About

Andrew McManus Presents is pleased to announce that legendary Scottish rock band Simple Minds are heading to Australia. They will play an exclusive show in Sydney's luxurious Lyric Theatre in Star City on Thursday, February 25th, before heading to Melbourne for their one off performance at the Melbourne Grand Prix Sunday, March 28th. The band will then continue onto New Zealand again for one exclusive concert at The Civic, Auckland on Tuesday 30 March.

Simple Minds rose to worldwide popularity in the mid 80s to early 90s securing a string of successful hit singles, the best known being their number one worldwide hit Don't You (Forget About Me) plus hit singles Waterfront, Promised You a Miracle, Alive and Kicking and Belfast Child. They've experienced many milestones in their 30-year career, including performing at Live Aid and headlining the Freedomfest concerts for the then-imprisoned Nelson Mandela.

Simple Minds Sydney performance will be with support from popular late 80's & 90's Australian band 1927.  Formed in Melbourne in 1987 with James Barton on drums, Bill Frost on bass guitar, his brother Garry Frost on guitar and keyboards, and Eric Weideman on vocals, guitar and keyboards, their major hit songs were "If I Could", "Compulsory Hero" and "That's When I Think of You" from their multi-platinum #1 album ...ish.  In 2009, 1927 celebrated their 20th Anniversary with a national tour which has continued into 2010 with various shows nationally.

by NewYorkMike on 10/23/18Grand Sierra Resort and Casino - Reno

I've seen Simple Minds a few times over the years. They keep getting better. They sound amazing. Their energy is contagious and their passion and enthusiasm is clear. By far, best show I've seen of them.

We didn't forget about you - Simple Minds!

by ILFan2 on 10/22/18The Chicago Theatre - Chicago

Having grown up in the 80’s & wanting to see the music artists of the 80’s decade - Jim, Charlie & the Simple Minds band didn’t disappoint. The drummer Cherisse was fantastic…..She’s a keeper for sure, don’t ever lose her. Sarah Brown is talented as well….She can belt out those high ones & complements the band nicely! The whole band was tight & right on cue. Jim’s voice is still current & he hasn’t lost it & can still rev up & work the crowd. The only thing I can find fault with is, I would have liked to hear Jim’s voice more, it seemed the band overshadowed his voice at times. They played a mixture of new music off there new album & old stuff from the 80’s – We loved it! We’re so glad they decided to come to the USA & tour – Don’t be strangers & come back, there’s a whole lot of fans still wanting to hear you! An overall great concert, that wasn't overproduced on all the techy stuff - Just an old-fashioned concert that you can dance & sing-along too! The beautiful Chicago Theater is a great venue to see a concert, had great seats in the Loge section. 3 rows in this section & it was like you were right up front, although I would have chosen the 1st row as it has ledge & more leg room to spread out & dance!

I've loved this band for years and finally got to see them and it was even better than I expected. They are entertainers as well as musicians and they had great energy and interacted with the audience, so it was so much fun to dance and listen to.

by MichN on 10/18/18The Chicago Theatre - Chicago

To hear the band in their own words and witness two preshow songs via soundcheck was a once in a lifetime opportunity. The Simple Minds swag (poster, lanyard and soccer scarf) were an added bonus!

Wow, what a show. Spaced me out. Very hypnotic, and mind blowing. Sat at the very top of the Fillmore and could not believe the sound up there. Would see them again. I always get tickets up close but being a mile away was awesome.

    Simple y amazing

by Oldscotslass on 10/18/18The Chicago Theatre - Chicago

30 years since I last saw them and in that time they have not lost any of their energy or showmanship. Their old music is timeless and their new is fantastic. They still have a voice and a way to command a stage. Charlies guitar is at times haunting and riveting . Jim can rock out like the star he is and gives credit where it's due to the others. The current band line up is brilliant.
