Excellent show, but not “Broadway” quality.
by Jactripp on 5/13/24Broome County Forum Theatre - BinghamtonI was very excited to see Shrek The Musical, as I’ve seen high school productions as well as the actual Broadway production on TV. This was a different interpretation I was not prepared for. The first major difference was the use of puppets as replacements for the younger versions of Shrek and Fiona. This was really odd. And the puppets were a bit scary. The scenery was very minimal. Scene changes were non existent, other than adding props to allude to a different part of the story, or lighting changes for time of day. Then there was Lord Farquad. Traditionally he is played by a normal sized man on his knees making him short. Their actor was normal sized, so the short jokes were eliminated, instead focusing on his feminine hair and qualities. Overall, the show was fun and the actors extremely talented, but was a different version of the original Broadway production.
