    Bossanova magic

by e. r. on 10/23/19Bergen Performing Arts Center - Englewood

Full of energy and talent. From the latest evolution of bossanova melodies, rhythms, and rhymes to how it all evolved into a genre of music. Bebel and Sergio are the perfect ambassadors of its spirit.

    Senor Mendez still has it

by Bobfellow on 10/30/18The Soraya (The Valley's Center for the Performing Arts) - Northridge

Originally saw him and Brazil 66 in 1967 in So Cal and he appears to found ways to get even better. He was at the Soraya Center in Northridge and the venue was perfect for enjoying an intimate evening with Sergio and his crew.

    It was o.k.

by GeeLT on 10/30/18The Soraya (The Valley's Center for the Performing Arts) - Northridge

First, Sergio Mendez was only half of the program. The opening act was almost all in Spanish which I do not understand. Mr. Mendez' presentation was quite average...He did a couple of the songs I remember well from the distant past, but that was not worth the cost and effort to attend. Sorry 'bout dat--I was really looking forward to the show.

    Very disappointing!

by Bossanovalover1 on 7/3/18Sony Hall - New York

The sound was terrible, the choice of songs was very poor! They tried to mix it with classical Bossa nova with American rap and american classics from 80-th. But it did not work! The quality of singers was worse than in regular cruise ship band. Very disappointing, ne is just using his name to make money on the low-quality shows. Too bad...

    Mas que nada!

by DIKSAM on 7/3/18Sony Hall - New York

The guy is a seasoned entertainer. And what he says between songs is refreshing. The band is wonderful. The blend between samba and modern urban music is great. The show was "Mas que nada". I can wait for the next one...

    Sergio Medes at Bergen Pac

by BlueKayak on 10/21/17Bergen Performing Arts Center - Englewood

The great Brazilian performer Sergio Mendes brought an all-star band to Bergen PAC in Englewood for one wonderful performance. Gracinha Leporace, his wife, continues to perform with him and display the blend of talents that has been their hallmark for decades. The excellent Brazilian percussionist, lead guitar, and bass guitar were joined by two Americans. There was no written program, but I think the other singer was Kate Hudson from LA, and the keyboardist/saxophonist/flutist was from Rochester. Always great to see a Legend in person!

    Sergio Mendes was great!

by Recordbiz on 10/21/17Bergen Performing Arts Center - Englewood

Sergio Mendes has not lost a step in over 50 years. Loved the show. His band and the singers were great, although,no one can ever replace Lani Hall, in my opinion. Her voice is the voice of Sergio Mendes and for me always will be. Loved the hip hop influence also. Wish they had done more of their hits, though, like “So many Stars”, etc.

Sergio Mendez and Brazil 66-Bossa Nova legend!

by Ltjb on 11/4/16Neal S Blaisdell Concert Hall - Honolulu

Music was fabulous. Great musicians in this band. His 2 female lead and back-up singers are very good. Sergio Mendez still has a decent voice. Most of his Bossa Nova hits were covered and left the audience in total music bliss. He incorporates some rap numbers, which seems to be an attempt to appeal to younger audiences; however, I am sure most of the audience come to hear Bossa Nova and not rap. For me, the inclusion of rap music is a distraction from the great Bossa Nova music he is known for. Nonetheless, this concert was musical joy to me and it was over too soon.

    Sergio was Awesome!!!

by Musikologist on 10/22/16B.B. King Blues Club & Grill - New York

I've been a fan of Sergio Mendez for 50 years. He was responsible for introducing America to Brazilian music 50 years ago along with Stan Getz, Charlie Byrd and Astrude. He covered everything from the Beatles to Burt Bacharach. I loved his wife on Vocals. Sergio is a master arranger and I loved his Keyboard playing.

    Sergio Mendes is astounding!

by Marianthe on 10/19/16B.B. King Blues Club & Grill - New York

I am most fortunate to have experienced ( live!) the music I came to love as a child. The musical accompaniment was incredible. Sergio himself is a true legend in every sense. His timing was impeccable , voice is just as strong as on the records my parents played, and stage presence as big as a building. Even my heavy-metal husband was deeply touched by this once- in-a -lifetime show. The only complaint from me was the tragic reality that this venue was a dinner theater; hence , no dance floor !

    Sergio still has it!

by summerjenny on 10/18/16B.B. King Blues Club & Grill - New York

Sergio and Brazil '66 were great. They played all of their popular songs as well as some new ones that were made with Will i. Am. The concert lasted just over an hour. The food and drinks were very expensive. The food was average.

    True Professionals...

by Foxhunter63 on 10/17/16NYCB Theatre at Westbury - Westbury

Thoroughly enjoyed my evening listening to the great Sergio Mendes and Sheila E. Both are consummate professionals and enjoy entertaining their audiences, which is sometimes lacking in todays industry. They had a somewhat older audience participating, singing and dancing. Like James Brown, I would have to nickname Sheila E. as the "hardest working woman in show business". She truly cares about her craft..... Sergio was masterful on the piano

    Shelia E

by mrsax on 10/16/16NYCB Theatre at Westbury - Westbury

I have to report that I was not a Prince fan I understand that he might have launched shelia E into the limelight , the concert was great She let the audience share her love of music as well as that of her mentor .I would recommend tht if you can see her live go this cannot be said of Mr Mendes .I know he was never a singer, but neither is his aging female .if not for the voice and stage presence of the younger of the two females, It would have been a bigger failure

    A great night.

by RichCor on 10/16/16NYCB Theatre at Westbury - Westbury

Sheila E. opening was an unexpected home run. As far as Sergio Mendes, the group certainly has gone through changes but the sound is as good as it was when I bought their first LP fifty years ago.
