So You Think You Can Dance Live! on Tour

As the name implies, the ‘So You Think You Can Dance' Live! tour is an extension of the long-running Fox TV series. Each year, top contestants from the show's most recent season go on the road and perform in front of live audiences. At these gigs, ‘SYTYCD' fans can expect the usual mix of inventive, high-quality choreography and solo and group spotlights. The format of the tour allows dancers to stretch out physically and emotionally, and to show off their unique personalities, which makes the night a resonant one. For the 2018 tour, the Top 10 finalists from Season 15 — including winner Hannahlei Cabanilla, a contemporary dance enthusiast from Orange County, California, and season runner-up Jensen Arnold — are hitting the road to show off their best moves, under the choreographic guidance of the Emmy-winning Mandy Moore.

About So You Think You Can Dance Live! Tour

Just as ‘American Idol' and ‘The Voice' have helped aspiring musicians launch a career, the judged competition ‘So You Think You Can Dance' has done the same for dancers. Contestants from the show, which premiered in 2005, have gone on to become professional actors and actresses, choreographers, and backup dancers for pop stars. ‘SYTYCD' itself has also become known for its innovative dance routines to popular music, and is a perennial Primetime Emmy winner, particularly in the Outstanding Choreography category.

The show's sterling track record is a testament to the stunning pool of talent on display during each season. ‘SYTYCD' doubles as a spotlight showcase for promising dancers specializing in various styles (hip-hop, jazz, contemporary), who then show off their best moves via group, pair, and individual dance performances. Each week, judges whittle down the field of competitors, before crowning one person the winner. After the season ends, the ‘So You Think You Can Dance' Live! tour gives top contestants a chance to strut their stuff in real life, up close and personal in front of the show's many, many fans.

  • Amazing Dancing But You've Seen It Before...

    by Rach0319 on 9/23/09Agganis Arena - BostonRating: 3 out of 5

The show was a fun event to attend and the dancers were really out of this world. You can tell they worked realyl hard. The stage was set up awsome with the screens behind the dancers that really accentuated the numbers and the mood of the routines. I very much enjoyed watching everyone perform. My one gripe was that the visability of the stage from the floor seats was VERY poor. There were people walking through the aisles the whole time and that completly blocked my view of the stage so for the majority of the performance I was craning my neck and only catching snipits of the dance. In truth, it was the same show as the finale show aired on TV and i had a much better view then. I don't think I'll ever need to go to one of these shows again, becouse like I said, its all the same stuff, but it was fun to go to nonetheless...

  • SYTYCD Love!!

by CatherineL on 9/23/09Agganis Arena - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

Agh, I loved the whole show. I also went last year, but hadn't really followed the show. But I followed Season 5 throughout the summer this time. And it's so much better when you know all the dancers and then get to see them on stage! They were magnificent. I loved how they used the traditional Russian dance routine throughout the show. It must have been a pain to change into that costume so many times... I don't really have a favorite dance because I love most of them (and I like all the dancers), but I was really excited to see Janine and Philip dance together and for the Butt Dance!

  • Dancers were great

by MemereUSA on 9/23/09Verizon Wireless Arena - Manchester - ManchesterRating: 4 out of 5

Loved the show. DIdn't care for the TV announcements and introductions of the show. Evan is a standout dancer along with Brandon. Never a let up with either one of them.

  • More amazing live..

This show is so amazing! Your favorite numbers preformed live. You laugh you cry and you shake your head in amazement at the talent of they dancers!

  • This SYTYCD tour was good, but not memorable

by justsawSYTYCD on 9/23/09Agganis Arena - BostonRating: 3 out of 5

The season 5 tour in Boston was my second SYTYCD show. The first was season 3 tour. I must say that I was a bit disappointed by this tour, mainly due to the poor lighting effects. There were lights behind the dancers which would shine straight out into the audience, blinding us all. Of course, the dancers were great -- but isn't that why we voted for them in the first place? I was a bit annoyed at the product placements (i.e. dancers wearing SYTYCD gear they were selling) and pushing for the workout DVD and the showing of the Dizzy Feet foundation clip -- which we have ALREADY seen while watching the show. There could have been more group dances. I wonder if it was due to the lack of memorable group dances this season, or the fact that they only brought 2 guest dancers (PHILIP, who ROCKED and Kaitlin) so they couldn't do the earliest group pieces without the whole crew. Overall, I would recommend this show to avid SYTYCD fans, but not to the lukewarm or mildly interested parties. NOTE: At the Agganis Arena in Boston, I would NOT recommend floor seats unless you can get in the sections right be the stage. Any seats after, then you are bound to have your view blocked somehow (especially if you are short). If you can't get those, go for stadium seats on either sides of the stage (sections 104 or 114, I believe) to get an unobstructed view of the stage.

  • This was one of the most memorable experiences!!

by Mikky on 9/23/09Agganis Arena - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

The show was buzzing with energy, fun, grace and die hard fans....that's all you need to make a show successful!

  • SYTYCD was a good time!

    by monkey76 on 9/23/09Agganis Arena - BostonRating: 4 out of 5

It was early in the tour (the second night, maybe?), and the dancers' MCing was awkward and unnatural. For the most part, the interim dialogue was really annoying, especially the bit in the dark with the flashlights. It had a bit of a "hey guys, let's get together and do a show!" feel to it. But, the dancing was fantastic and that's what I came to see! The one time Phillip did an introduction was the most comfortable and natural. The bit about "getting fit" with Kupono was hilarious, too, but it could do without Janeane adding "Did we just get plugged for the Fit dvds?" They have her stating the obvious and beating the dead horse. As far as the Aggannis Arena is concerned at BU in Boston, I was disappointed. When I purchased my tickets, the seats were described as "floor seating with full view of the stage". We most decidedly did not have full view. We could see the dancers form the waists up. If the stage was a meter or two taller, there would be no issue. The jumbotron crew need to readjust to meter for the bright lights a bit better. That said, the dancing was fantastic and it watching their talent and skill in person was really great!

