Shen Yun Performing Arts is a triumph of collaboration, bringing together over a hundred of the world's foremost classically trained Chinese dancers, choreographers, musicians, and vocalists. It also boasts the world's only full orchestra that embraces both Western and Chinese instruments as its permanent members.
Based in New York, Shen Yun Performing Arts is distinguished by its conscious effort to remain independent of China's communist regime, which has abused and impoverished the arts for decades. It is proud to thus include members who practice Falun Gong. The company aspires to create original performances that not only entertain, but also more deeply educate, enrich, and inspire. The company's rich repertory is drawn from the pages of history, universal themes, and the world around us. All choreography and music performed are original.
It’s a good show, but I don’t like the use of the video too much
As a former performer, I am the type of person who tries to find subtle flaws when I am spectating, from dancers in the back who think they aren’t being watched, to synchronicity. I never saw a moment where I felt as though something was off. The projector and the way it was used was a highlight for me, I have never seen anything like it before. I was completely satisfied with my experience.
Near perfection in every way, with world class dancers, superb staging and inspiring music and stories that reaches deeply into one’s soul.
This is something that needs to be seen. Dance groups in perfect sync with each other aided by subtle hand and prop use that leaves you wondering how that could happen with everyone at the same moment. A combination of some gymnastics shows the talent and commitment to work by these performers. A very nice performance.
It was the most amazing thing I have ever seen. Music, dances and colors were incredible! It took my breath away.
Just looking at the tv ads doesn’t do it justice. The dance routines could not have been better. The songs were very good
The interactive background was amazing and fun to experience. Elaborate costumes and choreography made for an amazing experience
The dancing, singing, music were outstanding. There was too much political references and apologizing in various numbers which left me feeling that they were not just trying to preserve the ancient cultured.
First time but it won’t be the last time. We love the music 🎶 and the story line.
Excellent performance of artwork, music, songs and dances displaying the cultural of China. Loved the colorful outfits and the choreography’s was at its finest showmanship. Each time I have seen the show it leaves me in awe ( in a good mood).
Second time seeing and each season is a different performance. While it doesn’t disappoint, I must admit, my “wow” was more for the first time I experienced it. Unless taking someone who has never seen before, don’t think I’ll need to see again. But beautiful nonetheless.
From the music to the dancers and video graphics on the screen. It was amazingly done. Only bad part is the markup on tickets from Ticket master.
If you love the arts, visuals, dance, and good music, it's a good show that's for sure; but WAY too expensive in my opinion for what it is. Also bear in mind that you will have to put up with some parts where they will try to persuade you to join the Falun Gong cult and tell you that if you believe in "modern trends"like atheism and evolution, you will not go to heaven :)
I’ve been curious about this production for many years and finally decided to see a performance. I took my 91 yo mother, my 77 yo mother in law, and my wife, which cost a pretty fair amount for a matinee show. I’d have to admit, our mothers were really impressed, but my wife and I much less so. They mentioned they develop a new production every year, and perhaps they have run out of ideas. I did enjoy 3-4 of the dance numbers, but the rest seemed very repetitive, like they were struggling to fill the two hours of the show. Costumes were somewhat basic, and set/scenery were non-existent. Having never been, I wasn’t sure what exactly to expect, but was somewhat un-impressed with the show. I’ve been much more impressed with just about every musical, ballet, or traveling show I’ve ever seen. Once home my mother was trying to explain what we saw to my sister, so I brought up some older dances preformed previous years. They were much, much more impressive, both the dances and the costumes. No doubt it is difficult to come up with an entirely new show every year, but from what we saw, I’d say they have run out of ideas.
My husband and I really enjoyed the entire show. Very entertaining, beautiful costumes, great story telling and music, amazing acrobatics and dance numbers, and exceptional special effects used with the big screen! It was a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon. Well done!
Revealed the authentic pure ancient Chinese culture and contemporary society. There is no contaminated elements. No brain wash. No lies. The music is phenomenon. The dance is outstanding. The organization, the choreography and pianist are excellent. Workers are enthusiastic. The singing part is not my favorite.
My only regret is I couldn’t take pictures. For my memory and to show others how amazing it was!
The show was pretty different than what was shown on the video presentation. Such a big gap. The stories were constantly interrupted by the storytellers, who found that disruptive and not engaging..
Costumes, lighting and production was very very good.
Overrated. I wish I did not bother going to this show. It was a waste of money.
