Shrine Circus on Tour

For more than a century, the Shrine Circus has dazzled audiences around the U.S. with family-friendly delights. Shriners chapters all over the country sponsor these circuses annually, offering their members a chance to reach out to the community and giving children of all ages the chance to see thrilling stunts and exotic animals at reasonable prices. The Shrine Circus has been a bedrock of many American communities' yearly calendars for decades, creating a long-lasting tradition that builds bonds both in and between families.

Shrine Circus Background

Established in 1872, Shriners International has been one of America's premier fraternities promoting fellowship and brotherhood. Known throughout the world for their philanthropic efforts with Shriners Hospitals for Children, which offers sliding-scale medical services to children in need of orthopedic, cleft lip and palate, burn, and spinal injury care, the Shriners have also been beloved for the circuses they put on around the country.

Similar to the mission of the Shriners Hospitals, the Shrine Circus puts the idea of affordability for all families front and center. The first Shrine Circus was held in 1906 in Detroit at the Moslem Shrine Center. Since then, Shrine chapters all around the country have put on their own versions of the big show. While the circuses are more often held inside arenas than under big tops, attractions remain familiar, varying from city to city but usually including massive elephants, kooky yet friendly clowns, and high-flying acrobats.

Circus stars like the Wallendas, Clyde Beatty, and the Zacchinis have all been included in the Shrine Circus' past lineups. In 2019, the Detroit Shrine Circus featured the Dominguez Motorcycle Stunt Show, made up of former Ringling Bros. daredevils who perform death-defying tricks while encased in a steel globe. The St. Paul Osman Shrine Circus is the longest continuously running Shrine Circus in the U.S.

    Used to be better

by Andy I on 11/21/23Cable Dahmer Arena - Independence

Used to take my kids every year when they were young. Haven't been in while and decided to take the granddaughter. The kids always enjoyed going down on the floor and seeing the clowns and animals beforehand. They even rode the elephants and ponies. The prices were reasonable and you felt good knowing your dollars went to a good cause. But now the value isn't there. In fact, it's more of a commercial rip off like Ringling. It cost $160 for three of us to walk in the door. Then, $20 to ride the elephant, $15 to ride the camel, and another $15 to ride the pony. They even wanted $10 to take a picture with a snake. Don't even ask about the high priced cheap Chinese toys. The Shriners Circus is a total commercial rip off now. We won't be going back.

    Payment

by Renee on 11/21/23Cable Dahmer Arena - Independence

The circus was good, but on the website it specifically said debit/credit cards were only acceptable payment. Kids wanted to ride the slide and other animals, but only cash was allowed. They were extremely disappointed.

    Making memories

by Single dad on 11/20/23Cable Dahmer Arena - Independence

With a three year old daughter, and knowing that the circus could become a thing of the past… I wanted to be sure, my daughter experienced some of the memories that I myself had as a child. The Shriners circus delivered those memories… making new ones on my little girl… she absolutely loved it. As did I. It’s all about the kids ! Support the Shriners It’s worth it.

    So fun!

    by Crystal on 11/19/23

Fun for the whole family! Very entertaining acts. A good mix between on the edge of your seat danger, adorable animals, pure talent, with some comedy every once in a while.

    Great time!

by Kelly on 11/19/23Cable Dahmer Arena - Independence

The shrine circus was wonderful! We had second row seats. We loved the smaller venue. It was very affordable and the shrine clowns were wonderful. Free parking was also great!

    It was okay

by Lena on 4/8/23Five Flags Center - Dubuque

Was expecting more thrilling acts and possibly more clowns because it is a circus. Sad my son couldn't ride the elephant because it was not available but the camel and ponies did fine. The prices are a bit pricey but what do you expect. Overall it was an okay experience. Not too bad.

    It was ok..

by Skyler on 4/5/23Fargodome - Fargo

I think there’s room for improvement. They should just stop with the animals, they all looked like they didn’t want to be there. Poor things it’s probably so bright & loud for them. I think a real clown would have been better than the other clown they had. The people doing their acts were good, fun for children.

Nice to have the circus back in town

by FlyND on 4/4/23Fargodome - Fargo

It was nice to take the grandkids to the circus. We all had a good time. Overall, the show was good. I missed seeing more of the bigger animals in the circus and really missed the high wire and trapeze acts of which there were none in this show. Room for improvement but still fun!

    We loved the pigs!

by Ann A Banana on 4/4/23Fargodome - Fargo

This was a super fun event. My daughter and I took 4 little girls to the circus. We loved the pigs! We have never seen trained pigs and they were so cute! We ate pickles on a stick with pretzels. It was fun acrobats, motorcycle stunts and multiple jump rope / gymnastics entertainment. Very unusual stuff to experience. Enjoyed it all!!

    Unbelievable!

by Jpl on 4/3/23Fargodome - Fargo

I haven't been to a Shrine Circus since I was probably in 3rd or 4th grade. I was a little worried bringing three little kids there because of that. Nothing to be worried about at all! It was AMAZING! If we didnt live so far away we would have totally went back again Saturday. What a fun thing to have for families around the area. Cant wait for next year!

by Lisa on 3/21/23Glass City Center (formerly Seagate Centre) - Toledo

I took two of my granddaughters to the circus. It was their first time going. They loved it!! The only thing I didn’t like about it was there were no elephants. I’m sure there are reasons for that. I just missed seeing them. All the acts and entertainers were awesome!!!