  • Good show bad seating plan

by plymouthgirl on 9/23/09Agganis Arena - BostonRating: 3 out of 5

The actual show was pretty good ... what I could see of it. We had what I thought were good seats in Section F6 on the floor. Unfortunately the stage was at about the same height as the seats so unless you had a booster seat handy you pretty much couldn't see more than the back of the head of the person in front. The addiction piece and the breast cancer piece brought the house done, both were incredibly performed and warmly received. If I went again I would make sure to get "lesser" seats on the side that had a better view of the stage.

  • Better than the TV show

by bstnfn on 9/23/09Agganis Arena - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

Great to see these dancers live - you notice things you never would have seen on TV, and all the dancers get to talk on stage - even if the stuff is pretty scripted their personalities come through. Oh, and Philip's solo is out of this world. The "addiction" routine was a personal favorite.

  • So I know they can dance!!

by ggsn on 9/23/09Agganis Arena - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

If you watched and liked SYTYCD this summer, this show is must see. It had all the high points from the season, from Bollywood to disco.

  • amazing dancing

    by boston3 on 9/23/09Agganis Arena - BostonRating: 4 out of 5

I thought the dancing was incredible and the energy was great. My only complaint is there was to much talking between the dancing. If you are a fan and you watch the show, you know the dances. I felt that the explainations were to long. Would have loved to have seen more of the group dances.

  • It Lived Up To Expectations!

    by Chipmunk9 on 9/23/09Agganis Arena - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

I was not expecting that much from the show, as it usually is just the same dance routines that you see on TV. There were those favorites that we saw, but they had included some new routines for the whole group as well. This was refreshing, and it kept me interested. The dancing was great, mind you they were not dancing for their lives, but you could tell that they were enjoying it. Somehow, Kupono came across as the one to enjoy the show more, I think that is because he is going to be a performer beyond his dance moves, he feeds on the noise and the audience. The performance was still new and fresh for the dancers, being early in the schedule, so you could tell that they were still energized by the reactions they were receiving, and a few marriage proposals!

  • Great!

    by kq333 on 9/23/09Agganis Arena - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

This show was packed full of the things you love about the TV show! Voice overs of Cat and Nigel and the rest of the crew was almost as good as if they were really there. The cast was amazing and the performances were exceptional! Even though I thought the writing for the casts talking parts sounded too corny (like being on a cruise or at Sea World), they offered good information and interesting life stories of themselves which was touching. I definately recommend this to anyone. Get good seats though, we were in the back and even though they had TV prompters, it would have been a little better if we were close enough to see the emotions of the dancers during their performances. They were all still great and I really enjoyed it!

  • It was a very good show!!

by Rostar on 9/23/09Agganis Arena - BostonRating: 4 out of 5

I really enjoyed this show. It was very well put together. It was funny and very entertaining. The dancers and dance routine were amazing I would definitely recommend this show to others.

  • SYTYCD was Amazing

by DebMA on 9/23/09Agganis Arena - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

It was much better than I expected. You really were able to see the dancer's personalities. it was funnier than I thought and they performed all of my favorite routines from Season 5. I highly recommend it. My 8 year old dancers were even enthralled the entire time.

  • SYTYCD was awesome!!!

by WannaBeSYTYCDer on 9/23/09Agganis Arena - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

Went last year, loved it and this year exceeded expectations yet again! The dancers are so impressive on TV, but even better in person. And the dancers seemed to engage with the audience so much better this year. Truly a night to remember :)

  • SYTYCD Live Tour Boston

    by Schooner1882 on 9/23/09Agganis Arena - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

WOW! Just great! All the spirit and life of the competition, and more. Just sweet to see the top 10 plus 2 live. They did an excellent job introducing one another, staged a creative and humorous comeback of the Russian folk dance - so well integrated with the show! I highly recommend attending SYTYCD Live tour 2009. The dancers were wonderful, the dances were wonderful!

  • Awesome Show!

    by JBB01 on 9/23/09Agganis Arena - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

We enjoyed every minute of the live tour show. The dancers were fabulous. The music, lights, sets and costumes were great. I highly recommend this to anyone who loves dance.

  • Amazing Season - amazing tour!!!

    by SashaSasha1565 on 9/23/09Agganis Arena - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

I saw the tours for season 3 and season 4, but I honestly think the season 5 tour was the best yet! There was a good variety of routines performed hitting all of the genres and almost all my favorites were performed. The dancers did a great job emceeing the performance and the comic relief provided by Philip and Jeanine was most excellent! I love SYTYCD!

  • So You Think You Can Dance incredible!

by snpgirl on 9/23/09Agganis Arena - BostonRating: 4 out of 5

The show was very well put together, the dancers were amazing and very engaging. It is so great to see talented young dancers getting the opportunity to perform and the recognition of their hard work and talent. This organization is not only putting on a very entertaining show, but they are helping dancers find success in their careers, including going on to be choreographers, performers, teachers, directors and more. The cast is clearly a very tight knit "family", and this showed in their enthusiastic support for one another. The whole show was a joy to watch, and the audience was totally in to it. The only down side was the venue which is not really set up for dance. The sight line from the floor seats was not good, and all the other seats were on the sides which didn't give a good view of the choreography, but my husband and I (yes I got him to go) loved the show!
