Amazing!! Only problem is it was too politically, correct

by Bell on 3/15/24Ford Wyoming Center - Casper

It was a fantastic experience, had such a wonderful time, watching it with my family. I liked that the props and costumes were simple, but complex at the same time, I really liked the additional jokes they put in and more depth to the story that was added. the only problems I did have with it, was that Lord farquad was not short, and That it was extremely politically correct, which took away a lot of the Humor that was in the original musical. But overall it was fabulous

    Fantastic entertainment

by Fun night out on 3/15/24Ford Wyoming Center - Casper

My son and I went, he is 26 and still LOVES Shrek, so he texted me one day and said "Mom, if I buy tickets, will you go to Shrek the Musical with me". I wasn't too sure, but I told him, "Sure". I figured it would be a good night out with my kiddo. IT WAS AMAZING! We had SO much fun, the cast was wonderful, the story line was entertaining and the orchestra was lively and the whole experience was fantastic. I'm so glad I went, and I hope to enjoy more entertainment like this, but Shrek is definitely worth seeing!

Disappointing compared to the original play from years ago

by Original Shrek The Musical Lover on 3/13/24Arizona Financial Theatre - Phoenix

We saw the original Shrek the Musical touring Broadway play somewhere between 2010-2012, and we loved it! It was so clever and fun. It has been a great memory for our family. I have hoped for years that this production would go back on tour so I could take my youngest child that didn't see it with us before. I was so excited to see that it was touring again. However, it is not the same show. It is not on the level of a Broadway production. The scenery was similar to something you might see in a local high school play. Costuming was minimal. The cast was small, and some characters were played by puppets (that appeared creepy). The cast did not have the strong amazing singing voices we have come to know as part of Broadway shows. The exception being with the Dragon, who had a strong character, singer and costume. I missed the old Lord Farquad (on his knees - so clever) and they took out some of the best songs. "Don't Let Me Go". I have read that the production was reimagined by Jeanine Tesori and David Lindsay-Abaire, but I did not like the new format at all. If it isn't broken, why fix it? This is not the caliber of show you are expecting when you go to a Broadway show. I'm glad my friend did not go to see the show I hyped up, as I would have been embarrassed that this is not the same show I recommended. I just hope that someday they will retour the original production. Please bring it back! PLEASE!

    Full-price ticket for low-budget tour

by Guest on 3/13/24Arizona Financial Theatre - Phoenix

The show itself (book and music) is good and the cast is certainly talented. The production quality, though, reminded me of a school production. Costumes, set, lighting, and sound was way below my expectations for a touring company of a Broadway musical. And the theater (Arizona Financial Theater) was ill-equipped to put on a theater production. The production and theater came off as low-budget, but the tickets were just as much, if not more, than the larger, better produced tours that are performed at a theater designed to appropriately put on a show from a Broadway tour. From now on I’m sticking with the big-name tour groups (i.e., Broadway Across America). And I’ll NEVER see another theater production at Arizona Financial Theater. The show was fine, but it was definitely not worth the price for the ticket.

    Beyond expectation

I have seen some other shows in Arizona and this one had next level production value. The cast and crew were all amazing.

    Decent - not amazing

by Ardy R on 3/12/24Arizona Financial Theatre - Phoenix

I’ve seen Shrek done on stage a couple of times and this performance was just ok. I prefer when Lord Farquad is short. The cast did a great job and we loved the 2 Young Fiona voices.

    Well Performed, Mediocre Music

by MetalHeadGrandpa on 3/12/24Arizona Financial Theatre - Phoenix

The Good - well sung and acted, clever minimalist set, followed story of the movie well The Bad - original score for the musical was lackluster. Not bad, just nothing memorable. Also, theater was ice cold. So cold it detracted from the experience.

    High schoolish

by None on 3/11/24Arizona Financial Theatre - Phoenix

The venue did not seem as professional as other Broadway theaters. The main actors were phenomenal but the ensemble, sound, set and costuming were not great. I paid too much for the tickets to really enjoy it.

    Waste of Money

by Chase on 3/11/24Centennial Hall - Tucson

I was extremely excited for this musical. It was underwhelming in every way. The decorations looked like a child made them, the songs were poorly written and performed and very much took away from the Shrek experience that relies so heavily on it. The costumes looked like Party City outfits at best. I was in a group of 8 and we all left at intermission. So many people were leaving security was trying to warn groups that it was only intermission and not the end of the musical. Worst one I have ever seen.

Very enjoyable!! The acting and singing were terrific! A great way to relax and laugh! The acoustics were fine- no issues with not being able to understand or hear the talking or singing.

    Overall very good

by Runtillimdead on 3/11/24Centennial Hall - Tucson

Play was done very well. The acoustics in the Centennial hall are what make it a little rough to enjoy it the full 100%. Props were good, lighting was very good.

    Sadly disappointed

by Lex on 3/10/24Centennial Hall - Tucson

Shrek the musical was not at all as it is advertised as. It seemed very cheap compared to the one I saw a few years ago. I feel like there weren’t enough cast members, and the backdrop was very minimal granted there were some funny lines that I had not heard before. The costumes also seemed cheaply made as for everyone was wearing a black leotard under all the costumes and throwing a couple items on top. I was throwing on a few different items. This is one of my favorite musicals and it was very disappointing

Good show but surprised at the end

by AprilB on 3/9/24Centennial Hall - Tucson

My kids (14 years old) and I enjoyed this show. It was fairly close to the cartoon movie, except for the end during the "Let Your Freak Flag Fly"song. I was a little surprised at the gay inferences in this section of the play. Although I didn't have any problems with it, those who don't want their children exposed to this might want to avoid the show. However, we thought the creativity of the adaptation to the stage, the singers, and the experience overall was terrific!

I wasn't sure what to expect at first, but we loved it! It was very creative and innovative with so much heart and laughter. Nice job to all the performers who did not disappoint.

The whole show was terrible. The music the sound. The costumes. Never had a worse experience. Left before half time was so bad....
