School of Rock on tour - The ultimate field trip!

Andrew Lloyd Weber's high-octane Broadway & West End hit will soon be rocking up to a city near you! Based on the hit film, this irresistible new musical follows Dewey Finn, a failed, wannabe rock star who decides to earn a few extra bucks by posing as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school. There he turns a class of straight-A students into a guitar-shredding, bass-slapping, mind-blowing rock band.

School of Rock The Musical ROCKS!

by P. B. on 1/12/19DeVos Performance Hall - Grand Rapids

Truly enjoyed the show and the performances of Merritt David Janes and the rest of the cast! MDJ was super in his role as Dewey. The young people were awesome and so talented! The show was very entertaining and we loved it! The songs were great and so catchy I keep singing them in my head...especially Stick it to the Man! As a teacher, I know what that special student-teacher relationship is and how it that was experienced by Dewey. Everyone should see School of Rock...it ROCKS!

    Very Good but,,,

by LeftyMH on 11/7/18Saenger Theatre New Orleans - New Orleans

School of Rock in New Orleans was very good but not excellent like we saw in New York. The actors, particularly the children, did not play or sing or act as good as in NYC. Usually, the traveling Broadway shows are pretty much on par with Broadway but School of Rock was a notch below. Still, it was an enjoyable experience.

    Fun Date Night

by StratnCat on 10/16/18The Orpheum Theatre Memphis - Memphis

Kids were amazing and they all play their own instruments. Lead looks and sounds just like Jack Black. Besides a bit of Rock Opera music from Weber and Rice - this musical is an easy digest and fun for a date night.

    The play was entertaining.

by Chipjuice on 10/16/18The Orpheum Theatre Memphis - Memphis

Though the play entertained, I observed how it included much of the downwards spirals our society has embraced or is unconscious to. But that's rock, so it was true to its platform. Notwithstanding, the play's theatrics and talent is not short of an applause. Definitely entertaining.

I would see this again and again and again

by Kvjones919 on 10/16/18The Orpheum Theatre Memphis - Memphis

I took my 6-year-old daughter to see this, which I noticed was a common error among the other moms. While most of the adult humor went over her head and I am not conservative in the least bit, I noticed some families around us that were a little shocked by the language used. Honestly, the language made the play 100x better and I wish we could go see it again before it leaves town. I highly recommend!!

The play was filled with talented actors/actresses! The musical talent of the kids was amazing. They exceeded our expectations! Loved the play! My daughters favorite movie and she had the best time and we even purchased the soundtrack and listened to it all the way home.

    Family show? Perhaps not

by SMCC01 on 10/15/18The Orpheum Theatre Memphis - Memphis

This was billed as a family show, and I expected it to be similar in content to the movie. Unfortunately, approximately 1 hour into the show, the father of one of the kids (the fashionista boy) exclaims 'G_dd_mmit', which I find not only unnecessary (why not just 'd_mmit'?) but very inappropriate for a family show and offensive to me as a Christian. I cannot review the show further as I left the show at that point with my 2 Grandsons. It's a shame since we had all been looking forward to the show, had recently enjoyed the movie, and had been enjoying it up to that point.

    School of Rock

by PB43 on 8/29/18Music Hall At Fair Park - Dallas

The performance was wonderful! The children performing were awesome! They actually played the instruments they used. During the "Battle of the Bands" segment, the boy playing guitar emulated Chuck Berry's famous skip. He was amazing! But, the boy playing the keyboards (in my view) was the more outstanding performer. The way his mannerisms responded to the rhythm of the music was a terrific parody of a rock musician really into the sound both he and the band were playing. I heartily recommend the "School of Rock" to everyone!

    Okay

by AnonTexas on 8/28/18Music Hall At Fair Park - Dallas

I have been looking forward to seeing School of Rock for several months. After seeing it, I'm glad we got reduced price tickets. The kids were excellent, but the other actors didn't convince me. With the exception of "Stick it to the Man", the additional songs were boring, and we could not understand the words. (Part of that is due to the acoustics in the venue. The Fair Park Music Hall is a nice facility, but it does not have the acoustics of the newer concert halls.) Bottom line: skip the musical, rewatch the movie.

It was a good show but I was very disappointed in the use of foul language and the display of homosexuality.

We brought our 10 yo son for his first theatrical performance and he absolutely loved it. He was interested and engaged through the whole show. We left wanting to go back for more!
