, I would recommend having earplugs on hand! I was surrounded by screaming kids throughout the show, that pierced right through me the entire evening. If you have an opportunity to see the show, I recommend it.

  • What you saw, was what you got.

    by SYTYCD09TOUR on 9/23/09Agganis Arena - BostonRating: 3 out of 5

The dances were not so much different from what you saw on tv but the group acts were definitely the better parts of the show. This was my first time and may be my last time since I can watch the dances on TV for free. Overall it was a good show but ruined by someone's head blocking my view.

  • Amaing!!

by Kuba on 9/23/09Agganis Arena - BostonRating: 4 out of 5

The show was really fun!! The top 10 were the hosts for the evening and they performed an unbelievable amount of numbers. It's truly amazing seeing how talented they all are.

  • WOW!

Like past years this show was absolutely amazing! What a great show!!

  • SYTYCD good show!!

    by SpecialKR4 on 9/23/09Agganis Arena - BostonRating: 4 out of 5

Though the show is definitely geared to the teenage demographic the dancing was great. They performed all the favorites from the season with a few surprise performances that were really excellent. This season had some of the best talent the show has ever had and they did not disappoint. Being an adult in my 30's I really could have down without the constant talk and introduction to the dance routines that seemed more like cheerleading than emcee work. Plus attendees were inundating with promotional material from the advertisements for the work out videos to the dancers wearing the t-shirts and sweatpants in between costume changes.

  • The Greatest Show On Earth

by Justnick on 9/23/09Agganis Arena - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

So You Think You Can Dance Live 2009 was by far the most entertaining so I have ever seen. Having attended the past 2 years live shows I thaught the entertainment I experienced could not be topped but 2009 live proved me wrong. Dance is a form of entertainment different from the usual concert or talent type show. This years dancers were amazing. It was clear that they were a tight knit group and it was show through their preformances and interaction with the audiance through the show. It was worth every penney I paid and I would gladly see it agian today if I had the opportunity.

  • SYTYCD Live was amazing!

by CandiC on 9/23/09Agganis Arena - BostonRating: 4 out of 5

SYTYCD Live 2009 was an amazing show! The top 10 dancers as well as # 11 and #12, Caitlin and Phillip performed numerous times thoughout the night. They showcased some of the most memorable numbers from the season as well as added a few unexpected pieces. The show moved fluidly with bits of comic relief in the announcements made by the dancers. It was nice to hear them speak. It made the audience feel like they knew them a bit better by the end of the show. I did wish the solos were longer. I always feel they are too short on the show and really felt that way with the live tour. Also, there was a bit too much cross promotion with all videos shown during pre-show and intermission of American Idols and the "advertising bits" for Dizzy Feet (*which IS a great cause but we didn't need to see it again at the live show) and SYTYCD workout videos and clothing. OVERALL: GREAT SHOW!

  • SYTYCD is the best!

by skarletto on 9/23/09Agganis Arena - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

This show was unbelievable. The dancers were amazing and very entertaining as they did more than just dance. The whole production was put together really well and the venue is a great place to see a show like this.

  • So You Think You Can Dance - Amazing Show

by BPKIRK on 9/23/09Agganis Arena - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

My daughter and I went to see So You Think You Can Dance Show at the Agganis Arena in Boston. All of the dancers were amazing. They put on a non-stop show and danced many of the memorable routines from Season 5. The dancers were super talented and their personalities came through as they each introduced the routines and who choreographed them. Very entertaining! I have to give KUDOS to the dancers.....they must be exhausted from their long tour, but you couldn't tell from their performances!
