Shrine Circus on Tour

For more than a century, the Shrine Circus has dazzled audiences around the U.S. with family-friendly delights. Shriners chapters all over the country sponsor these circuses annually, offering their members a chance to reach out to the community and giving children of all ages the chance to see thrilling stunts and exotic animals at reasonable prices. The Shrine Circus has been a bedrock of many American communities' yearly calendars for decades, creating a long-lasting tradition that builds bonds both in and between families.

Shrine Circus Background

Established in 1872, Shriners International has been one of America's premier fraternities promoting fellowship and brotherhood. Known throughout the world for their philanthropic efforts with Shriners Hospitals for Children, which offers sliding-scale medical services to children in need of orthopedic, cleft lip and palate, burn, and spinal injury care, the Shriners have also been beloved for the circuses they put on around the country.

Similar to the mission of the Shriners Hospitals, the Shrine Circus puts the idea of affordability for all families front and center. The first Shrine Circus was held in 1906 in Detroit at the Moslem Shrine Center. Since then, Shrine chapters all around the country have put on their own versions of the big show. While the circuses are more often held inside arenas than under big tops, attractions remain familiar, varying from city to city but usually including massive elephants, kooky yet friendly clowns, and high-flying acrobats.

Circus stars like the Wallendas, Clyde Beatty, and the Zacchinis have all been included in the Shrine Circus' past lineups. In 2019, the Detroit Shrine Circus featured the Dominguez Motorcycle Stunt Show, made up of former Ringling Bros. daredevils who perform death-defying tricks while encased in a steel globe. The St. Paul Osman Shrine Circus is the longest continuously running Shrine Circus in the U.S.

  • Amazing

by Niki on 4/24/24Tyson Events Center - Sioux CityRating: 5 out of 5

It has been several year since I have been to the Shrine Circus. I can say they did not disappoint. It was very upbeat and colorful with constant entertainment. All of the performers were incredibly talented. The family and I will attend again next year, if given the opportunity.

  • Pretty good

by Gram on 4/24/24Tyson Events Center - Sioux CityRating: 3 out of 5

First, Ticketmaster prices are ridiculously high! Upon entering Tyson event center, we were bombarded with buying stuff. Ugh. Tight rope walkers, motorcyclists, contortionists, & people who jumped on teeter toter etc were excellent! Some of the other stuff was simply ok. Prices for camel rides, pony rides, inflatables, train, & face painting was too much.

  • Had a great time

We had a great time with our three year old at the circus. A great mix of animals and performers!

  • It was okay

by Ann on 4/23/24Tyson Events Center - Sioux CityRating: 3 out of 5

We have gone to the circus the last 3 times they have been in town. It was basically the same show from previous years and rides/activities are way overpriced. 15 dollars for a lap on the camels. Don't think we will be back next year.

  • Good circus, unfortunate experience at food lines

by Fargoan on 4/10/24Fargodome - FargoRating: 4 out of 5

The circus itself was great. Entertaining for kids and adults. Fargodome could improve concessions. We had to mix and match the lines for fountain soda, bottled soda, popcorn, and chicken tenders. After paying $12 for chicken tenders and waiting in a different line for popcorn, another person ran straight into us knocking our food out of our hands, $12 wasted. It’s an always chaotic nightmare getting food. Nobody at the dome cared, just your fault for not hanging on tighter.

The kids had a great time. In fact, all of us did. The activities on the floor were awesome! As far as the circus acts, I was really impressed with the motorcycle acts. I also loved the animals.

  • Very Disappointed

by Upset Mama on 1/31/24Allen County War Memorial Coliseum - Fort WayneRating: 2 out of 5

I am very disappointed in the circus, I feel like the elephant rides and prices for toys are ridiculous, like really badly priced for what you get. Food is high but its to be expected. Also there were no lions, no acrobatics as advertised. Im so disappointed i feel like i wouldn't miss a thing if i never attended again, honestly wish i could get mt ticket money back.

  • Great show!

by Jmc7228 on 1/30/24Allen County War Memorial Coliseum - Fort WayneRating: 5 out of 5

It was my first time, as well as six year old grandsons, going to a circus. We really enjoyed the show as well as the venue. Ordering the tickets online was quick, easy, and secure. My grandsons were just as excited after the show when we went down to the expo center to see the circus animals up close. I think it was well worth the money.

  • Wonderful show!!!

by Teddibrr on 1/30/24Allen County War Memorial Coliseum - Fort WayneRating: 5 out of 5

It was an amazing show! Every performer was skilled in their trade. We ooooohed and aahhhhhhhhhed more times than I can count. My grand grabbed his mom's hand and put it over his eyes, just to peek in between her fingers 5 seconds later! Vendors were very nice to as was the coliseum staff. And the clowns being out at intermission interacting with the crowd was amazing! 10/10 will go next year!
